Clav, obvious first question, how many gaskets were there from factory? It seems to me that many just have the one standard gasket, yet some are adjusted slightly with the shim gasket added.
If you find no verticle play in the rod, it should be fine, and if it were going to knock, it should pretty much do it all the time I would think.
I will also mention the fact my "07 bike had a similar condition to what you describe from new. Made no difference what fuel used. Long story made short, I never got rid the noise untill I increased the pilot jet to a size 38 on the stock dellorto.
The standard range on base gaskets is 1 to 3 depending upon if you want to intentionally soften it by reducing compression and also increasing squish dimention. When I refreshed the top on that bike, it had the standard gasket plus a "shim" gasket of about 0.3mm best I could tell, so I just put two standards back, actually hoping to soften it a bit, yet I could tell no difference.

Actually I think Lineaway covered a great deal in a short sentance there. Given both of 250 displacement, they would be fairly gentile to ride, good build quality, comperable weight and good handling yet different feel.
I like Scorpa, but condition and price both come into play here.

Oh God, now worried(PMSL)!
Well, I did run the fingers up the bung whilst checking it, thought it good, but now?
-
Ann, are you referring to those type decals that have a thick rubbery clear substance over them?
Not really sure it is possible to save them, usually replaced!
However, you may attempt to use a rubber cement, or clear contact adhesive
(sold in hardware stores) , paint on bothsides, let dry off, then once stuck, it does stick good!, then clean off excess with solvent once dry.
Good Luck!

Billy T,
Hi there, girlfriend been running, well, but left petrol tap on and fouled the plug. So cleaned plug and checked piston crown and it has a layer of custard . Piston has no verticle play, eny ideas?
-
AnnMarie,
Might see if you can work your way through th Trials Club Directory tab to put the TI info on there!
-
Your diagram looks ok to me if that is how the rectifier is connected.

It Lives!
After a week of messing about, including trying the partial reinstall option which took all night yesterday and FAILED!, giving me a little flag at the end(useless junk), a total wipe and reinstall worked, now just gotta remove the factory junk programs !
-
Glenn, save your money! Buy more beer!
Best I recall back in the year we combined the NATC event with the WTC event, the top US experts rode the green line with the WTC youth and pretty much got their asses handed to them. The Pro class rode the blue line, and with only minor exception of Smage and possibly Webb, same thing happened.
I believe that reguardless of all this non-stop stuff, if you can't hop, well, on the fly(now) you are done.
When I see Ray Peters not having a fun day, well?
-
Ooohhhh! The Sympathy just pours out!
Andy, your supposition of porn on this computer is totaly out of line, I am appalled and offended! This is my shed computer which goes no place but TC, and related websites, Farcebook, and email.
Just because I may have suggested certain femdom fantisies of Laia Sans in the past does not neccessarily make me a perv, and besides, it would mess up my workbench! I have other puters!
I have become weary diiking about with this thing. The Restore disks came out.
-
No! I do not believe I have seen these ratios published by any of the mfg.
I suppose if one wanted to calculate it, he would need to start turning the crank and counting the rotations.
The final drive ratio is easy division, yet overall would include, primary drive, trans and final!
-
I could not have said that more better!

