Yep, Timp's method works. Cheers Mark
  3. I agree . Terry and Linda deserve all our help for the s***t they are having to put up with in order to preserve its use. Daren't say any more 'cos I can't afford a lawyer
  4. Commenting from a position of complete ignorance, it may be more to do with Health & Safety a*** covering by manufacturers in the same way that manufacturers mould 'Not for Highway use' in the sidewalls of competition tyres.

  6. Guys, don't get into a slagging match...
  7. Andy, probably asking the wrong man here, but why do the ACU leave it to a commercial promoter to organise? I would have thought that the ACU had enough financial clout and 'expertise' to organise it themselves... or am I on the wrong planet?
  8. Yep, watched it in Monroe's bar in Palma Nova, Majorca last August whilst on hols and it was on British Eurosport!
  9. When its raining, my minder always covers my levers and grips with plastic bags to keep them dry whilst I am sussing the lines. He also has a towel handy for drying gloves and grips

On day one at Jerez (a track he has only riden once before last November) there was only one man faster than JT for most of the day... Valentino. At circuits he knows, he's definately in with a chance of a podium. A lot of people thought that his move to Tech 3 Yamaha was a mistake, but I think the biggest mistake is the putrid yellow and blue paint scheme they have come up with... its a joke!
  11. I'm thinking of switching to a 4 stroke at the end of this year and am torn between Scorpa 250F (my current preference) or Beta Rev 4T. I'm thinking Scorpa for Yamaha reliability, but Beta for size (Yamaha motor looks v tall in Scorpa frame). I'm not really concerned about weight 'cos I only tend to do easy clubman stuff and I defiantely don't do hoppy bobby stuff! What are the 4T's like with regard to regular maintenance compared with 2T's?

I've been following JT's progress in the winter tests and reckon a podium is definately on for this year. Bradly Smith has also been flying in the 125 class since he switched to the Aprilia and must be in with a shout of the title if he gets the luck. Any doom-mongers out there????
  13. I think you will find that the ACU now have strict rules as to what capacity machines youths can ride. At 13 he will be limited to 125cc irrespective of status of trial. Only when they ride as adults (min 16 years I think) can they upgrade to anything bigger than 125, but they must ride a 125 if riding as a youth at 16 or 17. No doubt someone from the ACU will correct me if I am wrong.

Braver man than me...If all else fails I'll take to a dealer and avert heartache!!!! Thanks anyway Somerset Steve.

    Bash-plate Rubbers

Tried this, but it just seemed to make the rounding on the bolt head worse. There isn't a lot of space to get the molegrips in. I might try the grinding wheel (Dremmel) if the undersize socket approach doesn't work. Thanks anyway.
  16. I shall protect the guilty by not naming names but last year at one of our club trials, a certain well know sidecar driver, feeling the worse for wear after a wedding bash the night before , turned up at the trial in his van, alreeady suited and booted for the days sport and, after joshing in the 'paddock' for half an hour, retuned to his van to unload the outfit...Now its common to turn up at a trial without helmet, boots, gloves, petrol etc, but this takes the biscuit... HOW DO YOU FORGET TO BRING YOUR BIKE!!!!!

    Bash-plate Rubbers

Thanks for the advice so far. Will it help if the crankcases are warm - I'm thinking alloy case v steel plug = differential expansion which might ease effort required to 'crack' the plug?
  18. Help!!! Tried to change the gearbox oil on my 07 SY250R yesterday and the sump-plug has rounded off and now I can't shift it . Any ideas on how to overcome will be much appreciated.
  19. After a good soak of WD40 or some gentle heat (alloy v steel - one is bound to expand more than the other) Brute force evenly applied to the outer ring with a steel drift and lump hammer attacked from the opposite side (as per bikespace advice) should do the trick. Make sure the wheel is chocked off the ground with wood whislt performing this 'delicate' act. Once bearing from one side is out, the other side is a piece of cake. Failing which take to a dealer to avoid heartache. When fitting the new bearings, apply grease to the outer race which seats in the hub and tap in with the socket of same diameter as the outer race with the face of the socket against the bearing. Good luck
  20. Don't worry, the fan on my 07 SY250 hardly ever cuts-in...maybe I should worry???
  21. When are they going to start making bits for Xispa's and Sherco's????

    What Plug?

One of the first 'mods' I did with my 07 SY250 was ditch the Champion plug and replace with an NGK BKR5EVX as reocmended by Nigel Birkett. Its been in 12 months and is still as clean as a whistle and I ride nearly every weekend.
  23. I agree . As far as the carb goes, I have had my 07 SY250 for 14 months and I haven't touched the carb yet. It runs perfectly with good clean pick-up off the bottom and it revs out really cleanly too. I ride virtually every weekend and all I do is clean the air filter out after every trial (always keep a spare and swap over each week) and make sure there is no crud or water in the air box. The air box is very deep and the inlet tract is miles above the bottom of the air box where water collects. When I clean it out I use a sponge on a wire to get right to the bottom to soak up any water.
  24. Carb?? Haven't found mine yet!!!
