  1. yes I agree, point being I have had various newer better (?) bikes and enjoy riding the little scorpa as much as or more than any of them, main reason I went a bit bigger on capacity is the fact that original pistons are nigh on impossible to get hold off anyway. (ground clearence is low but doesn't bother me on the courses I ride)
  2. someone (N D) is missing the point !
  3. HI it is achieved from bore size only, still very much under test but going well so far, not the kit from France that is too expensive even if they did ever reply to emails (Yes I know it is a French website and I don't speak the language but I expected someone there to speak enough english to at least reply), this kit is being put together here (England), and will be a bolt on to the 163cc bikes but the 143cc engines need the crankcase mouth opening up.
  4. does anyone know where I could get a mitani front pipe or possibly complete exhaust system from for my SY175F Racing, have got the engine capacity up to 195cc and done the other recommended mods and am interested in losing some weight and the mitani bits seem best place to start, can anyone help ? Have seen some parts at banyeres in spain but very exppensive plus carriage to pay ! also seen a nice idea on the takuma narita website, new end caps in alloy for existing silencer but tried to communicate with site in english and predictably no response, anyone fluent in japanese !!! I thought there may be renewed interest in these bikes with Scorpa selling the 125 again and GAS GAS bringing out the randonne.
  5. I have just added my vote, love going to the manx trial etc.
  6. I use the soapy water method but have always used hand soap in a bowl of hot water, dries out perfect and decals stick like xxxx to a blanket. can anyone recommend someone to do some copy stickers for my 175 scorpa, I have a set of original yellow and red but there are no more mudguard ones available so want someone that can copy original for future use.
  7. Please tell me it's a mate of the sellers putting silly bids on ! if not I am ready for the asylum, take me away asap ps I have a spare cover, bargain price of £100 anyone interested !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  8. I can see the sense in changing just the bearing as you point out, it is very rare to change the rod but not the little end bearing, the con rod is incredibly hard and if there are no obvious signs of wear, ridges or ovality then i can't see a problem putting a new bearing in, tricky bit might be getting the correct bearing. Also have to agree about some of the manufacturers having our pants down on parts prices, another good reason to diy on the big end bearing
  9. can anyone tell me where to get a suitable rim to lace to a ty rear hub to convert to tubeless, I have contacted two different vendors who both say that there is not a rim available as the spoke angle is wrong ? I am sure there are people out there running a tubeless rear wheel (just for trials that allow it), so any info appreciated, also don't think spoke angle is hyper critical, have been told that spokes won't seal, surely they don't need to seal it's the rim tape that does that and as long as spoke tightens reasonably in rim it will be ok with perhaps a couple of checks for tension after it has been ridden (or am I wrong ?)
  10. I am just about to go ahead with upping capacity of my 175 majesty to 200cc (199 cc with a 250 + 0.75 piston) only thing I need sorting now is the process of bushing the piston to accept the smaller gudgeon pin from the 175, anyone done this or know just how to go about it, I have lathe and reamers etc so making a bush is no problem, just wondered how the bush is fixed in the piston, any comments help appreciated.
  11. has anyone bought the tank/seat unit from Majesty website, my Majesty tank fell apart on saturday (lugs for mounting rubbers fell off of tank !), has anyone had a sammy miller tank / seat unit, what are your thoughts, which should I get or any ideas for gluing lugs back on my exisiting Majesty tank (that would be lots cheaper, spoken as a true tight yorkshire man))
  12. Thanks for replies, lots of useful info, I did start with a donor bike but unfortunately (hindsight is 20/20 isn't it) I sold the old frame and forks so cannot use that frame number, I was told by craig that he could furnish me with a dating certificate so thought it would not be a problem, have now had a look and cannot find a frame number (amazed with a godden built frame), maybe the ty frame with logbook is the way to proceed (of course I would not dream of just stamping the number and using the majesty frame !), I also like woody,s suggestion of getting pics of a similar road registered bike and using that for a dating reference, so anyone with a frame from a ty especially with log book or pics of or own a road registered 175 Majesty yam please get in touch, seems to be quite a few twin shock type trials that have a bit of road work so really do want to register it. (in spite of all the hassle it was worth the work, the new frame and forks are a massive improvement over the old yam frame even though it does not look that different the steering and suspension are much better)
  13. I have finished my TY Majesty (well finished mark 0.5, still lots of mods to carry out) and am able to ride trials with it, problem I have is that I want to ride some trials that have road use, I bought the frame from Majesty yamaha as a new mini majesty godden built frame and have not been able to get a dating certificate from the supplier (in spite of being one and having made several requests), anyone any ideas, should I ring shirty or would that be a waste of time ? any help much appreciated asap as I would like to ride the Richmond clubs two day blue bar trial in May. (ps will post picture if someone tells me how)
  14. I would recommend contacting Ian Pebery to do the 200 conversion for you, he has lots of experience with the engine and knows what he is doing when it comes to making the engine perform better with the bigger piston fitted (i.e. cylinder head mods to combustion chamber and squish band) just sticking a bigger piston in can actually stop the engine revving out as well as the standard 175.
