Seems by most reports by(us) mere mortals, none can tell a performance difference between the two ignition maps. Your info seems to confirm their is an actual change, yet I believe most change would be at really high revs, and logic dictates they prolly taper off the advance a bit earlier to gain revs.

Good to know! Do be sure to pass on the feedback to Splatshop Chris as well, as he may have others inquire.
Did you get any pics or part numbers of the new installation?
-
Unfortunatly, you will need near 100,000 quid for the new entry level Piper! Just Nuts!
-
Steve,
If I could get the bike in the Cessna 150, I would be in BC by now!
-
Hayy B-day! You are a spring chicken still, enjoy! Now go ride something will you!
-
Clav,
I appreciate what you are saying and I do not discount any of it. I have no magic numbers here as there are too many variables, seems things are not the same carb to carb, bike to bike, year to year, fuel to fuel, yet at the same time I learned on my "07.
In the range you are referring to, it sounded as though I was beating upon the head with a ball peen hammar!
I had never had that before, never ran more than a 35 jet and most were 33! A 36 made no change so I gave up for quite a while and just rode the bike.
Point of exercize reguardless of specific numbers, would be to find something to effect a change! Seems nothing you have tried thus far and at great expense has changed it. (save that conrod btw, someone will need it some day)
So all said, when thinking outside the box, I go for the easiest and cheapest things first!
Carry on and do report back,
Cheers,
MC

Not much advise posted soo far, yet I will tell you this.
Find a good runner, old Mont is not a bad choice but the newer the better. Buy upon condition, yes parts are available.
You likely think you recall how to ride, you may or may not as the body may disagree with the mind. You will likely have to re-learn to get body to function. Not uncommon, but no rush, just go ride and take it easy. Join a club. Have fun and enjoy yourself and meet new friends.
Protect your body parts because you will likely fall off!
Now go ride!

You do not state which bike, yet most modern bikes have a very light and progressive clutch you can cover at all times with one finger. Simple exercizes can be accomplished in any of the lower gears which forces one to learn the clutch slippage and proper application of power, reguardless or gear selected or engine rpm. You will not go forward without clutch enguaged, and it is your instant bail out tool as well.
-
I believe it will work but you will need to change the washered bushings in the rose joints. Splatshop for details.

For Ham2 !
Out on the ramp, the NEW Tomahawk!
And a real aircraft, 1982 vintage!
-
Right then, since you have gone through all this to no avail, entertain me!
So if I understand correctly, this is a "08 290 with a stock Dellorto PHBL 26? Is thayt correct?
What jets are in it? Hopefully around 35/ 120?
Put a 38-40 pilot jet in it and see what happens, you may have to turn the fuel screw in a couple turns.
-
Might try that, they are strong ! Possibly stronger than plastic screws!
-
Seems you are on the right track, however you did mention a few thinge that make me wonder, as you never mentiond overheating symptoms?
If it is really cold out, a 125 does not(may not ) produce much heat to trigger the thermo switch just putting about. Specially if the rad is getting normal airflow!
Prolly sitting stationary would kick it in after a while. Might try that, other wise the obvious true test on the thermo switch would be to put it in hot water while connected to meter.
Just thoughts, carry on lad!
-
-
I just hope you drained the fuel!
-
Alien Wrench? Sockets? Good God Lineaway, what do you expect of kids nowadays? Them springs could put an eye out or something! He could break a nail and would not be able to operate a phone for weeks! WEEKS I said!
Oh the horror!
-
You state you have gone through, but did you remove the jets and pass a fine wire thoough them? Many have been fooled!
Insure the tank is venting and flow to the carby is good as well, just thoughts!
-
I try not to use the word "impossible" yet it is quite difficult to get coolant into the gearbox on a Sherco because there are two opposing seals and a drain hole between them. Do the math on that one and you see what I mean!
-
In general(non 125 specific) the new bikes are better is seems, suspension is sweet and handling great. All the changes added up!
-
Have you considered fixing it properly? Do you have a local shop that can do it?
-
Doubt it would be coolant entry as the bike is too newish and the fact is seems to be normal expansion headspace in the rad based upon coolant level.
Not sure the exact color of Baileys, but a water and oil emulsion is usually a bit frothy. Possibly you were doing some water crossings before the bike was stored? It is possible to suck water up the tranny vent tube, is the tube in place under the carby?
-
The Kiehin carb has a built in dribble device called an overflow tube which enters the bowl and exits at the bottom. Fuel sloshing will allways dribble out and you cannot prevent this untill you block it off or run the hose up and over the carb which defeats its purpose anyway.!
If you have other running problems, then may be related to float levels, god knows where yours is set, but otherwise, capping off the dribble tube will fix that!
-
TYPICALLY NICE BIT O KIT AS LONG AS THEY HAVE NOT BEEN FLOGGED TO DEATH BY THE PREVIOUS OVNER! kIDS CAN BE HARD ON BIKES!
Sorry for the caps, I enjoyed riding my wifeys 125 when we had it, I rode a lot of club events on it!
-
Stalin prolly shot 25,000 of his own durind WWll for not marching when ordered! After that they marched!
One tough bunch ! Glad I was not in Germany at the end of the war, yet if Hitler wanted to find out what the s--t end of the stick looked like, they were the best to administer it! Not that I condone rape and pillage, yet in a sense, they got what they deserved.
-
My impression and my "christ-all" ball say the top end is a bit rattly, yet you still have an underlying knock sound coming from the primary gearset which was damaged by the offending piece you found. Both gears will likely require replacement. Might as well figure a new style clutch basket assy and the crank gear. This will be an upgrade to the dampened basket so good.
As far as it "working" for now, it will run, just sounds like a box-o -rocks!
Bike looks tidy enough otherwise, so a good project, and a lot less than a new bike if tou put 1K in it!
