Finding grip & longer swingarms
Just to confuse even more, surely standing on the footpegs on the balls of your feet,(Rather than the instep) will transfer your body weight further back to obtain better grip in a poor traction situation.I know this is tiring, but for a short time in a section might help. Now I know I've stirred it up.

HT5 Engine settings ?
Sounds good,I'll get a Morgo pump on order, should arrive before the mag does. The mag sprocket puller i bought works a treat so it will be easy to fiddle around with the timing - cant wait to get riding it.(If and when the place thaws out a bit.)

HT5 Engine settings ?
Well the magneto went off yesterday to be rebuilt,so now I can spend a bit of time sorting other bits and pieces out.All I want to know is what the modern take on tappet clearances and ignition timing. I dont have a shop manual for it,but Don Moreley sugggests using wider than the factory 6thou in/8thou ex.From memory the igntion should be set at 1/2" BTDC at full advance. So does anyone have any suggestions for modern day use ? Its still running a monobloc which works very well, other than that I can only assume its pretty much standard. One last question, the oil pump plunger diameters look like they are Ariel rather than the Triumph ones that get used.If I upgrade it do I go for a standard Triumph one or one of the Morgo type ones ?

Fabulous trials parts delivery service.
BVM have been like that since I started using them in about 1985.Some companies just seem to be able to do it right - like Viking Direct for stationary and Ashcroft transmissions for Land Rover gearboxes. It makes life/business alot more bearable when you can use dependable suppliers......

TY 175 Piston Confusion
Keep an eye on our website; http://www.bcmcc.org/ All the 2011 dates and venues will be posted on there as soon as I can get them booked up.There are a couple of venues booked, but I'm struggling a bit to book some of the others as there is quite alot of pressure from other clubs and other uses. Our next trial is on 5th Dec,if you'd like to come along. As for practice land at the moment I dont have any answers, but you are not the first to ask and there are several ideas to be worked through. Andy - if you read this I still cant get logged onto the events calender,it says its logging me in,then chucks it straight back to the login page.

Glad your TY is sorted. Were you number 54 at our last trial at Lansdown ?

TY250 Twinshock tanks
Two of mine are alloy - they are 1977 models I think, the other one I wobble around on has a Miller tank/seat unit.Wasnt it just the 80,125 and 175 that had steel tanks ? My kids 80 is steel and the 175 tank off my ty/xt project was steel.

Saracen production
Thats a good point, trouble is trials riders dont seem to rush to spend cash - except in the pub ! Unlike other sports where people "Must have" the latest whatever.I keep looking at Craig Mawlems frame kits, but have yet to stump up the cash....

Saracen production
That would be good to see.It is still going on here in the UK,there are a few low volume builders around.Close to me I think Jon Bliss is still building his Cotswold bikes for various engines inc the China built Honda copies. I guess the world financial problems must make people cautious when contemplating a new venture.

its going to a new home, the green machine
Well i have to say you missed out,it was a cracking trial, very sensibly marked out considering how wet the week was.We only did 3 laps of 10 but it was a good afternoon out as Somerton Classic's are.

Shame to sell any bike really.... You riding at the lair tomorrow ?

Tell me about the TY175
I dont normally question or argue with others posts - but that is just rubbish, there is nothing at all wrong with a bog standard TY175.Granted they are easy to improve upon, but if its in good order its only the skill of the rider that is the limiting factor.I think Mick Andrews and Yamaha did rather well for the time, cosidering how many are still working hard and being enjoyed.

Interesting comment about getting a 350 or 500 for the same price.Reason for saying this is that most people seem to go to alot of effort calming the 500 down - maybe they would have been better off with the 350 ?- Dougie's Beta failure
Good to see that the forum is being watched by people who are decent enough to give a measured response - there cant be anything much worse than trials riders for colourful gossip.- Yamaha TY250 lighting coil
A Yamaha xt225 Serow would fit the bill perfectly, nice and quiet, totally reliable and cheap.Decent fuel range, low seat and soft motor - the list goes on.- Yamaha TY250 lighting coil
Another suggestion is the Beta Alp or Gas Gas Pampera, locally they do very well in the trail bike class but have a decent seat and lights etc.- important oil consumption with RTLS 87'
Back when they were new it was a common trick to use a TLR barrel on an RTL engine - the only difference was the colour they were painted.Dont know about the piston tho,I had both bikes back then but I only had to rebuild the TLR engine.Big disappointment, the engine only did 22 closed to club trials - ran on Silkolene pro4 changed every other trial. The whole top end wore out....- Majesty on e bay. Is it or isnt it ?
Whats worse to me than the trail bike thing is when you meet people who say "Oh,you do motocross" when you say you do trials. No matter how many times I rant on about it friends still ask if I'm "racing" this weekend.- Majesty on e bay. Is it or isnt it ?
That looks more like it.- Majesty on e bay. Is it or isnt it ?
Just had another look, saw it earlier this evening and it sort of rang bells then.I'd say its not a proper one, main reason being there is so much space between the cyl head and the top tube/tank.All the real ones I've seen are quite tight just there.... - Ariel HT3
