  1. Next step on from them is a set of the folding levers from ARc or AJP, I've had a set of the ARC levers for a few years & their length is almost exactly the same as the mid length sherco ones
  2. If you're only just getting into trials then a access model would be perfect, you don't need the latest spec bike which will have a higher cost. Generally the engine is latest spec with an older frame & possibly suspension but for most people it takes quite a while to be able to fully use the bike to the point where that makes a difference
  3. It's where our hot water cylinder is, quite helpful for drying out helmets as well. You probably won't have 1 if you have a boiler for heating etc
  4. I'd agree with Cope on the reasoning behind getting a 125, after all Jake won the national title on a gasser 125 in preparation for his time in europe where he had no choice
  5. Stay away from trees & rocks when its fixed You certainly made a good job of flattening it, must have been like trying to breathe through a straw for the bike
  6. I had heard the stuff about the lead substitutes being a lot more harmful than the lead but like all things it has been ignored by goverments etc due to it fitting in with their own views, mainly that lead is bad even though it was used for years without the effects that were claimed to occur
  7. Neo, I've always had a spare filter ready to go, must be something to do with riding in water a lot. They used to be cheap but last I heard in NZ price was $40 odd for a genuine filter plus freight. Still end up replacing 1 every couple of years though
  8. Using petrol to wash the filter can damage the glue but its way more likely to expand the pores in the foam making it easier for dirt to pass through I use turps to get the oil out of the filter then use hot soapy water to remove the turps & the clean water to make sure the soap is gone. It's always amazing how much dirt comes out with the turps & then how much the soapy water manages to find as well. Throw it in the hot water cupboard overnight before oiling & fit your spare that is already oiled & kept in a sealed bag

    New Ossa Sr 280 R

That means the price in Australia is a bargain then, they're being imported by the sherco importer for less than 10% more than a sherco

    Fork Adjustment

Left may have the compression damper in it but it not externally adjustable, only the preload is able to be altered. To alter the compression damping you need to alter the oil weight(viscosity)or height
  11. Ask Ryan about getting the later flywheel cover that doesn't have the sprocket cover, the type fitted has a habit of warping & leaving a gap in front of the sprocket that allows water to get flicked from the chain straight into the magneto. I've run the later type since they came out & reckon you probably won't come across a better mod As far as the power thing goes, the 290 has a bit more everywhere over the 250 without any steps in the delivery so as long as you can learn to use the clutch as a secondary form of throttle you should be okay
  12. Going on the number of parents looking to offload their 250f mx bikes to get 2Ts due to expensive blow ups at less than 16hrs old I can't agree with the 4Ts outlasting 2Ts anymore

    Pilot Jetting

No need to remove the jet, the number is stamped on the head in plain sight. Pilot jet is the jet towards the front of the carb closest to the main body
  14. You've fallen into the classic torque versus flywheel trap, a 2T will always produce more torque than a 4T for any given capacity due to the fact they fire twice as often. A 4T needs a heavier flywheel to keep the engine turning for the revolution where the engine isn't firing which is what you feel as torque
  15. Problem is said engineer recommends B but makes the mistake of also giving the price of A which the accountant sees & decides the difference is better in his pocket or stomach Unfortunately when it hits the fan the finger then gets pointed at the engineer by the now fatter accountant This doesn't come from an engineer but from a toolmaker who does see it happen all the time in the factories we do work for
  16. I can confirm that rumour Cope, I'm running a beta piston in my bike as the importer is a good friend who gave me 1 as payment for some work I'd done for him. Figured 5 years of hard use was almost enough for a piston, measured okay still though I had a beta piston in my 01 as well. From what I've seen Vertex use a insert in the mould that they change depending on who the order is for which should bring the cost down for both manufacturers
  17. No need to butcher the factory harness, all you need are 5? female spade terminals, 2 pieces of wire joined at 1 terminal which connects to yellow power wire from the stator. 1 end goes to the regulator & the other to the thermoswitch. Then you connect a wire from the other side of the thermoswitch to the unplugged red wire that comes fom the diode mounted on the coil mount. You then need to connect a kill swith to the coil where the black wire was-also a normal female spade terminal. I spent the money on the harness from RYP & recommend doing that as its literally plug & play
  18. Thats quite a long time ago that the JTRs were around, the 370 was a tractor type grunter & the 270 was the expert level animal. Not many people got on with the 270 & the 370s were generally only used by lower grade riders who trail rode them when not competing The modern 280s/300s are probably quite similar in their delivery although the 300 is probably slightly less snappy, compared to a bike from the 90s all newer bikes are snappy though
  19. There was a email sent out to most of the NZ riders in the last few weeks with photos, have a look at the non stop adventures website & you may find the photos. Basically its very similar to the scorpa ty175f-same motor but a gas gas frame & better looking rear guard
  20. Isn't that the normal way of doing things, get rid the those at the coalface while keeping the higher paid managers. That way when service/efficiency suffers you can either hire more staff(managers) or give 1 of your mates a contract to provide a lesser service at a higher cost while blaming the previous goverment & the staff you laid off for the whole mess

    Sherco St 2011

I reckon you're right on the blue rims, gold just looks cheap to me
  22. Anyone with a flywheel puller will be able to tell you if the timing is in the standard position, the mark on the stator should line up with the edge mount that has a screw through it. May be possible to check with the flywheel in place Have a look at the manuals pinned at the topic of the list
  23. Not sure I've ridden there Tim but it's definately 1 that PeterB mentioned when we stayed at Elliot's for the Waikato rounds in June. Looks like my sort of venue, very much like next weekends trial Went for a practise with Kevin at the quarry behind the tui brewery & had a good talk about their trip to Ossa along with a look at the photos of the trip, looks like they covered some ground while there
  24. As you can imagine the police aren't happy about that little stunt, made national news as thats the main highway out of Auckland, sort of like doing that on the M1 At least the camera man was wearing leathers unlike the guy he was following in bare feet
