Even a Beta is no submarine! I never run the bike after washing till the filter is removed and inspected. You can induce more water and dirt into the motor that way than it would ever get in a trial.
-
Actually, I am starting to count the blessings, cause if Zippy ever "won" we would never hear the end of it!
-
Carlos pulling away, and Glenn right behind Donna! Oh well, not a bad place to be!
-
So Jon, what was up with the bike? Was it like running rich and such(crappy) after it warmed up??
He ususally puts the V-Force block in the bike, so I am unsure, and never had that on the stockers or the Boyesens?
-
Now I am lost again! So why is Zippys bike not eledgeable in the 78 and newer twinshock class for series points??
-
Mine always gave me a rich mix downhill, would occasionally die out if I did not crack the throttle to keep it cleaned out. Always had to shut off the petcock if parked downhill or it would flood.
Not unlike Neo, one might be surprised what one may find in these things upon careful inspection. Moisture, venting(tank and carb) and inline filters are all important and often overlooked.
Lets not overlook PROPER and thorough cleaning practices where there are particuler problems, such as removing jets and screws, passing things through them and all the little orfaces, as well as using compressed air to blow thing out!
Trust me, I have done plenty of quickie cleans with a bit of carby spray, but sometimes it just does not do the job. It is just a blow and go!
Tip of the day, occasional floaty idles (lean condition) and loss of power are usually moisture induced.
So Clav, how did you twist a crank?
Only one I have ever seen sounded just like piston slap, but it was not!
-
Donna Fox, Carlos Casas and Glenn Quinn running a tight race!
Careful matey, that girl may kick your butt!
-
I would not expect a lot of difference between the two, but the 250 is the fave for a normal clubman rider. Sweet!
-
So Clav, I am still a bit unsure about how it is with the dellorto back on, as in the first post you seemed to state that it ran well, yet in the second you referred to the pinging.
All I can tell you is I never fixed mine(dellorto) by messing with the needle.
I think fuel has a lot to do, yet not all.
I had to up the pilot to what I had previously considered unrealistic(example, 33 to 38) to get it in range with smoother and better power and little to no pinging. I think there is a logical theory behind all this, but it seems some even varies with the carb itself.
You can run the main down to 112-115 range if you want it to clean out and rev clean to the moon.
Try it!
-
I hate to hear that, maybe if you tear the other one I can kick your ass!
If those opiates take their toll, I'll get the Viagra samples sent out before the wedding!
Uh,,,,, keep the bike, may be the last one you get for a while!
Edit: fixed Copey's quotes...again

Oh, I know, yet I am not just complaining about rain, it was severe! At the airport, there were planes displaced(thankfully nothing major), hangar doors blown off, and even the fuel sign blown totally off its base. It was nasty! Power went out for hours!
At home was another deal, trees down inthe neighborhood, pool was flooded with debri and I had much cleanup to do as well as fixing some other issues. Just too much!
Good news is I did get the wifey to stay in and clean the house!
-
So is the bike actually low on coolant, or do you just get water from other sources?
-
Good luck with that. You may have to partition it into something it will find!
-
(I know what you're thinking Cope)
Yea, try a 36 or 38 pilot, put the needle back in the 3'rd groove and ride it!
I will restate my opinion, the Kiehins can be a better mixer and higher performer, yet a pain in the butt that most do not want or need!
-
My feeble mind being what it is, if you found something in there that was near 20mm, then it is correct. If it was at 19.5 to begin with! So dont screw with it anymore ! Point being, that .5mm makes no real difference when that fuel is sloshing about in there!
My take on the SPS system is bacically that it helps prevent large changes in the flow with large changes in the manifold pressure, which create a disturbance(and momentary lean condition). In theory, this arrangement is more natural and progressive than an accelerator pump.
Seems to work, what can I say.
If you look back through the posts, you should find a proper illustration on the layout, which you should copy to insure you are comfortable with the disassembly and cleaning procedures and reassembly.
Cheers,
-
What did you break now Ron?
I had planned upon coming up Sunday, untill it p****d rain on me all day Sat and I could not even manage to get the truck loaded! So I basically copped an attitude, saved the trip money, and worked at home untill I went to work at the airport!

If you really want to learn it, put a kickr rock a couple feet out to help your rear get some height.
The front never touches it mind you, lift the front, punch the rock, pop the clutch and let the kicker help the rear up!
iF DONE CORRECTLY, YOU CAN GET THE REAR HIGHER THAN THE FRONT AND DO A "NOSIE " OFF THE ROCK!
Try that Tombo!
-
Similar, yes!
Cody needs to relax a bit, too rigid!
Pat has learned these lessons! He could go up another 5 ft from there!
-
Slalom, can you chime in on this, as I am not totally sure what all this means in the big picture with AHRMA's other primary interists.
Are they DONE, as well without AMA support? Or do the roadrace and MX guys continue under their own scheme(and in some cases endless money)?
From what I have read and my impression, AMA is not and has no intention of being in the business of organising events or series. This will be up to the clubs, such as ITSA and its splinter groups such as the vintage portion of the TI group. Is this basically correct?
ITSA rules, club events, AMA series points and insurance(yes, AMA still want's their cut).
Thoughts?
-
Is that Heath on the easy line?
-
Neo, although some operate in such dry conditions, most are not that fortunate.
Your basic setup though, reminds me if the Mikuni fix on the Beta's for the p***ing and venting which did seem to work.
They were just both run "up" then "T" together with a down curve that just exited near the top rear of the motor.
Just a thought!
On the 24mm topic, you know, for whatever reason, my 125 was never picky with the dellorto, it just ran. I think with half the displacement, they are just half as finiky!
-
There you go then!
(giving poor, cheap, free advise is difficult when you don't have one to look at and your memory is shorter than your ''''''''''')!
-
Day one results for the $5000.00 purse!
Patrick Smage 9
Cody Webb 21
Josiah Mizell 92
David Mizell 111
I thought we would see Ronnie Commo, and Kieth Wineland, yet no. Those Mizell kids will be proud to earn their share of the pot.
-
Awesome find! those were the good old days
-
Well, I don't know what all this will mean for the other AHRMA guys in roadrace or MX or whatever, but at least at this point if the real trials guys can take up the slack, trials may be better off. Time will tell.
I still think the Club, State, Regional, and(now) National series get more folks off their duffs than anything. New blood is a big question?
