Glen, Inter centre team trial what team did jarvis ride for?
Nigel, you got me on that one
Kinell, bee in my bonnet? never
-
so your saying dan is a prity good uk rider (a bit like a lot of good clubman). rides his bike on the road and something about 'group joining?' he's well off the pace of Jarvis, Connor and Baker, but is improving (a bit like a good clubman)
TooFastTim, why not say Dan is a very talented rider at uk national level and is moving up the leader board - that's how i see him.
just goes to show southern riders are better than northern
-
with a tail wind on a down i just pipped 175mph in a muddy section on sunday - felt like it was 176mph thou
-
I can never quite get my head around the words "Road Trials" it leaves me cold and thinking why are trials bikes being ridden on the roads? Anyway, I would expect Dan to do very well at the SSDT he's ridden it enough times!! But i doubt he can beat Jarvis. Connor is on the mend so he will be looking for a win and for my money Jarvis and Connor are both better then Morris and Thorpe. Keep this post alive until the SSDT if Thorpe, Morris beats Jarvis, Connor i'll....... ummm..... say you was right. visa versa if i'm right thou!
What about Thorpe beating Javis and Connor at Hawstone Park - no chance there
-
Southern lads are just a touch better and who else then the fantastic Sam Connor and Joe Baker - really surprised you didn't know this
-
Because basicly Lampkin and Fuji are better outdoors than they are indoors, also the Mont is going to perform much better outdoors than it does indoors.
Should be good and I can't wait till Hawkstone
I ride the Mont (4rt) and have owned GG 280pro, Sherco290, Scropa sy, Beta rev3
The Mont is not as good as the GG in the mud, nor has it the hill climbing abilities of the 2-stroke. But slippery logs, rocks, tree roots its the better bike against all the 2-strokes.
I'd be suprised if the Mont challenges the GG at Hawkstone Park. Hawstone has similar conditions to a piece of land locally to me and my ride there the other day was a disaster - last year it was a different story on Sherco 290.
The Mont should do well in Spain if conditions are dry and the sections short and technical. More CC's, more weight distributed over the rear, less weight overall. These changes would make the Mont the winning bike Outdoors.

Not sure if this is the right advise, try releasing a little fluid from system it may help. Don't hold me to this advise thou!
-
I have been an owner and like wise parts for my then 2002 sy250 were ready available. The Crosswaite's gave me excellent service and never failed to deliver. The forced quota of bikes thrust upon them is very unfair and Nigel Birkett to take this on is a very brave move.
Some concerns i have for Scorpa, which are indelible linked to this thrust of sale increases: No top riders, No top World indoor/outdoor results.
Good luck to the Crosswaite
-
ziro, where did you get the parts from?
-
I reckon, as per TMX feature the motors gone back a bit in the chassis. my own 4rt when sitting on its centre stand tends to tip forward, meaning perhaps more weight over the front end. note the factory 4rt pic in the TMX tips backwards.
any guesses on the increased CC's of doug's bike?
-
summing up all the above comments + others on the restictors/noise issues of the 4rt.
all the restrictors removed
some of the restrictors removed
none of restrictors removed
sleeve inserted in to end cap muffler restrictor
welded piece of pipe on the end of the muffler
if you like your 4rt at its loudest with no restrictors that's 'OKAY' if: The land you are riding has Pre67 machinery there on a regular basis.
If not, there is a very good chance you are indeed doing our sport damage. Why? if your that deaf that you are unable to judge the noise of your 4rt then speak with a trial official to seek there advice/opinion. don't leave the approach to the official they may not want to do this, just remember no one likes saying, "sorry your can't ride here your bikes to loud" take the intiative and ask.
my best advice regarding the above bullet points is the sleeves inserts. if you have a couple as i do then you'll be able to regulate the noise, but always ask the events officials if you are unsure.
-
doug's bike was rumoured to be prity stock at sheffield, the only major difference was the suspension - what an acheivement to be competitive ah! raga's/cab bikes will no doubt resembled a F1 2-stroke for power, which will please those riders set on having old out of date machinery designed for stuck in the past riders!
come oooooon the 4-strokes!!!!
-
doug's bike has HRC internals and the CC has been increased - anyone know the exact CC size?
-
I'd pay to watch a world indoor trial with only British riders!! i'd even pay for the T-Shirt and after the event i'd buy them all a drink and congratulate them for being British and entaining me and there supporters.
let me put this slightly differently. Our country is S**T at most sports and when you have sportsmen/woman who are good enough to challenge the worlds best, then i'm on the side of our boys/girls. If this makes me predudice then thats fine by me.
-
graham jarvis, steve colley, sam connor, shaun morris to name some other names and i'm not biasied.
still, well done Bou "now can we have a Brit as the wild card for the remaining rounds?"
