There are at least three places in North America still resleeving the Amals. I hadn't heard about the place in Arizona, are you talking about AMR? Because they still seem to be in business. There is Lund in Washington and Triton Machining in Canada (they no longer have a website so you have to call). I used Triton and was very happy. Of course now with the weak dollar I may have to try somewhere else in the States. As for which way to go I prefer the simplicity of the Amal. Once you have a sleeved Amal, most of the problems go away. Even if I bought a new Amal I'd get it sleeved.

Good think you didn't let Steve Clark on the thing, it would have come back wadded up. Gonzo borrowed Tim Moulton's Montesa at Chehalis and apparently did better, so maybe it was the bike and not the rider?

Hey! I would have if I could have found the SL engine! But you are correct, there are two kinds of specials builders, those that talk and those that do. No one ever confuses the two. (Let's not talk about the actually special project I've been working on for, ahem, a while...)

I hate to break it to you, but a hybrid is what you have, no matter what you call it. Calling it a Hodaka is disrespectful to the Sherco chassis. Calling it a Sherco is ignoring the vintage motor in it. Own up to what it is and give it a proper name. Hodakco Sheraka Sherdaka (!) Hodaka-Sherco And finally, The Lael Special...

I think just a Specials section would suffice.

Eye of the beholder... I'd also say that the headsteadys aren't going to do much. If you need them you may want to think about dropping them straight down from the frame. With that Sherco 80 frame I'm guessing (just from eyeballin' it) that to fit all of those cooling fins you may need to machine them out of the way. I'll see if I can find a side view of a Hodaka, they're all the same, no? If you take pictures of the side view of the motor, throw a ruler into the picture. Or better yet, an 18in wheel. I then can match the scale based on the rear wheel of the Sherco (I assume the 80s still have 18in rears?). Hodakco

Is the front downtube even necessary? Will you be able to hang the Hodaka engine? Here's what I think the 80 Sherco will look like. If you give me a side view of the Hodaka engine I can Photoshop the bikes together (while not technically accurate, it will give you an idea).

There was an extra "http://" in the URL. Probably when it was copied and pasted (this forum automatically puts a "http://" into the dialog box when you add a picture so a little slip could have caused the error). Otherwise it was correct.

Well, it's a lot better than trying to find old Montesa parts. Check out this video and I'd say that there is one place with no shortage of parts...

I have heard that fitting TY250 forks may help. Apparently thicker and stronger.

My first impression too. Except that if they were good enough to fake the stamped address on the back they would have been able to make a decent brochure (cleaned up the Bultaco logo, etc.) I'm more along the lines that someone mocked up a quick brochure in the hopes of perhaps moving this into "production".

If I were to take a guess I'd say it looks like a Sammy Miller Yamaha with CZ sticker on the engine. But I really don't know.

Four stroke Bultacos, Montesas and now this? A friend sent this along to get posted. He's in the process of getting the caption translated but if anyone can assist it would be appreciated. I don't know enough Czech to get drunk or laid...
