    Barrol Studs

Hi Bondy If they try to turn with two nuts, try three. Perhaps gently tap the end of the stud to free up the thread without damaging the stud. Try some easing fluid, something like PlusGas overnight. Slide a good fitting ring spanner onto the stud before spending a bit of time ensuring the nuts are done up tight against each other, then carefully try to 'shock' the stud out using the pre-positioned ring spanner. Open ended spanners may slip. If this doesn't release the studs, you may have to try applying a small amount of heat to the casing - without melting it or setting anything on fire... Its usually the last one that is most difficult to get out, so do the last one first. Good luck.
  2. plus the cost of the wheel build...? unless you have a go yourself? (wheel building skills could be handy on Rannoch Moor...)

    Fork Caps

...and don't forget to re-tighten them after...
  4. neither have I, but not good, I'd wager...
  5. Really enjoyed the site Charles. Very informative. Thanks. I had a 320 MAJESTY new, many years ago... if only I had kept it... Peter
  6. Try here or Google Motor Cycle Racks http://www.davecoope...rbike_racks.asp No idea if these are any good, but it shows the idea. One snag, they may leave the bike vulnerable to a rear end shunt? Also, I have a classic Mini. Not sure how it would handle with the weight of a trails bike on the back? Small trailer may be better...? Perhaps fit the towbar, then borrow a bike rack (from a manufacturer if possible) and try it...? If it doesn't work then perhaps go for a lightweight trailer?
  7. Hi Paul. The short answer is 5... but that's only part of the story. You could Google ACU Handbook, and look for the trails section. Here's the section that deals with Non-Stop. I cut and pasted it so the formatting may be all over the place... PS - who'd be an observer...its easier to qualify as a lawyer... 204 TRIALS AUTO CYCLE UNION HANDBOOK 2012 B. NON-STOP (SOLO &SIDECAR) 0 Clean 1 Footing once 2 Footing twice 3 Footing more than twice 5 Failure 5 When requested by a rider rather than attempt the section 5 Entering a section before being called upon to do so by an official 10 Not attempting a section when called upon to do so by an Official 10 For missing a section or failing to have punch card marked. Graded Hills. Where a Section is to be termed a ‘Graded Hill’ a notice to that effect must be displayed at the Section Begins, and the following shall apply: – Numbered boards must be placed at defined places along the Section, in order that a rider’s performance may be determined. Marks will be lost in a decreasing manner from 5 to 0 depending on the distance a rider can traverse the Section without failure. The front wheel spindle is the part of the machine to be used in assessing the distance traversed. 0 Clean 1 Reaching or passing the “1 Board” without Failure. 2 Reaching or passing the “2 Board” without Failure. 3 Reaching or passing the “3 Board” without Failure. 5 Failure to reach the “3 Board”. 5 When requested by a rider rather than attempt the section 10 Not attempting a Section when called upon to do so by an Official 10 For missing a section or failing to have punch card marked. DEFINITIONS. Clean: A rider traversing a Section as defined above without penalty as described under FOOTING or FAILURE shall be unpenalised and given a “CLEAN”. Footing: Footing will be considered to have occurred if any part of the rider’s body or any part of the machine, (with the exception of the tyres or the sump shield) touches the ground or the rider benefit from any part of their body, or any part of the machine, (with the exception of the tyres or the sump shield) leaning on an obstacle (tree, wall etc.), Footing outside the lateral limits of a Section does not constitute a failure but should simply be classed as footing. Failure: A failure is considered to have occurred if: – a) Solo (i) The machine ceases to move in a forward direction. (ii) The rider dismounts from the machine. Dismount will be deemed to have occurred when both of the rider’s feet are on the ground at the same side of the machine. ( Sidecar (i) The machine ceases to move in a forward direction. (ii) The rider dismounts from the machine. Dismount will be deemed to have occurred when both of the rider’s feet are on the ground at the same side of the machine. (iii) The passenger foots i.e. if any part of the passenger’s body touches the ground, or benefit is gained from any part of his body leaning on an obstacle (tree, wall etc.). The following apply to solo or sidecar: c) A machine does not stay within the intended limits of the section and within each marker. d) If any wheel of the machine crosses any boundary tape or marker whether the wheel be on the ground or airborne before