  1. Funny thing is that the supposably superior leonelli stator is the only one to have any real problems, I remember there being a leonelli stator available as a kit to fix the dodgy beta stator. First faulty stator I came across on a sherco was in about 03 when the ducati electronica ones were fazed out, the then importer said he hadn't had any fail before then
  2. Scorpa didn't develop a 4stroke, they just bought a yamaha wr250f engine & asked for some changes to be made Developing the 320 almost sent sherco under which is why it was rushed to the marketplace underdeveloped Beta probably had a hand from ktm & took their time, lucky for them the 4stroke only rule disappeared Has the gas gas been released yet or have they decided it's a dead duck? Big thing here is to be faster the rules say your engine can be twice the size if it's a 4stroke
  3. Not quite right there petejohn, MNZ were running basic MX1 & 2 classes & because of this juniors could use either the 125 2stroke or 250 4stroke. As you can imagine it didn't take the parents/bill payers long to discover just how expensive the 250s are to maintain & to their horror when they try to get rid of the things there is no resale value. Those who did want to change back also came up against the problem of the japanese manufacturers not wanting to build 125s anymore due to the way honda got the rules set up for a 100% capacity advantage for 4strokes, for trials that doesn't exist even in the junior world champs. Just ask Jake how hard the TRW Mont was to ride compared to the 2strokes everyone else used, think it's a legal restriction for juniors to use 125s in europe My take on what type of engine we'll end up with is it depends on what it's being used for, in MX it will be 4stroke due to thats where the money is for the big 4-lots of expensive parts to replace often until the noise issue gets it canned altogether. Trials I can see staying with 2strokes now that the 4stroke only rule has apparently died, helps that most of the manufacturers are small european companies who can't afford the development costs of building a 4stroke,honda/montesa excluded KTM has said that they plan on sticking with making 2strokes for the foreseeable future & have noticed the swing back towards them, sounds like they have some more cards up their sleeves as far as future developement of the engine, probably fuel injection etc. Then again they also have their electric bike due for release

    New Ossa Video

[quote name='Scorpa4banger' date='Apr 20 2010, 07:24 PM' post='235413' I hurd on the grape vine that you can request usd forks or conventional when you place the order not sure if thats the case or not. The original article said usd forks standard with conventionals as a option The frame is different to what was shown at the show & in the article, ie a steel frame with no alloy castings at the steering head & swing arm pivot. Probably a development mule to finalise geometry before having the moulds made

    Japan Postponed

Lucky the next 1 is within driving range, will make a good away leg at the end of the year
  6. The bush/sleeve isn't particularly hard so they wear quickly, having a needle roller in the lever isn't the best choice either. The new parts will cure it for a while
  7. Don't rub it in, mine has probably other 15deg lean than that with the new bracket

    Ossa, Action Pics

Looks good, I see they've got a set of conventional forks in it already Good to see how many countries have gotten importers set up already
  9. I know what you mean about the steel stand being short although the issue isn't the stand rather than the bracket. I replaced the bracket on my 05 last year, part number is the same but the stand comes further forward which makes the bike lean over more Not sure what the way to fix it is
  10. Or kero, gives a nice grabby clutch When you dump the oil make sure you remove the filler plug as it helps the oil drain quicker by acting as a vent, leaning the bike over slightly while draining the oil will stop it sitting on the bashplate
  11. Would need good aim with the size of the new filler cap

    3 Bolts Rear Rotor?

I'm pretty sure a pro wheel would fit although I've never tried it one of my mates who has ridden gassers since the early 90s has said he doesn't need a spare as he knows wher mine is , infact all the later hubs other the betas appear to be the same so should fit but you'd need to try first

    Flatslide Options

I have a oko gotten from the oz importer & love it, bikes starts easier & will continue pulling at lower revs than with the dellorto. The rear boot they supply isn't really right but the keihin one from sherco allows removal & replacement of the airbox as easily as with the original carb. I can't remember the price but look at splatshops site as thats where I got mine They also supply a universal throttle cable which I threw across the workshop, I hate those things. You can remove the adjuster from the dellorto & it screws into the top perfectly which allows use of the standard cable If you do buy either a oko or keihin the good thing is that parts are interchangeable & cheap on ebay, about $25us for a set of 10 jets & full rebuild kits aren't much more Feel free to contact me & I'll try to explain the ins & outs of it
  14. Or maybe thats a photo from his parents wedding

    New Bars

I have both Ryan's training videos & don't remember seeing his bars as being forward of vertical but thats not to say they aren't, I'm not to his level so am prepared to run them as I do to help me get over the back on big drops When I first started riding Stefan Merrimans father taught most training days & used to say to aim the bars midway between the axle & rim which is back quite a way. I had a ride of his bike back in 06 & couldn't believe how cramped it felt, didn't stop him beating me though which goes to show that set up is an individual thing

    New Bars

It's generally only the young guys who I've seen with the bars forward of vertical, mind you they also point their levers toward the ground & wear their pants round their ankles
  17. tony27

    New Bars

Have mine set so that when viewed side on they appear vertical
  18. tony27

    New Bars

All depends on how you found the original height, from memory 5inch is the original amount of rise. Only go higher if you're over 6foot or have a bad back & can't bend down properly, raising bar height effectively moves your weight back as you're standing more upright

    New Bars

I know exactly what you mean about the slight bend, makes it even more interesting when you lift the front into a rock or bank & find you topple to 1 side due to your shoulders being at different heights If they are the original bars they've survived well, have more than 1 bent set sitting around, both domino(standard fitment) & renthal. Both that I can remember bending involved 8 or so feet drops onto the bars If you decide on renthals then you'll want 5inch rise, feel very much the same as the original domimos & you can add some colour to the front end while you're at it
  20. Or just lay the bike on the ground & pull off the clutch cover & tip it around the clutch but then maybe I'm impatient or lazy
  21. Original stickers do cost a bit but they last really well, 5 hard years on my 05 & the only one not original now is the seat from snapping the guard off at the front I'd highly recommend using splatshop as well, its good to be able to look up & see exactly what you're in for before buying
  22. What Cope said is fine with me as well
  23. You sound like our beta importer, he seems to end up with his bike sold while it's still on the boat . Not sure when he last had his own new bike

    2007 Sherco 290

The 06 was the bike with the dodgy shock, pretty sure they were fixed for 07 They're probably meaning that if you find one with a trp or ohlins that they are significantly better & worth the money
