  1. I met Bert when competing at a longtrack at Seymour near melbourne in 1973. I was riding a works Hagon shortstroke JAP for the Pommie team against the Aussies. Phil Crump , (Jasons dad) was riding a ridiculously fast 360 Bandido engined Hagon that Bert had worked his magic on. Very hard thing for Phil to ride but he gave us all a pretty hard time considering how inflexible a big two stroke is compaired to a very good JAP on methanol. I believe this machine of Berts also held the Australian motorcycle land speed record at this time at over 150 mph. amazing for an air cooled single cylinder two stroke. RIP Bert.from as I was known Super Pom.
  2. give me a ring on 01296712510 and I will send you a weld on one to fit the small Acerbis type cap for a small donation to Alexz's funds
  3. Probably an air leak in the exaust joints, check nuts on cylinder head to exaust flange and joint to silencer. Gaskets at said joints may need replacing. The main symptom of exaust air leaks is a popping or backfire when snapping throttle shut. Check these joints first before getting too involved.
  4. No real successful way with polyethylene dont bother, perforated stickers just about work.
  5. Nick, I wouldnt have any problem with the boys trying the bike its nothing to do with me. I have always loved other people trying our bikes, it makes them p****d off with what they are on. But seriously thanks for arranging last weekends trip, but no results published. Alexz has won the last 2 weeks, perhaps us southern poofs should live closer to Morcambe.
  6. Jaan. You need to cotact your fellow countryman Vesty Uk he stocks a set of clamps with secondary bolts in a slot that fit the holes on Montesa yokes for modern fatbars, I've got them on one of my old bikes,no problem. They are anodised light gold and I think are Apico brand. I think when they came they had a half round bottom section which I had to machine off, If you email me I will send you a photo.

  10. Well, Did yiu sort it out?
  11. Before you get too involved check these 4 items first. 1 Check the tank breather. 2 Check the rubber flap under the tank has not flipped up and covered the air intake to the airbox . You may need to punch a hole in it and cable tie it down to the engine stay.3 Try a new plug cap the black ones are known to give touble, try the red rubber ngk item.Check the fuel flow from the petrol tap.4 Check cdi earth wire ( they are a bit short) has not pulled back its pin in the terminal block and is thus making a poor connection.
  12. On 99percent of all Hondas,t is top dead centre, f is static firing point, and two close together lines are full advance marks. On all four strokes the cam moves at half crankshaft speed. So you will have a(t mark )at tdc compression and 360 degrees later you will have a (t) at tdc valve overlap. You must set tappets at tdc compression . ie. valves closed. By your questions I dont think you have enough knowledge to be messing. Have a chat with me at Berko next week.
  13. Alexz just rang me , All Brit Junior top 3 , 1 Alexz 2 Ross 3 Sam. Well done guys!
  14. moment88, Yes youve got the gist of the ty80 design exactly. As for the "freedom " lubricator, they wre first made under that name in the USA and what are around now are Chinese copies of the American design. That is what I think you have. I first bought one in1972 whilst on a racing tour in Australia and without one would feel lost. There is a more refined design that I've seeh in the last few months that fits two cable outer sizes. See Yah Bigwig
  15. I'm afraid Max's answer is not correct. First completely slacken both in line and lever cable adjustments, Then slacken locknut and turn philips screw in or out until internal lever is in line with the axle line of the bike. then tighten locknut and adjust the cable. This then makes the arm work through the 90 degees to the cable getting the lightest possible clutch from the standard set up .Personally I also lenghthen the clutch arm by about half an inch and weld on another cable stop hole boss about half an inch towards the rear of the case. But always set clutch arm as previously stated, Good idea to use a freedom type cable lubricator as well. This makes it much better for those little hands. The reason the standard cable has two adjustment facilities is to be to always get the arm working at the right angle to the cable. Hard to explain but hope you understand.

