Bite the bullet & order a stator from Chris at Splatshop, sorted my ignition problem a year or so ago.
Didn't end up having to fit it as it scared the other 1 into behaving
-
I'd say you've hit the nail on the head there Cope, I've heard of older betas & monts draining a full tank through the engine overnight. Luckily not to the point of blowing the barrel off when kicked over
-
Finally managed to collect the all balls kit, has all the bearings & sleeves for the dogbones as well as where the linkage connects to the swingarm, lower shock bearing & seals as well

Easiest way to post photos is become a trialscentral supporter, you don't need to use a remote hosting site for your photos that way

A friend has asked me to post this
I would like to get a new piston and/or rings for my Montesa 123. It seems they are like rocking horse ****. Only one I found was on a French classic trial website and was a whopping 177 euros.
Does anyone know where to find a piston/rings for a 1973 Montesa Cota 123, 54 mm bore size. First choice would be a 1st oversize piston and rings, second choice a Std piston and rings or third choice a set of std rings. Does anyone know of a piston or rings from another make of engine that will fit or can be modified to fit? The gudgeon pin is 14 mm.
Any help,would be appreciated

Pretty sure the 04 runs leonelli ignition so the manuals that are linked at the top are what you need to use, the line on the stator plate should line up with the righthand edge of the mounting lug.
Quite a few threads here that have photos showing the set up, Copemech has a very good phot explanation of exactly how to advance or retard the timing
-
All balls do seals but not wipers, also do linkage kits which I have 1 sitting at the local KTM dealer to collect
Seal kit number is 55-137, fits a lot of early 80s Kawasakis & quite a few Yamahas
-
The flat area at the rear of the cases is where the number should be, only reason there would be no number is that the cases have been replaced for some reason-normally something major has gone wrong & the cases have not been cost effective to repair
-
Thats the only filter, you're correct in thinking it should be oiled.
The shark fin filters are common to all shercos up to the latest models with the tank & airbox swapped around
-
Bit windy here at the moment but only dropping to about 20c overnight, hopefully will get a ride or 2 in before going back to work on the 5th
-
No seals just sealed bearings
-
This is a dellorto carb just not a round slide version
-
Have you checked that the timing hasn't been retarded, have a look at the sherco manuals for timing & read the explanation of what moving the timing does
-
What I ended up doing was to remake the sleeves in toolsteel & get them nitrided, the originals aren't very hard at all & develop grroves very quickly.
The other advantage in making your own is you're not stuck with the factory clearances, very easy to make to holes a better fit to the bolts

Those of you who know Chris know how good he is on any bike, he rode 1 of the north island trials rounds on his KTM & did quite well. He started in trials like a lot of the extreme enduro boys which gives him a major advantage over most riders in the technical stuff
Good to see he won the Roof of Africa again, third time in a row?

Thats tidy looking alright, looks like it's had a owner who looked after it a bit better
-
Look at the top of the page for the service manual links, they have pretty much everything you could possibly need in them
-
Depends on how good looking she is & whether she's prepared to give you riding lessons
-
That doesn't sound right, the video of last years bike pointed out the insert in the airbox hose that was removable to allow fitment of a keihin without needing to buy a different hose
-
Older Gas Gas ones fit as they ran the caliper above the swingarm as well. Think you'd need to look at pre 2000 model stuff
-
Any time they bring up the work for your benefit idea the jobs that are mentioned happen to be things done by council workers.
It's not hard to imagine 1 of the accountants saying you're out of a job friday but see you monday for less money than you pay in tax which doesn't solve anything
Unfortunately no goverment seems that interested in looking after the people of their country by creating real productive jobs instead of letting them head to china
-
If it's hard to get in & out as well then it's caused by the alcohol in the fuel making the tank expand. Seems to be happening to a lot of bikes now, just something you have to live with
-
The original yamaha seat would be the most comfortable by far, the aftermarket units have seats not much better than a modern bikes sticker, very small & thin
To clean out your tank have a look at this thread

Last couple of trials I've had that problem as well, ended up putting it down to the fuel sitting in the float bowl going off quicker than previously as draining the carb seems to fix the problem
-
Pistons aren't available from them going off that, have a price in the high $180s & are obsolete so you can't order them
