Geez... I thought our lot were bad enough. So the land of the free ain't so free after all...

Let's have a no prize competition to name the rider in the background and can anyone remember what he was riding that year?
Looks like Mick Bailey who passengered for Ade Clarke in the late 70's. Probably on a Montesa 310 or 348. Could be old man Hemmingway (father of Ben & Dan and Uncle to Dougie)

I used to always struggle. What I have found is that the spacer prevents each bearing seating fully in the hub. If you use an appropriately sized socket as a drift and place the flat end of the socket so that it covers the face of the bearing (but not the hub) and give it a good belt with a rubber mallet you will push the opposite bearing out just enough to free the spacer. You can then get at the inner race from the opposite end and, with a good belt, out it pops. Although I haven't tried it, someone once recomended to me that you should cut a slot in one end of the spacer just wide and deep enough to get a drift against the inner race from the opposite end. Good luck

Cubby, I've been on the Manx Radio web-cam this morning and there is fair bit of snow up on Snaefel, though Douglas and Peel look fine. What's it like at South Barrule?

Help! I have an 08 250 Raga Rep and after an initial problem with a split intake rubber between the carb (Keihin) and the reed block which made it run really lean and overheat very quickly, I am still suffering with an unstable tickover and, when I shut-off after having given it full throttle, it doesn't settle down to a consistant tickover. Also an a closed throttle downhill it doesn't run smoothly. Otherwise carburates really cleanly all through the rev range. Any clues as to what the problem is???

Pindale is a definate No No. S&H used to use it in the Peak Trial but have had to give it up. The Guy who owns Eadens is called Grant Kangley and his mobile is posted on the gate at Eadens...

Only members of can use the venue at Burrycliffe. You need to get in touch with Dave Glover (sorry don't have contact details); I spoke to him at the BSSA trial at the weekend and he tells me there is a waiting list for new members as I too am refusng to pay the robbin' b****rd who now owns Eadens Fields. I only live 5 mins from Eadens and it will still be cheaper to trapes to Hawks Nest than pay

Thank you for your advice and to the anonymous text messager which advised 1.25 turns out from fully in. New rubber going on tonite so we'll see how she goes.

It's probaly somewhere in this forum but I can't find it...My recently aquired 08 Raga (250) with Keihin carb is running very lean which has been traced to a leaking rubber twixt cylinder & carb. Trouble is before it was diagnosed I have been meddling with tickover & mixture screw settings. Once the new rubber is in place I will need to set up the carb correctly. Can anyone out there give me a clue as to the correct mixture screw setting i.e number of turns out from fully in? Plus any other carb set up info will be appreciated. Ta!

The one thing our sport needs above all else is a consistant set of rules from grass roots to World Champ level. At least we now have that for those clubs who want to run their trials 'the modern way'. For those clubs who run 'no-stop' I am sure they will continue as they are. As a rider, the biggest probelm is knowing what rules I am being marked against and if you ask an observer chances are they don't know either. So all organises please, please, please post details in your event adverts what rules you are using!!!!!

I have it on good authority that the 09 bikes will be in the UK in November and (surprise, surprise) will have 'minor engine tweeks' as suggested by Mr Birkett (how many more has he got up his sleeve to keep this engine going?). Still think the 07 clours are best.
-
Oh my gawd...Now daddy will be arguing with the poor observer about how long little jonny took to ride his hoppy boppy through the section.
-
Jeeez... I thought we were over-legislated here in the UK.

Just seen the results from the Hillsborough Club's trial last Sunday and noticed that a certain Tony Scarlet won the Expert route. Good to see him back after all these years.

Or you could just loose some weight yourself!!!!

Checked the spokes on the youngsters Gasser the other day and found two adjacent spokes loose. No problem I thought, just tighten them up.... Trouble is, the thread on the spokes and/or the thread in the nipples appear to be sh***ed as any attempt to tighten just results in the nipple spinning and the spoke remaining loose. All other spokes appear fine. Any suggestions before I leap in and replace the offending spokes?

If you mean by no-stop (stop feet up = 1 mark lost etc) then I wholeheartedly agree with you.
-
-
I agree . As for which is the most skilful, IMHO I think riding a severe section no-stop is more skilful than stopping and hopping. Whilst the current "1 for a stop" rules permit stopping & hopping sideways for the loss of less than a 5, it does in principle encourage the skill of no-stop riding.

Same theme, but for SY250R (2007). Birkett recommends NGK BKR5EVX, but when I went to my local trials dealer this week for a new plug, he said that the NGK book stated BKR6EVX. Having fitted the new plug there is no discernible difference in performance. Can someone enlighten me as to the difference between 5 and 6 in the plug code?

Gents, believe me, it is a lot easier to get at the carb if you take the whole lot off [mudguard (3 screws) sub-frame(7 screws) air box (as subframe + 1 screw), silencer (part of screws that go with sub-frame) & shock bolt]. I had the whole lot off and back on in 1/2hr. Wouldn't like to do it other than in the comfort of my garage though!
-
Did mine the other night, but you may as well remove the shock mounting (1 minute job) because its the last obstacle after removing, 'fender', silencer, alloy subframe and air box! I had also removed the rear wheel which made swinging the shock out of the way a piece of cake.
-
You win. Got home after work on Monday, and b**gger me it fired first kick. Plug out and sure enough soggy as a soggy thing. Decided to take carb off to check for debris, but shouldn't have bothered because it was as clean as a whistle.

Rode yesterday (well 2 sections), before my SY 250 (2007) failed to start after falling on its (right) side while I was looking at a section. No amount of kicking and bumping could get it going and because it was bl**din' hot yesterday, I couldn't be ar**d to remove tank etc to establish potential cause, so shoved it back in the van. Before I dive in, any clues as to what's up???
