  2. I think that is a fair statement. The Beta is a fine bike, I do not know if the (what I understand) $1200.00 price tag on a 300 kit is worth it of not? The mellow 250 will perform! Ray Peters has this thing that he calls a "skill cheat"! As an ex-pro, he has a LOT of skill! Fact is he could probably do the same damage on a good 125! But i see he is having a play with the 300 now as well! Power, Torque and Quickness all vary, fact is, the total similarity between the 125's and the 4'T's just struck me! YOU MUST REV THEM FIRST for most big stuff! How big? That would be up to you! The WTC youth are the prime example! It is all mind over matter! And if you don't mind, it don't matter! That 250 will propel you just fine!
  3. John, it is all about Bacon and Eggs in the nationals! The Chicken was a good participant, the Pig was committed! Top riders in their class find their way, a very tough group, and fairly so!
  4. Getting back on topic, you see many riders ARE overpowered to begin with, and happy mediums are somewhat few and far between. The 250 2T's are sweet, yet nobody buys them much over here? The Beta, Gasser, Sherco and Scorpa are all smooth and powerful 2T's in the 250 range. Only Beta builds a full 200, while there is a 225 kit now for the Gasser 125/200, all good stuff. I must state that the 4T Beta, first impression matched the second, great, and reminded me much of my old XR200 Honda. Smooth and tractable, has some GUTS! The Sherco is smooth too, yet much more on tap! It has GONADS! Seems the Scorpa 250 4T is sweet too, but large in frame! A good rider can flick them in no time! The Honda, well it is still the standard pig to which others are compared. Good bike! All said, currently the Sherco is the only one at expert/pro level out of the box! The telling tale for me was after an exhausting trial on a hot 90f day. I said to my buddy, can I take a spin on the mont? Sure! After coming off a few big drops, well the weight took its final toll on me! Guess you really need to be in better shape to fling about a few more kilos! I was just ready for a beer! Cannot get that difference out of my mind! Just too much! Were talking 10-12 lbs here up top too! I suppose you get used to things, ride what you brung is my motto! If there was a perfect bike, everyone would have one!
  5. NO sorry! They simply cost more that a 2T! Fact is they typically produce less power per volume than a 2T and weigh more, which is why you see 300 kits for the Beta, a 320 Sherco and soon a 350 Gasser and if you can find a Mont? Mitani can fix you for a price? I'm just not into 10,000 dollar rock bashers! Sorry to hear about your brother.
  6. All them 4T's ! Damed things are like Black Girls, and cost too much! You see, if most were not overpowering themselves to begin with on the 2T's, we would not be here! Alas, we have happy people on less powerful bikes that weigh more! It is a cunnundrum?

    Sherco 125 02

    You see, Zippers nuts are a bit looser than some, but he is basically correct as there is some clearance there that may be noticed when stationary. Do be sure to inspect the retaining bolts on both front and rear discs though, and be sure they have some locktight(blue) thread sealer on them. Keep snug, yet do not overtorque these small bolts. The 80:1 ratio is widely accepted, using good synthetic oil. As an easy out, you may run the Yamalube 2R semi-synthetic which seems redily available from Yamaha in a pinch. 80:1 = 62.5ml per 5L as i figure, check that quick figure, as I am still having a metrically challenging hangover! Ha! Unless the rear pucks are saturated with oil or something they may well come back to life. The biggest difference from the later bikes is the dual pot front caliper as compared to the newer quad. The dual still works, and I would clean it as well, the same way! After the things dry, you may see an immense change in performance, and if they start making noise, this can be even better! Then they are working!

  10. Aye Atom, I had two discreet pleasures this week! First was a spin in thr SRT Challenger! It was a BLACK one! And all I can say is this is one HOT car, even standing still! Forget the specs, this thing is a REAL throbber and top notch finish, nothing like it! I would wait for the standard RT hemi as a driver, myself! The other was an AUDI A6 twin turbo POS! The owner was a friend of a friend begging for help on this 50K mile, out of warranty oil puking pig! You cannot begin to work on it, it is done! The dealer wants 10k to redo the motor as it has blown every seal out! Made me think of you, I hope you leased yours! They are a mechanical nightmare!

