  1. Hope you can get something resolved, cracking venue. Maybe we should take up drug dealing and joy riding as it appears us bikers are a much greater threat to soceity and the world in general.!!!!
  2. I have 05 4rt with 06 clutch. Use ATF, starts 90% of the time when in gear, 100% when warm. Takes 5 sec to disengage when cold. But pepole say elf is best????
  3. Good luck with first round of BC this year. Neath had the first round last year so we played Guinea pig for the introduction of the FIM rule which I think we all agreed worked well. As C of C for the St Davids trial I attended the BC forum at rugby so agreed with the proposals we voted on. I don't think anything has been done against the status quo but hope there are no teething problems with any of the amendments to this years format. Having ridden SSDT several times and Ian Pollock a few times you have some of the best terrain about. Would love to hear your clubs thoughts before and after the trial so we can hopefully build on your success as I think this years BC could be really close.
  4. Not sure about the dip stick idea as this means running less oil than recomended. Breather point is very valid, why do people mod from the standard set up????. Not seen much discusion on this.
  5. 4 stroke oil for the engine, ATF for the clutch/gearbox. Have run 3 315's on ATF and now 4rt. Bike will start in gear and can set of straight away when engine is cold with onl 2 to 3 seconds of drag. If you search Montesa forum there are many discussions on this.
  6. Couple of points/questions I thought oil level should be checked with out screwing in the dipstick - is this right or wrong My second hand 4rt has crankcase breather running to atmosphere which seems to be a common mod. Is this true and does it help avoid the seal issue. Beter crankcase breating???
  7. As this thread develops it it becomes obvious that if every body actually read the book we are throwing away then all the questions above would have sorted them selves out. May I dare suggest that if most of the people against the ACU had an accident then they would be first to put a claim in. I never thought much of the "organaisation" until you start getting involved yourself. Then you are glad of a rule book as it protects those who give up their free time and incur expense to allow people to just ride!!!
  8. In the seminar on the British Champ John Collins mentioned possible new legislation on number plates targeted at stopping people avoiding being caught on speed cameras. Not sure if the fines have or are potentially going to go up into the
  9. With the British Championship being such a different series of trials it would be interesting to see not only what the riders would like (not that they will get all that they want) but what does the rest of the trials commuity think the British champ should be? Is it a stepping stone to world rounds, is it a series on its own? Is it for the spectators? Should it suit the 55 riders who enter or should it be only for the best 5 or 6 in each class? Some discussion would be interesting or are the majority of riders too busy riding their own trials such as the more traditional nationals and Novogar to worry about the British champ?
  10. Now that rules and format of this year British Champ have been sorted I thought as C of C for one of the rounds this year I would see what sort of sections riders actually like. At last years event we tried to keep sections flowing and rideable without too much balancing and hopping as we where a little uncertain of how the time issue was going to work. With this experience under our belts we could drift into making the section tighter and a little more extreme. But is this what is wanted ? I think one of the sectons that was cleaned least last year was a muddy bank that looked more like a clubman route! The 6 foot steps wher cleaned more often especially by the top riders. From the BC meeting at the ACU harder rounds seemed to be the order of the day with the winner being in the 25 to 30 region. Having been involved in either riding, observing and now CoC for our round of the British for many years its seems the tricky traditional sections seem to take the 1's and 2's all day. The big stuff is usually cleaned by most apart from the less able who have crashing 5's. From a spectator point of view we need the spectacular to show off our riders skills but what do the riders like to ride??. We are fortunate with our venue to have a reasonable mix of all of the above so maybe in answering my own question carry on with a variety of sections and severities. What do other people feel? What would peole like to see or ride?

