  1. They in the past have been non locals coming up for the trial early to get some illegal practice in. They were a complete nuisance in Glen Nevis last year. The locals know where you can practice
  2. The DC rack is excellent far better and quicker to load and safer than a trailer. I lift Bike on, then tie back wheel to rack post with rope, then as per turbofurball, next strap over the seat, tie it down, then second around the handlebars (on the side nearest the car). Takes less than a couple of minutes when you get used to it. Make sure you have decent heavy duty tie down straps, my biggest issue initially was finding decent straps as a lot of ratchet straps are not that good in my experience. I found excellent heavy weight straps in RAS Sport in Brighouse which were not that expensive.
  3. I have just done this on my sons new bike st2015, you do not need to take the exhaust off, only the fuel tank. on saying that it makes sense to take exhaust off at same time to check brake fluid level in rear reservoir and change rear brake pads if required at same time and repack exhaust ( again if read) Alternatively take to dealer
  4. Very sad, trials as we know it,only exists because of people like Michael. It has been a absolute pleasure knowing you. Rest in Peace and I am sure you will clean all the sections in the Sky for many years to come.
  5. I have got fed up with towing a 2/3 bike trailer and am planning selling it and buying a van. The van is to hold 2 trials bikes. i have a newish Fiat Doblo LWB in mind. i would welcome comments from owners of small vans , particularly Doblo owners, and smallest feasible engine size.
  6. Just about to try one tomorrow, I thought they were great starters have I been misinformed!
  7. Apico flex levers very happy with price, straight levers despite many falls and also increased ability to fine tune levers. The latter particularly on the clutch lever is particularly impressive. It was a hard choice initially but after speaking to Chris Pearson and looking at different types of levers, I settled for the Apico trials version sold by Splat Shop.
  8. Agree with comments in addition are you giving it enough throttle at outset.
  9. Excellent place treat yourself to a new bike. Then enter a trial a lot of excellent clubs such as Darwin, Rochdale, Horsforth, Bolton and many others run easy routes to get people into trials.
  10. Thanks on balance I will change them. They are a couple of years old and getting rounded on edges.
  11. How often do you change tyres and do you change them both at same time

    Test Rides

Telecat, Would Chris buy another Vertigo when he next changes his bike or does he fancy another make. Any word on the street if Vertigo are actually developing a 125 !
  13. I went with my son around 2 years ago. Excellent day out, first time I had been on a bike in at least 20 years and my son was just starting out.. I would quite like to go back, am waiting for a test day at same time so could try out a few bikes at same time.

    New Bike

What are they like to start, any known common faults. I am thinking of changing my sons gas gas later on this year when the new Reiger 125 comes out. Only downside of Gas Gas is sons finds it hard to start, nothing wrong with bike, just requires a bit more of a kick than other 125's we have tried. Any trial I have been at they seem to be at top end of results, may be just coincidence of course.
  15. Many thanks Oni & blocky I have put a bid in.
  16. Thanks for all the replies. It is a 2013 but has just one screw at top. If the 2011 ones were worse they must have been pretty bad. Arnoux the small piece of alloy bar is a good idea - I think a variation is glueing the top part on to stop it separating ( as I think the top part was originally glued on as gunge at top looked very like glue - originally owned by GG mechanic so maybe works mod) It has been large rocks that has caused the exhaust end cap to slacken off I believe. Son just needs to get better on large rock steps ! I think I will improvise with alloy bar at top or Glue and look to buy better quality if that does not work. many thanks
  17. The quality of the plastic end cap on gas gas exhausts is not the best. After breaking 2 end caps ( mounting tabs) in a short space of time, has anyone tried gluing the end cap in to avoid buying a new one or does a better quality replacement exist.
  18. Does the gas gas racing 125 you refer to have a Keihin Carb as opposed to a Dellorto. The reason is ask this is I fitted a Raga Reed valve and a Keihin Carb to my sons bike last week and it is fair to say it substantially increased mid and top end power to the extent the bike was transformed and did not feel like a 125. The downside however is I think we have lost some bottom end power compared to the previous set up with a Dellorto carb going from a 26mm to 28mm carb. Very interested accordingly on feedback on potentially fitting a fly wheel weight if that will result in materially increasing torque at bottom end. At end of day not complaining, as the bikes are pretty good in original format, and it is always a debate if perceived performance gains actually result in less dabs !
  19. Thanks everyone. It is very apparent that in the Yorkshire / Lancashire area we are currently spoil for choice, as quite easy to do a trial within an hours drive most weekends. Currently doing around 3 a month weather permitting. Cleanorbust - I spoke to a rider at a trial recently who did around 70 trials last year (which for me is too much) ) and was wondering what average rider did which prompted post. Oni nou - Keep going you give us all hope.
  20. Simple question how many trials do you ride each year, what level do you ride at, and how quickly ( if applicable) did it take to get to expert level
  21. I bought flexible levers recently to achieve better adjustment and control for small hands and very happy with them. They are widely available albeit they cost more than standard.
  22. I have X11 on my Sherco when I bought it & X lite on sons gas gas. Both good tyres but X11 very slightly cheaper, not sure why they have gone for this, it may be that X11 last longer is reason. What did you have before.
  23. What level are you riding at, I ask this as I am not convinced the difference between the tyres mentioned make that much material difference at the beginner / intermediate level assuming of course the tyre you have is not substantially worn. Reality is it is currently very slippy and good technique and body positioning is paramount. I have seen riders improve dramatically in mud by taking a few lessons Personally for the price minimum difference I would go for either Michellin X11 or X lite. Last Michellin X11 rear tyre I bought online last year was around £85 & £10 to fit, a front X11 was around £62 online so in total not very much difference for the price you have been quoted.
  24. Hi, My son is slightly older just 13 now, and started on a modern Beta 80 Evo 2012, to be honest it was forever requiring parts and accordingly was quite expensive to maintain as my local dealer did most of the work, due to limited time on my part. Starting, Clutch and Gear changing was ok. I may have been unlucky of course with the bike I bought as buying second hand is always a gamble ! He now has a modern Gas Gas 125, which is a superb bike in comparison and the build is far superior and also easy to work on. My conclusion on speaking to many people who have owned Beta 80's is the build on the smaller bikes is not a patch on the bigger bikes. However as your son is too young for a 125 ( if you are planning ACU events) and based on the fact you have very limited choice, and Beta 80 bikes are the most popular, if you are going to buy one I would buy a new bike, If I had my time again I would buy a new Beta 80 due to lack of choice in the market.. What your son needs is probably more focused training, followed by practice, practice & practice. Not sure where you are based if in the North of England. I can vouch for Inch Perfect my son ( and I) had a great day out with Matthew who could also sell you a bike Bumpy in West Yorkshire is also superb ( not sure if they have any Beta 80's ) although you have the added bonus of booking a lesson with very experienced instructors such as Roger or even Dan Thorpe who started on a TY 80 I beieive ( A former British Champion and one of the most successful riders in the UK). Best of luck.

    2017 gas gas

My son has a 2013 TXT 125, it is a dream to ride and very easy to do basic maintenance, on, as very well designed, only gripe is for a small youngster - it is a pain to start ( due to partial gear) which means in practice I have to start it if he gets stuck in a section. Compared to a modern Beta 80 he previously had, which was always needing parts, very happy overall. I was waiting to buy a new vertigo 125 however as they did not materialise last year, I am looking else where, as I suspect it will not materialise, and may well buy a Sherco,, Scorpa or even TRS when I change it this year, although clearly if the 2018 Gas Gas is easier to start it will be a contender.