-
its a sad day when the power that be who over see to top class events are less organised at reporting results then local ground roots clubs.
-
great trial, only just got the results Richard Ely took the win. photo's, results and write up (click me)
there will be a graham jarvis training day at rotherfield, kent 12/2/04. 10 is the maximum and
-
righty me - the left is used for repositioning the knackers after riding over anything bigger than a worms turd mound - never used the clutch so removed the lever - stops the old fingers getting squashed, make sense ah!
-
Now thats a better result for Doug considering this is his second indoor event on the 4rt. Has his bike got a different exhaust manifold to the standard machine? (see pics www.worldtrialsinfo.com).
Thinking about that 4-stroke v 2-stroke topic. If the 4rt can go head to head with the 2-strokes at this early stage in its development, this is one hell of an acheivement. Keeping the 2-strokes alive will force the 4-stroke technology development to multipy year on year. Hopefully (and i'm stressing this) noise of the 4-stokes will be kept to a minimum.
-
agree rabie, and well done with the sidcup 60 - great trial.
if there are any manufacturers reading these and other comments regarding noise on modern 4-strokes then as a middle of the road clubman rider the top end power of a modern 4-stroke is not needed, bottom to mid-ranged power is what most riders need and noise only comes with under performing baffling.
the problem with noise is not really a power output issue, but more weight of the components to curb the noise. if an in-line four 1000cc jap bike producing 160+ bhp can sound less offensive when passing you by at road side using less than half its power, then why do modern 4-strokes trials bike have to be any louder than any road going 250cc bike? - its more a matter of the weight of the silencer (baffling) and not power output that is governing the noise db level. if montesa added 1 kilo to the bike to have it baffled better then surely this is not to much to ask.
torque and mid-range is needed, Sherco are claiming to be producing a lighter 4-stroke bike then montesa, montesa I would have thought would have the means and technology to improve the baffling and maintain the bikes current weight surely
-
I've ridden my 4rt twice and although this is not a great deal I have made some the modifications to the bike:
1) removed the restictors
2) two teeth extra on the rear sprocket adding 1.5 links to the chain
3) fast action throttle
4) 6inch bars
The bikes power seems better on the second ride, the front end I find instills me with confidence, power is on par with my old 2004 2.9 Sherco. The clutch is know different from my Sherco or come to think of it my formers 2003 Scorpa SY 250, 2002 Gas Gas 280pro, 1999 Montesa 315. The reason i say this is because I have had riders coming up to me and say "the clutch is snatchy on those bikes". Well it ain't, or i've got a unique 4rt.
The bikes only been ridden in very muddy conditions, it looses traction like a 2-stroke (perhaps a little sooner) but....... when its grips "o my god" its launch time and this is whilst its lost the grip, spinning, and then bites. I've never ridden or owned a 4-stroke, but once i've mastered this sudden 'grip' i will be better in the mud than a 2-stroke. I fitted the fast action throttle because the power comes in a little later a 2-stroke, and i'm never one to turn the twist grip to max. Fitting the larger rear sprocket allows 4th gear to be used in the mud. I've found that by removing the restrictors the bike is less fluffy (crisp). The noise is a little loud for my liking and i'm looking to reduce the hole of the end cap to 14mm with a sleeve insert (next job). The big handlebars are because i'm over 6 feet - i weigh 12.5 stone.
The weirdest thing is having to keep the power on going down hill, and in ice conditions the bike would go over logs at angles something my sherco would never have done well. I've been riding 3 years and have won my area's b class route for 2004.
My tranistion from 2 to 4-stroke has been easier than i had hoped, i like the bike (alot) and my riding abilities will improve with this machine - confidence from day 1 is what made me sell my Sherco for the Mont and thanks goes to my local dealer for this.
The rumours of costs of repairing this bike are not something that are of a major concern to me because the engine is Honda crf250 derived and those MX/enduro bikes get hammered and still go well and sound good after a hard season. one seasons MX would be 5+ seasons trials and this is why the costs are of know concern. The amount of times you would rebuild a Gas Gas pro in five years full season's riding would most probable cost the same or more than one rebuild for the 4rt. Change the oil and filter, clean the air filter ever time you ride, i'm confident the bike will last its a Honda - that's my theory
-
assuming these top riders got their Mont's six weeks ago - unless they're practising 7 days a week then an obvious guess is they're still learning and playing with the new technology. 6 weeks is not a long time, well not for those who are not demanding results.
-
blimming eek, the bikes only been in the country 5 minutes - theres so few of-em in the country you could most probably transport the whole lot to one trial in one transit van; and bearing in mind most riders buying them have never ridden a 4-stroke let alone a modern one, would it be fair to say "give it a bit more time?"
-
-
sounds like you had a fun day riding and santa was very kind with them pressie's. perhaps your new years resolution is to go for the '3' rather than accept the '5'