  18. Sorry to hear of your unfortunate accident, but this was bound to happen if you kept attempting those enormous splats that your dad and I are capable of. We told you a our level was out of reach and you just didn't listen. Seriously,Alex. hope you get well soon and it won't be long before you are back on the bike. Wiggies.
  19. Ell, Mr. 4ourtea,whoever you are,I think you need informing of a few basic facts. 1 John Shirt supports many young hopfull riders and also the TC website through his business and would not be the successfull businessman he is without his undying passion for the sport. Perhaps you would love to gloat if his company went under through lack of effort,in a difficult market. 2 Jnr. is always more than fair in his comments about rival riders and importers. i.e. Recent references to Dougie, Graham, and Rhoda's kind words to Steve Colley at Skyrakes. In fact he is sometimes critical of his own team riders if they don't come up to scratch. Constructive critisism but as always meant from the heart and straight talking like he always is. 3 In regard to the pro, John never shyed away from full back up ,now and in it's early days and maybe it was a year or so too soon for the general public but JST and GG factory were put under great pressure to have a revolutionary new bike with such brilliant design and weightsaving, unlike nearly all the opposition plugging away with the same old bikes with new stickers every year. "We want one like Adam's. 4 I really can't understand the stupid anti GG attitude that some ignorant people seem to revel in and I can only comment on my own and Alexz's experience with the product. Fact. Alexz has riden GG machines for 9 seasons and only once failed to complete an event this being in 1999 when the main bearings seized on a pre Pro model BEARING FAILIURE. Fact. One trial at Hawkesnest we had a misfire due to a lose earth wire.MY FAULT. Fact 2005 Southern experts we had the bike stopping on full noise, overtightening the Keihin drain nut had knocked a bit of metal off the inside of the carb intermittantly getting sucked into the mainjet.MY FAULT. Fact, The 125 at this years UK World Round the fuel breather stuck on section 4 first lap. This was not a genuine GG part but an alloy aftermarket part a couple of years old. MY FAULT? Fact At the BTC round at Skyrakes the other day the extra flywheel retaining nut came undone and wiped out the lighting coil wires and we fixed up the flywheel and decided to carry on topping the coolant up at every section due to shortage of time, Alexz finished in third place. I didnt locktite it. MY FAULT Apart from these problems mainly my mistakes ( nobody's perfect ) we have had 1 gearbox re-build and welded up the exaust brackets quite a few times. Fact Our bikes have always come out of the box and have only been prepared by a boring old fart in a shed in Winslow with technical help from Jonh Jnr. and Factory Kev at GG UK. i.e. not factory specials. Fact. These have been our only problems in well over 500 events, plus practise days. IF any of you subscribe to Mr. 4ourtea's opinions you all must be as stupid as him. Alexz's results over the last 9 years could not have been such a great success without such a Brilliant, Lightweight, innovative and totally reliable machine as THE GREAT GAS GAS PRO AND JOHN SHIRTS JNR & SNR. NUFF SAID. Bigwig AKA Julian.
  20. Yes I did wash a very dirty 125 this morning whilst Alexz was out running his usual 40 minute loop. Alexz was 17 on 11-11 06 and passed his full motorcycle test last Wednesday (luckily a day before the snow came ) with Big Dave from Guildford. Funnily enough one of his marked down minor errors was for balance!! Bike used was 06 125 Gas Gas pro racing now with black frame, the machine used for all major competitions last year and still on all original engine components except for one set of piston rings. Going up to Buxton to pick up our new bike tomorrow.
  21. When will you guys realise that there is no championship to run with as little air filter oil as possible.Dirt is the only real enemy of the modern engine. Any dirt entering the engine will cause rapid wear leading to loss of perfomance. Oil properly and set up carb to suit and you will have no problems. Our 125 Gassers have been run with plenty of filter oil and during 06 being revved to the limit have suffered no engine wear, not even needed piston rings and the machining marks are still on the pistons after many hours of hard work. We dont go beyond 60:1 on oil either. Engines need proper lubrication!!!
  22. Changing the rules for all events would be crazy as this would be very difficult to get observers as people have pointed out. But, i thought this topic was about the rules for the BTC. The riders that compete in the BTC are the only British riders that would compete in the World and European Championships.
  23. I feel so strongly about this topic that i've pinched my Dads pseudonym... haha. I think that this decicion could possibly effect the futures of the up and coming riders. I personally feel that it would be ridiculous to change the rules for the British Championship back to the TSR22A as it would benefit the riders in no way. I can't see that there was a problem last year with the curent FIM rulings when used in the BTC. If anything, it has benefitted, both the riders and observers. A lot of confusion and disagreements have disappeared. No more argueing whether the rider stopped forward motion or not. I have ridden in trials where the rulings used to vary from section to section. One section would be no problem with having to ride on the move... the next section could be impossible to ride without stopping! If the ACU really want the next generation to hold its own on the world stage then surely they need to do everything that they can to help. This means keeping the British Championship rules in line with the FIM world championship and the rest of the world! Tell me another country that has the confusion we do? Yours in Sport, Alexz

    Ty350

Misui did not import the TY350 into the Uk but they were available both in the USA and Australia. I did go into the differences on an Aussie trip in 1986 and as far as I can remember the only differences were head, barrel and piston. Carb and even jetting was the same as 250. Yamaha must have thought it too powerfull for us Brits.
  25. I've got a DT tool with a removable needle that came in a road type kit for use with red rubber type sealing wedges. The handle has a screw on end cap and you simply remove the needle and pop it inside the handle. More compact and 100% safe. The wedge type inserts are useless but the tool is correct for DT's. Problem solved.
