Is that really true?
The ACU charges club secretaries, treasurers etc a tenner for the privilege of working for free for your club?
Can't be true surely?
If so why the hell does any club pay?

I needed to see it done too!
Sorta diagonal:
Remove bulkhead. One bike backwards rear wheel between seats. The other backwards rear & front tyre flat, (usually) no rear mudguard.
They do fit, honest...

GG changed the head to cope with unleaded fuel - bike ran smoother still - but I can't remember exact year. You can get thicker base gaskets too......
-
Stu,
Did your pal cure the fast Beta?
Once I got mine in rocky stream it felt just the same - quick & twitchy.
I think I've cured it. Replace fast throttle with slow (if you have slow brain like me..). Engine wise I jetted down, but the best improvement was re-packing silencer with proper stuff. I do this sooner or later usually, but it transformed engine back into the steady progessive lump I know betas 250 to be. No more "power band".
Handling wise - I RTFM....& set forks accordingly,I had too much spring wound on for my svelte figure. Moved bars back slightly too & now its steady as a rock. I was running bars too forwards initially. HTH
-
No easy way. I understand Birketts do a re-pack service.
-
Sorry to hear that, Andy.
I'll try to remember......

Seems the World boys had the day off.

MOD EDIT. Sorry - we don't allow links to that website after the owner stole a ton of our photos, removed our copyright logo from them then published them without credit.

Hey Pedro,

Those adjusters have no real effect, on early gasser forks. Just set both to min - fully towards minus sign. Forks take (I think..) about 300cc of sae 5. If too heavily damped try sae 2.5 or mix of 2.5 & 5. Note air bleeder screw (tiny, prob mullered now) and relase air after riding to save seals. You may want to file groove in plastic adjusters to access screw.
Lastly check forks are alligned - slacken spingle clamp & brace & bounce a few times, then re-tighten.
-
If bikes out of warranty - get stator rewound, much cheaper
-
Reg is easy with new bike at time of sale. Dealers are not allowed to release Reg paperwork now. So get it registered quick. You need Insurance quoting Frame No, 2 forms of ID,
-
Sam rode the Eastbourne Club's South Coast Group Trial yesterday. On the Beta .........and cleaned the lot. I'll post results later.
-
Neon .....I use a Smaller pilot jet.
& yes a light throttle spring helps too.
Also none of my Betas have "knocked" or Pinked either (off road)
-
Have ridden both & the 175 is far superior. Go for the 175, if funds allow......
-
Mr Farias.............was he not on a Gas Gas Pampera at first?
-
Billy,
Seems odd those pilot jet sizes....I've had 4 Rev-3s now & all ran superbly on one size under stock jets. i.e. 27.5 & 145.
Thats one 200 & 3 250s.
Or maybe its UK fuel & weather?
-
My 06 250 arrived...with a fast throttle. So that was off before I ride it.
Have ridden one muddy slippery southern event and 06 engine feels crisp & zippy, possibly more so than the 05. I may be able to ride 05 on Monday to check.
Other observations: 06 pilot jet seems too big, Bars feel high, rear suspension superb, and sadly carb mode still needs doing. Had trouble firing her up - kill switch was sticky - just like last years. It does seem harder to kick over, is there higher compression this year?

Forget Michy, get an IRC........and then for grip etc Gasser 250TXT (not pro).
Beta Rev 3 03 onward, and any fit late model Scorpa 250.
Re pack silencer often. Not for noise , but to restore smooth engine feel. Good to reduce noise too! Note that of above, only the Scorpa silencer need cutting open to repack.....
-
70:1 or 80:1 will be fine
-
I'm getting an 06 250 soon. I ran an 05... 03 etc before.
The 05 had a noticeable boost in poke over 04.......but not unmanageable.
I tried 06 breifly at BVM test & it confirmed my opinion as the most rideable bike with easy access to the Carb. Didn't notice any real extra zip, however was trying other really zippy bikes on that day.
I ran a Clerch cylinder head on the 05 - this had the effect of increasing torque just off idle, better pulling - but less mid range. Initally you think its softer in the mid range but then realise it'll really rev but just needs a little more throttle than before. IMHO brilliant in southern mud but maybe stock better over northern rock steps...
Is this the effect of higher compression or just the different head shape?
Beta sell a head too & it looks similar in shape & cheaper - but I don't know if thats the same profile/volume. Anyone tried that yet?
-
Well done Mr Holdsworth - top ride

Phil King in the wet

Hillborough Classic
Wyegate LDT
Bootle Classic
Fred Rist 05
Ivor Morkett LDT
I suppose the SSDT should be tops, but I found the couse too tough for this SSJ (& that was 17 years ago), tough on the wallet too!
Most of above are headed by the Verdon 5 day, but thats in France...
-
From a PR on another site, I see Steve Saunders will be on a Beta next year. Also Repsol to oil the UK Beta team.........does this mean orange wheels for Betas now?