And progressing! We may just have a future TDN rider here! Dad is a trialsnut too! We could even see the teacher become the student before long! Keep up the hard work, Ariel!
  12. I have this nice little tool that goes in, expands, then pops out the bearing with a slide hammer. It is really made for extracting pilot bearings from crankshafts when doing clutch jobs on cars. Same principal. As things go and I lube my bearings properly, never needed it on the bike! Oh well! Like Jon, usually I have to pull out the tools for others bikes, so it is there at work on standby, cause you will never have when you need it, and if you do, you won't!

You see Dabster, since Wayne is retired, I have tried to help fill the void over the years, and as I am unemployable, I can tell honda riders to p*** off while still enjoying the same payment that I would have recieved if I had not tried to help this clan of good Sherco owners that do not switch like a cheap whore every time the sponsor changes! Have you considered a Beta? Just taking a bit here

  18. Steve, I have seen that video sometime back. It is quite good, and I think the timeframe makes it even better. Can you still do it? Get your mind out of the gutter Bilco! Another note on the TTC site is young master Andrew Blane. He has been training hard and shows some really good skills if you scroll down the page a bit. I think he may just be about ready to jump into the pro lines for real next year. Yhat is unless he has to return to the Saffers! He's a good kid! If long wheelies and nosies worked in a trial, I could be good!
  19. As per Dabsters statement, a Sherco does still feel like a Sherco, no doubt, yet better and more responsive. The decreased lock is both a blessing and a curse, I think, as it has prevented me "tucking under" and spitting myself off on the head many times as compared to some other bikes. The downside is that you really need to be able to move the rear wheel in some tight situations. Seem all a tradeoff really. Not to mention the extra baggage of the Mont on a long hard trial. There is a difference to my small frame! All tit for tat it seems to me, yet for pure B*****ks, the Sherco is still king I think! This new gasser could change that, but I doubt by much?
  20. Based upon what I see there you are going great! Although I am old and slow myself now, I can tell you a few things from observation and spending time with folks like Ryan Young. To get height out of your zaps pretty much requires a full compression as you bring your body foreward and a fully committed rev and pop as you jump up to unload and try to keep up with the bike! Things happen really fast on a full POP at revs and takes some getting used to as well as working out the timing thing, it is just hard to commit to! But the good riders have a good POP and unload that gets them across near anything! Look at that video of Bou! Total commitmant! When he POPS! Jump the body and the bike will follow! The other thought is in moving your front wheel. Yes you can do it, but can you do long progressive 360 circles at a slow comfortable pace, then your foaters and fliks, get them down. Watch the clips on the TTC site AGAIN of Ryan on the floaters. Can you perfect the floater at 90? Off a tree at 180? Two trees at 90 each? Three? He can! And near every time! Did you know that if you use Kerosene, you can re-use it as charcoal starter fluid in the summer anytime you feel like BBQ'ing a GasGas!
  22. Good deal Jay! Gee, you were rude? I thought I was the only one that did that? Thanks for the measure! You see the ideal stator plate that you could swing 1mm per 1 deg. of timing change would be 114.5949387 mm in diameter which would yield a 360 degree (1:1) circumfrence ratio! As the Ducati and Leonelli units are only 110mm in diameter, this yields a basic relationship of 0.96:1 !!!!! Very close to my original theory that 1mm of swing on the plate = 1 deg. change of timing. This info is good, and does back my theory, yet all relative as I still set mine by seat of pants off the standard factory mark and it takes at least a 2-3 mm swing to really tell a difference even for an experienced rider. Seems the factory has been all over the board depending on year anyway. I think it was the '02 that came the most advanced at 3mm BTC of something based on piston height. The only other measurements I have taken was years ago on the '01 bike which seemed to sour when set below 1.75mm BTC by the piston height method. Cheers, MC

Zipper, at least use mineral spirits(paint thinner), you can reuse it after the dirt has settled out, you can recycle it with used motor oil, and it it is far less likely to blow up your garage due to the vapors in the winter! I still recommend the No-Toil, get it under the Honda brand in a local shop! And yes, if your filter was not soo dirty, a little water would not be such a problem later on!