the front wheel spindle passes the “Section ends” sign. e) The rider or passenger is held responsible for displacing a marker or support in an observed section whereby the observer considers it necessary to reinstate the flag /marker prior to the passage of the next rider The displacing of a marking not relating to the competitor’s route will be considered to warrant a penalty. The rider or passenger is held responsible for displacing a flag, marker or support in an observed section etc. f) Travelling in a forward direction against the direction of the Section. g) The machine, or rider or passenger receives outside assistance. h) A rider or person having an interest in a rider’s performance, who in any way alters the severity of a section without the authority of an official.
  8. I think it was Sammy Miller who said that when it comes to transporting your bike, you should spend a little more in order to protect your investment. I think Sam used Pick-ups in those days. Some people used to make short trailers where the bike sat on its sump shield and the rear wheel hung off the back. Sam wondered what would happen if someone ran into the back of your set up - what sort of mess would your bike be in - and perhaps more appropriately, who would cover the cost of repair? I guess its your choice in the end.
  9. Looks interesting, but I feel that some sort of trailer would be a lot safer... ...what about that one in front of your car...? ...there may also be some sort of regulations concerning towing a two wheeled vehicle with a four wheeled vehicle...? you know what governments are like...
  10. Link corrupted, so when I searched Gumtree for that end reference number this came up... http://www.gumtree.c...5BC26F072188A1D it mentions a missing bolt... so may be correct?
  11. Excellent Thanks for taking the trouble to post. Staying at one section does have one advantage - seeing how the muddy bank deteriorates after a few riders exit the river. Also interesting to see how much grip some people seem to get... front wheel vertical!!! Also I have a question, and remember I haven't ridden for 40 years... Why do riders ride with one finger on the clutch please...?
  12. now that's a whole thread in itself... I'm the fool that thinks its OK to ride in steel toe capped wellies. Assuming they are still available, I'm sure someone will tell me the error of my ways.
  13. Just thinking. If you are brand new to trails, it may be helpful to you to attend a couple before you ride, and perhaps offer to observe for one event? (You will probably be very popular with the organisers if you do...) I have been away from trials for many a long year, and if the holes in the Swiss Cheese all line up, I may start again. Before I do, I shall observe a couple of times, just so I can get the hang of this STOP - NO STOP malarkey. Good luck!
  14. I don't have one yet, but when I do, I will...
  15. I haven't ridden for 40 years... so how do we get a modern trials bike on the road without a speedo? I assume modern trials bikes don't come with a speedo?
  16. will the plastic not 'weld' with a small soldering iron...? practice on something else, then weld the crack on both sides...? nothing to lose maybe not as complex as this, but the ideas there... this chap welds in a bent piece of wire as reinforcement... and uses a similar piece of plastic as a 'welding rod'... "the customer will never know" some of the YouTube links may also be useful?

    2012 Carb Leaks

Surely this can't be right...? who reckons this is acceptable? Fuel is expensive enough - when you can get it.... I'd be interested in the answer to this one. Hope you get it sorted.
  18. Hi Bondy. Is this yours? http://www.ebay.co.u...1#ht_614wt_1135 It seems as though you have done a great deal to improve this Bulto. Seems a pity to let it go now? I've learned a lot about Bultos from the questions you asked and that others have answered. Good luck with whatever you tackle next. Peter
  19. No rush. Its snowing again now... Its not a good injury for a trails rider - all that weight bearing through the hand. Best do as they say and don't come back too soon. meanwhile, to retain some level of fitness you could try this... Seriously. Hope it heals quickly and well.
  20. seems OK to me Bud... (via Google Chrome)
  21. I just Googled 36mm socket and this lot popped up http://www.ebay.co.u...w=socket&_dmd=2 Some look as though they are made of mild cheese, but perhaps one of the impact sockets might last long enough to get the sprocket off, and with a bit of luck, back on again. Some of them are driven by 1/2" drives, but I think I'd go for a bigger drive than that... And on the up side, if you get one, we can all borrow it...
  22. can't you borrow a socket or a spanner...? OSSAs need tlc...