I have never had a carb freeze up on a trials bike, yet I hear it happens. LOW throttle openings create higher venturi cooling, thus more temp drop accross the opening in the carb. This temp drop can be great like 30F, and I have had carb ice on a 60F day in high humidity conditions, in an aircraft!
The ice can make them loose power, sputter and such on takeoff! Not a good feeling!
-
All you fellow geeks, ok the one in the shed has gone tits up and I cannot figure why.
Late model running win7 and IE9, it still functions, yet when opening a website, such as TC, it will opem the mainpage, then if you clik anything, a bar comes up at the bottop statingthat the site is not responding. There is an option to recover webpage which just sends one into an eternal loop.
Running AVG, which reports nothing, I ran the Malwarebytes which found 1 item and apparently is unable to delete it, apparently a hijack bug of unknown origin as I cannot ID it from the report.
I also ran the windows scantool to no avail.
Thinking about just running the recovery disk as I am getting p****d!
Oh, and it said my System Restore was turned off, which was never. So screwed there too!
-
I sell them for $20!
Pity, one cannot actually ride the bike with NO tank, but it will Never leak!
-
Yes, time rolls on, and memory fades, as I tell many, in this digital world, there is no "Button" for FEEL!
My experience over time and progression of the Sherco brand over the years and several bikes from "01, "03 "05 was similar. The frame and engine changes in "06 seemed similar, yet just more refined, smoother motors, bit better suspention, then the " 07 had an adjustable rear shocker that one could quicken up to make it more lively, yet still a soft spring on the rear, seems a dual rate, so more progressive. Good and bad, bike does not rige like a cockny gasser, yet more stable and better traction in the certain situations.
Seems newer bikes had the jacked up constant rate spring, yet I did not own one, felt better, Less saggy, depending?
I think when you get into the newer geometry of the rear linkage and geometry in the "12 bike, it feels more similar to a Gasser. Overall feel is front well planted, good balance F/R yet I had issues initially. Will expound upon this later.
The TECH forks seem a charm! In my limited experience, I would compare these with the Showa on the Mont!
-
No idea what you have done here really? You say they will not move and you have good lever pressure?
I agree with Dom on most all this, only other thoughts are the cleaner has swollen the seals soo badly things are stuck.
No idea exactly what is in the Formula caliper, yet it seems there is a removable lid in the side of the bore. Might ask Splat Chris to get a guage on just how screwed you are?
-
So what was the issue? I figure it would just tap out on a year old bike?
-
As promised many years ago now, I have decided to publish the report of my long term testing of my 2.9 "07 model.
As things go, the bike started off with a rough life. As an early production "07, it was ridden by US rider Cody Webb in the "06 TDN event over the weekend. Not a problem. He only crashed it a couple times! So it was not a virgin!
Seems the bike was washed down and put back in a box for a slow boat trip to the US after, and I recieved it toward the end of the year "06, so all good. Things on the other end arrived a bit rusty, such as the chain which took some work to clean up, yet the lad kept most the scratches on the bottom where they belong, not done by many, yet there was one scratch on the top tank sticker which never got replaced because it added a bit of character along with the FIM sticker on the frame.
As I always give a new bike a good ck over and lube, this one took a bit more cleaning and such, as as I planned upon keeping it for a while I performed the "full meal deal" on it, cleaning and packing all bearings, removing tires and cleaning rims and packing spoke nipples with silecone grease for water and corrosion prevention. This sort of detailed prep takes time, yet pays off in the long run.
Each and every accessable bolt removed and treated with an anti- sieze/ grease compound, earths cleaned and ck'ed on the electrics, lighting harness removed, carb and fuel system cleaned.
Bike ran fine, I set the timing back just a bit to settle for my prefs, first Sherco I had that never did leak water into the mag cover, never!
Time goes on and I did use the bike in regular competitions throughout "07 and into "08 as I recall, yet other life events happening, such as daughters collage tuition and of course a recession which put a damper on my travelling and weekends of trials events, yet still regular riding within my backyard area and occasional local practice areas. Not quite the same, with the exception of my annual trec to TTC in Tennessee for training days weekend and a bit of bashing there.
This it the point I will tell you that I do not intend to bash anything, including my old body, too much! It takes too long to heal!
So regular clubman rides, regular maintenance performed over time and so on, I had no real problems to speak of.
I did replace a couple of dogbone bearings and bushes, couple of rear tires(total 3), one front tire and tube, couple air filters, had a leaky petcock, replaced fuel line to carb, and replaced the crank seals on it after about three years use when the idle started acting up.
All said, nothing much to report really. Good bike, now on to the "12 model and time will tell!
I may update this thread later with the tales of stupidity!
The tales of stupidity begin! Fact is this bike was used for a fair amount of experimentation. I did a fair amount of work playing with ignition timing and such with the Leonelli single map. Same basic principals will apply to the dual map such as my standard reccomendations on softening the timing from standard.
I did run a fair amount of high RPM tests with this bike, literally trying to blow it up! I failed! I could not blow it up! The motor tis tough!
Then at some point within my layoff period I decided to start the OKO experiment with the small 24mm carb as compared to the stock 26mm Dell. I did a lot of mods to this little cheap carb, and it seemed to work OK on flat ground till I took it to TN and tried to climb a mountain! So quickly found out the 272cc beast was running soo much volume of air through the small carb at mid range running under load that it was literally sucking too much fuel out the main jet. I had to reduce the main down to a 100 size to get it to run correctly under load, down about 20 points from the start. The pilot seemed ok at about 40, yet I eventually went to 38. All that worked out pretty well, the OKO is smooth and progressive like a Kiehin, yet smaller bore by 4mm as compared bakes it even better for control of the big motor and more precise than the Dell. A hard run found very little difference in power, if any, upon acceleration. Nice tame 2.9! All good! But then---!
-
Oh my! A clever retort! I love those! You go Billy!
I have a personal admission of guilt! I am "hooked on pheonix", that is hor I learnt to spell, and it increased my vocabulary to levells never seen!
I also learnt to write like a doctor soon as I realized nobody cared!
-
Good job then lad. Now you know why I know what I think I know!
-
Obviously a bit hard to decypher over the tinternet, yet I suppose a bit of piston rattle would not be unexpected on a bike that age. Once again not to be confused with the damaged primary gear.
I would suppose nothing there preventing riding the thing, and other stuff to be done later.
Prolly still as good old bike as most. Tart it up as you can, as I figure you got it cheap anyway, and if one is lucky he may take a bit worn cylinder, hone it a bit and just slip in a "B or C" piston to tone things down, as compared to a replate.
-
I really enjoy this banter, yet as witty as he is, Ham2 does not know crap about life here.
If he did, he would realize that Poutine is an illegal substance here anywhere but Nevada! It may not be sold, yet it can only be given away. It does still seem popular amongst the "Lesbians, Lesbians" as a snack, and one may eat all they like, yet if one gets caught selling it, they will throw you in jail for prostidigitation!
Now as far as that DHMO stuff, I don't think we have much in Texas. I hope it does not run downhill!
-
Yes, and may have gotton cought up in the primarys at some point!, Inspect for damaged cogs in the crank gear and clutch basket.
Have you ever heard it run? Does it make a knocking noise? Thus so.
-
I understand what 0007 is saying, but I would not put that much effort into it either as technowaldo says. To have the bore re- machined would cost more than the breakers swingarm.
You need to find a good ali welder, and if in doubt I would try contacting any(or more than one) local welding supply shop, as I hope you may have them. They could likely point you in the right direction to a local who knows his stuff and knock out that job in minutes. Then just monitor the thing afterwards and toss it if need be.
I recently found a great local welder this way, charged me a tenner for similar small job! Fantastic!
