  1. Never thought I would say it, but watching this video almost makes me want to join the Sierra Club
  2. Get that boy a full face helmet.........don't want to ruin that smile
  3. The Slo Mo, his talent and the music really made the video a pleasure to watch
  4. A new frame would probably be cheaper
  5. Spray some carb cleaner around the intake to locate a vacuum leak, The idle will pick up when you find a leak. Much safer than butane!
  6. Looks like you have some serious $ and time into these bikes.......nice job!
  7. I am for all that and a minimum seat height........much higher than it is now.
  8. Strange...doesn't seem like there would be that much movement with 5" travel shocks... maybe your chain/sprockets are very worn....but from the looks of the bike, that would be the only thing worn out! I remember riding one of these and it seemed to me that the front end was too light...maybe the footpegs were moved rearward somewhat...I don't know. Did your cylinder have a small round port (7mm or so) above the exhaust port? This port also transfered into the exhaust
  9. Great machine.......I love the handlebar mounting
  10. I would say most riders ride no stop anyway ( other than the EX/PROS) because they suck at stop and balance/hop.......I think lower level riders scores and skill level will improve when forced to ride No Stop. I think a 5 for a stop rather than a one will be a problem. No doubt about it......rider participation and spectator turnouts were much greater in the past..... but why......I am not sure.
  11. Perhaps under the No Stop Rule, lines like these would no longer seem reasonable....so hopefully would not be sections. Throw in a few of those cambers and those boys wouldn't need their footpegs. (Nice ride though)
  12. Agreed, I can attend a Trial and have almost as much visiting with everyone as riding. Kind of hard to know what kids are really thinking, but seems the sport has taken on a lot of intensity ( section wise) and I think kids tend to get discouraged about Trials at a younger age. Lots of pressure to get better rather than just trying to enjoy the ride. Maybe its always been that way and i'am just getting forgetful. I got a kick out of checking our Nat. here in CA watching all the action and extreme diversity in our sport. The riders on the Vintage bikes seemed more intense than the Pros!!! Its All About the Love.
  13. A quick fix would be to remove the idle mixture screw and blow some compressed air thru the hole. ( Re install the idle screw and start 1/2 turn out). This should flush out all parts of the idle circuit. This used to be a quick remedy especially for bikes equipped with Keihin Carbs. which are for some reason notorious for idle and off idle running problems
  14. A funny thing happened to my son recently. He is now 21 and just acquired his first MX bike after only riding Trials since age 7. Like most Trials Riders, I had taught him to always thank the checkers which leads to the rest of the story....... He was at the local MX track for practice day and before leaving, circled the track one last time to thank the Flag Men for flagging all day. While in the pits, 2of the flag men found my son and each gave him the one day free passes they were given from track management as their partial payment for flagging. Apparently they had never been "Thanked" before and proceeded to tell my son about all the complaining they get from riders instead. I think this says a lot about the mentality of MX Riders versus the typical Trials Rider.
  15. Chuck West......now there's a name I haven't heard in a number of years. I bet Chuck could write quite a book about the American Trials Scene.......and I would be the first in line to purchase one
  16. What helps when bleeding the rear brake is to stand the bike up (front wheel up) as this will help the air bubbles move toward the master cyl.while you are pushing the fluid (using a syringe like in the video) from the caliper to the master cyl. (air bubbles naturally rise)
  17. Glenn, I think Michaud was riding a SWM at the '83 Tex WR. But I do remember quite a few top riders on Fantic. The real special ones had Bultaco Sherpa Square Box silencers welded on the the end of the Fantic silencers but they may have been removed before the bikes were sold Duane Walters from here in S. Cal got one of the bikes which he had to beg Chuck West for. It was a rocketship for sure but better bottom end was the real improvement as I recall. Sounds like your bike has enough changes to have been a bike for one of the top riders.

    Brake Secrets

A steel insert makes somewhat of an improvement on the stock hub. Seems to me a Yam. TY rear hub which moved the brake to the right (and sprocket on left) side thereby eliminating the crossover cable for better braking power.
  19. Both......... Also, anyone remember the term "Dynamic Stop" from the last No-Stop Go Round? Not sure this reason for not Fiving (or a one) was good or not. Ishy...........is Joe Blog's AKA "Copemech" by chance?
  20. Nothing will solve the problem of Checker Opinion........3 checkers in the section all showing a different score............I've seen that too many times and think its only going to get worse. A 5 for a momentary stop is going to be a tough call for most checkers.....scoring a 1 for a stop 10 years ago was bad enough.
  21. I was going to say but Nigel beat me to it. James, just take Nigel with you next time and he can straighten the story out (the way he sees it) with Ignacio............or on second thought don't, do you know how boring TC would be without Nigel?
  22. I was just informed of the recent passing of Bob Miller through our So. Cal Trials Forum. Some of you may remember Bob as the US Fantic Importer and owner of Section One Trials Products. Bob has been missing from the our sport for the last 7 or 8 years due to health problems. I believe he was 75 when he passed. Bob was probably best known for his custom made accessories for Bultacos in the 80's and as the US Fantic Importer through the 90's. He was usually the "go to guy" if you needed advice or a spare part at events here in CA. It wasn't uncommon to see Bob helping riders with mechanical problems regardless of the brand of bike they rode. And he usually had a few newbies in tow prior to an event giving them advice and riding tips.......an all around great guy with an unending passion for the sport. Bob was known to have helped at least 3 of our National Champs on their road to fame.....but usually behind the scenes. One of my fondest memories of Bob was at the 1983 Texas World Round. I arrived a couple of days in advance to take in all the pre-event activities. I looked Bob up soon after arrival and found him helping a couple of older riders from Guatemala who I might add were long past their prime with bikes that matched......but determined to enter and finish. To the best of my memory, one on an older Montesa and the other on an even older Bultaco. Neither bike looked or ran in any way that would make you want to bet on either rider finishing. Bob spent well over a day helping both riders prep and tune their machines....and the only payment he would accept from them was one of their Club T Shirts which he displayed on his shop wall for many years after. Bob was one of the many people who made Trials so enjoyable over the years and he will be dearly missed......