    Bit Like Work

All very true and apt. Having not ridden for 12yrs felt like a new boy last year but by the time I got to the first group on Monday already wet and cold sooon reverted back to the been in the job for years role. Bit like having 2 weeks off work, after being back 2 hours feels like youv'e never been away. Why do we do time and time again, cos its the best and there is nothing else like it. PS discovered Gortex in a non fashionable dull colour for my riding jacket this year. Best
  12. Think you have been hard done by mate. Anyway as a guest rider who is not a member of the club should he be entitled to an award in the first place. Was it a closed to club trial?

    Upgrading My 315

I think motocross type shops stock perforated tube as standard, just need diameter required. Was going to chnage mine before SSDT last year but ran out of time.
  14. Totally agree, not sure who Dai bribes to get brilliant sunshine 2 years running but event was again superbly organised and craking publicity for off road bikes. Just wish the holes between the rocks wern't so big and deep!!!!! Definately a confidence tester.
  15. Having also just got a second hand 2005 4rt I have had similar doubts but maybe its just the way they are. I guess as a previous 2 stroke owner I am not used to all the extra mechanical noise associated with a 4rt especially when cold and clearances are larger. Does the map installed on throttle body make a difference to the audible engine noise, ie more or less retarded? Does anyone have good/bad experience of tappet adjustment. Any tips and does it make a difference? Mine also make a whine from the primary drive gearing as soon as load is applied (in gear, clutch in or out). I have changed oil to ATF and had cover off and apart from minor play on the centre needle roller all looks fine. How much play is "normal" on clutch basket? I will change bearing in near future to see if it eliminates this whine. Anybody else got similar noise?

    315r Clutch

Having had 3 315's over the last 8yrs and now 4rt I would suggest ATF oil first. Since using ATF never had problems with the clutch on any of 315's always had good action and progressive feel. If changing oil to AFT does not work then would suggest something is wrong with plates or actuator. ATF oil is designed for use in the multiple clutch packs of automatic gear boxes and seems to work well in Montesa clutches.
  17. Neath Motor Club will hold an exciting and unique special motorcycle trials event on Sunday 4th February 07 to raise money for the Tonna Hospital Alzheimer
  18. Nothing silly like tank breather restricted causing vacuum in tank after the 30 mins??
  19. I seem to re call when stator went I had a couple of problems starting, especially when it warmed up and then died all toge then and had long push home!!!
  20. Suanders and Lejeune's Rothmans Honda's took trials bikes to a different league in terms of presentation and trick bits. Probably same leap as Miller made with GOV 132 only rothmans colours where a little brighter than Barbours I would imagine. I Remember seeing Saunders ride his up a stream in a dark valley at the World Round at Patley Bridge and the bike gleamed through the dark!! 1993 Contacts 250 also special, remember Saunders again turning up at Colmore with one, chrome frame and deep red plastics with the large Radiator cowls made them look different to anything else.
  21. Pressuming nothing simple like loose wire etc I have had stator go on my 97 and friend had his go on a 01 I think. Can get them rewound in a couple of days for
  22. I knew gas gas isn't built very well but that is awesome!!!!!
  23. Showing my age I think the mono ty yams where superb to ride and maintain and loved the couple I had but just having changed to 4rt I migt be changing my mind. At 41 I can't wait for the weekend to go for a play!!!
  24. I like the centrifugal tip, never hear or seen that before but sounds logical. I guess also prevention is better than cure and have always run a little higher pressure in Scotland, 7psi front 4.5 back. If you are not going to win the event better to have a hassle free trial and with SSDT sections does not seem to be too detrimental. Always leave in the morning with higher pressure to at least get you to first group trouble free. Worth checking pressure on a regular basis as with a change in weather you can see pressure drop 1/2psi. Some people add air after the main groups before going out on the road etc but never had time for that.
  25. Presume you have tried tapping the head of the screw round with a centre punch, might save drilling. If you have to drill the head off, if you take front wheel out the caliper will probably come off the fork leg leaving the stem of the bolt sticking out minus the head which can easily be clamped with mole grips. If using non 315 bolts check length of new bolts carefully as there seems to be very little clearancve behind the caliper and the heads of the bolts that hold on the disc.
