  1. If you like older bikes then Classic Dirt Bike has a reasonable amount of Trials bikes in each issue, try here
  2. So basically you can paddle through a complete section without your engine running for a 3, but if you get stuck on a rock and stall, its a 5. I cant start my engine in a section, thanks to Sammy Miller footrests I have to lift one of them to allow the kickstart to swing all the way, and i cant do that while trying to balance. A simple sheet explaining the basics given to an observer would be enough if you start forcing them to read rule books you'll end up with less people wanting to do it. I overheard this at a recent Trial, An elderly lady was going to observe, her husband was riding in the vetran class, when he was asked which section would be best for her he replied "she'll do this section here (section 1 nearest the car park) she cant walk up there she has trouble seeing where shes going" yes its true.
  3. Thanks Andy, I'll have a play with that idea. What set up have you got on yours? And what front brake shoes are you using? And where did you get them from? Braking is another problem im having.
  4. Hamilton is good, very good and one day he might be seen in the same light as Fangio, Senna or Schumacher. As for were he is now and how everyone is raving about a rookie doing this and that, Jacques Villeneuve did it all before (pole and led most of his 1st race, finished 2nd), and went into the last race still with a chance of winning the title. Yes it good to see some English sucess in F1, (the phrase 'British' is only used if the person is Scottish, Welsh or Irish have you noticed that Button and Hamilton are English but Coulthard is British) its a pity that he seems to have had so much help from the governing body and got away with so much. His car is illegal and has been banned from the championship, how can you win the title in an illegal car? Ive been watching F1 25yrs and never seen anyone behave like that behind a safety car, at one point he was almost level with it (the rules state 5 car lengths behind) as for the constant brake testing when the car had gone in thats another big no no, I could imagine the reaction if Schumacher had done that. Another thing, when Kubica and Hamilton collided and both spun harmlessly in Fuji and both rejoined and carried on, Kubica was given a drive through penalty! When Barrichello did the same to Davidson in Shanghai, it ruined Davidsons race as his car was damaged and he was forced to retire, Barrichello recieved no punishment!!! Gues you only get punished if you interfere with Hamilton. If he wins this year its going to be a tainted title, its a pity because he's good enough to win it without outside help. The idea of putting modern drivers in 600hp cars with drum brakes (like old Mercs or Auto Unions) is great, i would pay to watch that, then afterwards we can go and watch a round of the world indoor Trials championship with everyone riding TY175's!!!!
  5. Ive got a TY175, 13.5 inch Betor shocks, Samy Miller footrests, I noticed someone had posted that the TY shakes its head if it see's rock with the Sammy miller footrests fitted, I tried mine yesterday and riding up a stream/rock section was a nightmare, the front end was all over the place, if i had a steering damper handy I would have fitted it. Front forks are standard, with a heavy oil in them, 15mm above the top yoke, the Betors are on the softest setting, I weigh about 12.5st, has anyone got any ideas on how I can improve the front end, without buying Ty250 forks?
  6. The first Italian 4 stroke win since the days of MV Agusta, excellent result. This could just be the victory that changes Moto GP and shows everyone else that the Japanese bikes can be beat. This can only be great for the sport. Well done Casey, but well done and thank you Ducati.
  7. I just cant figure out what you were searching for, and why, when you came across this
  8. As a person who hasnt competed in many Trials I was wondering why there never seem to be any sections whe you ride down a river/stream/beck it always seems to be up against the water flow, is there a reason for this? I have tried it when practising and it does seem a bit more tricky. Just curious as to why.
  9. As far as twinshocks go Yamaha have the most spares available, there isnt much you cant get for a TY and not at silly prices either.

    Ty80 Runs Odd

Yes its a nightmare, I solved the problem of doing that on my TY175 by buying a spare flywheel and taking an angle grinder to it so with the spare flywheel on theres a huge gap (1/2 the flywheel missing) which allows me to adjust the points without any problems.
  11. Now thats a great idea, that would put an end to the stop/no stop argument get everybody back on drum brakes and make the sections to suit. Given that most advances start in F1 work there way on GP bikes then many years later filter down to Trials, it wouldnt surprise me to see traction control on trials bikes in the next 20yrs or so. If trials does go the 4T way expect to see plenty of various ways of opening and closing the valves come in over the next 10yrs. The idea of being able to Bluetooth engine maps is great, imagine the fun you could have in the que for a section changing peoples settings, lol.

