Saw this at Telford, a well sorted std framed bike.
-
This caught my eye, a lot of work gone into it, would be wasted on me but nice.
-
We glanced at it and to be honest whilst water has been going under the bridge since it was first introduced it is an out dated bike. New monos are not my thing but it is out dated and probably was before the first was bolted together. So 40 are sold and they hope for 400 sales (of the same model) I take my hat off to them if they reach 100 in 5 years.
PS. I wonder if they looked at the Jotagas?? That is a new bike

There's a set of 35mm MZ forks for sale on front page.....

Judging by the money changing hands for frames and parts at Wrightys show there will be a few more about soon........
They were like kids in a sweet shop at one point on one stand..
-
Before my time Jon...... See you there, bring loads of money..
-
Original... will be black...

Determined to kill off an already dying breed at a time biking should be encouraged if the oil is running out. Sooner we are out of Europe the better, costs us millions a day for what?????

What is the general consensus re heat dissipation. I am building a B175 engine for trials, I am using a modified Fantic 200 cyl head which has a larger finned area etc, they can get hot during trials in the warm months and they are centre plug head. On the Fantic they were black, just wondering is it best to paint or get blasted to bare ally. ?? I will be painting the barrel and using a Suzuki TS185 piston. Thanks in advance....

Now that reminds me.......

Everyone has a point, I am with Jon on this. Golden Valley had around 100 riders on Sunday, numbers were down, some were at the Talmag. A good mix of Brits and T. shocks, a few eligible on monos.Their next trial is fully subscribed (March Hare road trial) They are busy as it stands so they don't need other classes to confuse things, although it's understandable why in other parts it's needed, maybe the numbers are down ??
At grass roots level which we are talking about the main thing will be keeping bums on seats and everyone happy, if silverware is introduced then you will get a few chasing it. Keep the silverware for the darts brigade surely.
As Jon has said before nothing seems broke down the South West so it don't need fixing.
Trials can be a cheap motor sport,

I bought mine already done. I believe it is fairly simple, a template needs to be made of the shape of a Bantam head, mark the Fantic head and cut it using a jigsaw with the correct blade. It will then need tidying as required with file or emery, and either painting or blasting. Not sure about the squish / combustion chamber. Also some work is req'd to make adapters so as the cylinder studs can be tightened. If you want dimensions or pics pm me. Fantic heads are about, around

Re the cooling, some are using a modified Fantic 200 head, I have one for my build. like this...
-
Hi Ref Todd heads fins are thicker than std heads and there were 2 castings made part number on underside of head...
GT 100 A for short reach plugs (1/2")
GT 100 B for long reach plugs (3/4")
The compression may be too high for trials use, you will need to run it to find out. They sell well on ebay if it's no use.
-
Hello Jon, I did the GV trial, asked a couple of people if you were there no one knew. I didn't think you were there until I saw results, you must have kept under the radar on that big thing..... some of the bangers were at the Talmag... May see you at Telford. (Get it spent)

Although this listing has ended this person advertises occasionally ...

Thanks for the replies. Removed the top end, no nasty surprises, no play in big end and doesn't look like any blow by on the piston so will check the piston/ rings / bore clearances and if all okay should get away with rings ?? Spoke to Alpha re the bearing conversions, it will make sense to do them given the age, it's a 63,same age as me...
Will shelve it for a while now I know it's not shot. There's a Bantam needs finishing first.
-
Here's a well sorted one, the riders not too bad either.....
-
I need to partly strip a 1963 Distributor C15 engine to check it over , it will be built as a std 250, as soft as possible . I am not up to speed on these only in gaining info in threads I have seen recently. Are there any weak areas to check, I am hoping to get away with top end strip for now , any thing else to check?/ It will be a long term project, just as long as the motor is sound. It kicks over with good compression, supposedly a runner a few years ago. Thanks in advance
-
Make the most of it B J, if Salmond gets his way you'll need to bring your passport in a few years.....
PS. The show is well worth a look.

The biggest problem with the up and coming generation is they don't know the difference between a pre unit / unit, side valve / ohv and even a phillips or flat head screw driver.(It's frightening) If they have parents who financed their bike whether it's a pre 65 / Britshock or what ever you want to call it then they may have half a chance of spannering it. Alternatively the latest pogo stick mono water cooled thing will be the best bet.
I am building a Bantam, most people I have had to approach for work that I can not do have either been retired semi retired or getting close. This is not coincidence it seems to be the norm. Where are the up and coming youngsters when it comes to the spannering etc??
Without them there is next to no future in the older bikes/ cars or w h y.
Thatcher killed manufacturing which led to the people having to earn a living doing other things and when they had kids they didn't have the skills/interest to pass on.
My father taught me how to get my bike going when it stopped, he was a painter and decorator but he knew what to do. Many of the bikes you have been talking about are already tucked up in sheds for one reason or another, even many later twinshocks. Things will only get worse when little Johnny grows up and he doesn't know one end of an engine from the other.......
ps watch this...

Sam do you remember roughly how many std Yam frames were altered? most bikes that come up for sale seem to be Goddens. Thanks.