    Ty80 Runs Odd

You havent mentioned the air filter? I just bought a TY80 that was running a bit odd, the air filter foam just crumbled away in my hands when i opened the air box, new filter and its going great.
  13. How does that work, can someone explain? Is this if you are running a trial or does it include practise as well. Just buy the land, get 2 sheep and if anyone asks your using the trials bike to round them up, most farmers use quads these days so its not much different. As for building obsticles dry stone walled sheep pens can make a challenging section, or a pile of logs shaped like a beaver dam , just be very discreet and if possible to to make obsticles look like they belong there, a trench filled with rocks would over time look like a real stream more so if you lined the bottom with polythene to hold water, a fallen tree would also be good, plenty of posibilities without bringing much attention to yourself.
  14. Excellent stuff, thoses measurements are they inches or mm?
  15. The thing is if enough people want it then it will happen, F1 or Trials if either ended up with 3 people in a van towing a trailer round the uk or Europe to compete then some people would do that. F1 managed before without the big companies supplying engines, a quick rule change to say engines should be 3LT V8's and theres plenty of them available, and just remember there will always be the TV money for F1, on a worldwide scale only the olympics and the world cup attract more viewers. Plus there are enough people with the money to run there own team and to do it just for fun. Its only since the big money and sponsors came in that stopped that. Look at it another way in the 50's nearly every motorsport was in a very healthy state, big entrys and good competition, and no or very little sponsorship. In Bike GP's anyone could buy a Manx Norton and be competetive against the works MV's. Another comparison you could make, yes theres only 22 drivers in F1 but theres another 50 (probably more) that could quite easily jump in a F1car and be competetive, are there another 50 riders that given the chance could compete and even beat Bou?
  16. Not really, costs would come down hugely. High paid drivers and big motorhomes would go but it would carry on. Dont forget F1 has Honda, Renault, BMW, Mercedes, Toyota and Fiat (Ferrari), they are a few companies that arent exactly short of money. Im sure if they wanted either of them could buy Gas Gas, Sherco & Beta without worrying about what it would cost. It wasnt that long ago (early 80's) you could run a F1 team on 5million a year, it would just go back to that.
  17. And theres 22 in F1 (24 next year) And the Spyker team normaly come last.
  18. Forget F1, you just cant compare it. Look at Karting instead, thats probably more of a direct comparison. You can start at 8yrs old, can be competetive for about
  19. Every sport at some time has its 15minutes of fame on TV, remember bunjee jumping, you couldnt turn an extreme channel on without that being on. We had our day with kickstart, simple stuff good to watch and most people over a certain age will know what you do straight away when you mention kickstart. And unless coverage is on one of the 4 main channels it defeats the object as most people wont see it As for sponsorship forget it unless you are at the very top, or you spend plenty of money on part then you might get some form of sponsorship but that wont be much more than 10% of your parts. The people that cover there vans in stickers (pretend profesionals I think someone posted) I think its great if nothing else it is noticed by the general public and any outside interest cant be
  20. Oh yes the world champion wouldnt be fit enough to do the SSDT, chances are he would probably clean it.
  21. Thats a great idea, Jarvis starts on 185pts, I start on 1pt then on Monday I can go to work and tell everyone that Jarvis only just beat me by 3pts
  22. It must be really bad where you come from if your looking forward to the night life in Broughton!!!

Does it count as a dab if your stabliser touches down? Incase your wondering its a Gas Gas xispa 25
  24. From the ACU website: D Class Wheel & Capacity sizes a)Small wheel Class - Max 50cc Mono or 80cc Twinshock ( fitted as original equipment) Wheel size - Max 16" Front 14" Rear b)Medium Wheel Class - Max 50cc Mono or 80cc Twinshock ( fitted as original equipment) Wheel size - Max 19" Front 17" Rear Thats the ACU regs for the D class, im fairly sure most companys do a bike that fits into those groups Beta REV3 or REV 50, Sherco 0.5, Gas Gas TXT Boy 50 Ok the TY is getting an engine size advantage but the modern bikes are lighter, the TY weighs 54kg (Haynes manual) the Gas Gas TXT Boy50 weighs 42kg, thats a huge difference for a 7-9yr old kid