  15. HI Jim, I am just about finished with my Majesty yam that as you know has RL forks on it, I came to fill forks with oil tonight and before I got anywhere near 236cc they were overflowing ! I have stripped forks to make sure nothing wrong and all appears ok, not doubting your knowledge but any ideas ? is 236cc the right quantity, they are the earlier forks without air assistance, help much appreciated, want to give it a test ride at the weekend (been a year in the building !)
  16. Just as a possible cheaper alternative than the TY250 and Yam mono forks I have fitted beamish suzuki forks to my majesty 175, these were cheaper to buy than the Yam ones, they have leading axle layout (my frame has a steeper steering head angle than standard TY) and they are larger diameter, this being the main reason I ditched the 175 forks as there was flex in them which translated as a vague feeling to the steering, also I have milled off the tiller type clamps and fitted conventional clamps to top yoke, they were a straight fit to the majesty (and yam) frame, I fitted a new alloy steering stem with new taper bearings, final thing with the suzuki forks is that they are genuine twin shock forks, there are opinions that the suzuki forks are not very good (and I have not used them in anger yet so can't comment) but forks can be fine tuned with springs, spring preloads, air pressure, oil weight and quantity (even alteration to damping if you want to go that far) so am pretty confident that getting the action sorted to my like isn't a problem.
  17. HI Thanks for reply, yes was aware of Langcourt, also found someone by googling two stroke cylinder repair but not local, might have to go to someone not local, also need a piston, any best place for that, any spurious pistons available, and does anyone do a deal on cylinder repair and piston, thanks for any help.
  18. Had to sign in just to agree with Woody, I like the line about trials being about losing less marks not being disappointed if you don't clean every section, maybe thats why there is resistance to no stop as you have less chance of fiddling about with your line to get the clean, instead you have to drop a dab or two. On the subject of observers being inconsistent I really think this is the big problem with no stop as an inconsistent observer will cost a rider (potentially) a lot more marks due to his or her interpretation, which brings me to a point I have made on sevral previous occasions, I would say that at least half of the inconsistencies with observers are due to three things, intimidation by riders (they should be banned for any aggressive behaviour towards any officials), observers being star struck by one or other rider and not wanting to be the person that costs them the win and finally there are a few instances of mates marks although this is pretty rare as far as I can see.
  19. as title, have got a 175 (163cc) and would like to source a piston just in case, also would not mind going a little bigger on capacity, I know 150cc pistons are readily available for TTR yams so they would fit but apart from christian rayer who sells 200 kits (and wont reply to several emails ?) I cannot source a suitable piston, has anyone found an alternative ? i.e. a big bore tlr or something ??

    315 Repairs

Can anyone tell me best place to get a damaged 315 cylinder repaired ? preferably close to Wakefield/Leeds but anywhere would be a start. Thanks
  21. Well eventually got bike back together and had a ride (only ten mins though nd not very good land so not the best test), my flywheel is now 1.8kg so not as light as Archies or the birkett mod, I also upped the pilot jet size to 20, did this because having given carb a complete strip and ultrasonic cleaning I sussed out that the accelerator pump draws fuel through the pilot jet so can see it being starved of fuel, bike now responds better off of bottom and the cough stall has completely gone, however it is very slightly rich right at bottom I am hoping next weekend to get out and have enough time to play with air screw and needle position to fine tune it, fingers crossed, bike is getting better every time out, great little bike. has anyone sourced a new piston for the 163 engine, am thinking of the future when it could be the part of the engine that we cannot get, birks reckons they originally came from supplier in France but not available at moment (wish Scorp would go the big bore route with the new ty125), would like a new piston for stock or even a suitable piston two or three mm oversize, don't want to go to 200 kit as Christian rayer never replies to my queries and birks told me that the 200 kit does not rev out as good as the 163.
  22. sorry may have given a bit of duff info, looks like there may be some years of DT175 that are same but some are not, I bought a DT and it was wrong, I am 99% sure a TY suitable item will have part number beginning with 525-
  23. no it is not same as a dt for a start it is a deeper basket and may also have different gear, I waited months (perhaps more than a year) to locate a new TY 175 clutch basket as mine had wear, I never came across a basket from any other model that would fit. a DT complete clutch may do with a DT casing as that also sticks out a little further than the TY one.
  24. Going off topic slightly bue to have to agree that in the clip the rider does go backwards a couple of times, as I have posted before I think that half of the problem is riders getting away with it either through intimidation of officials or favouritism, if fives were given out when they should be we would be able to have fairer results, less severe sections (in my opinion even less severe if no stop rules were used) (although I have voted for stop permitted when looking at rule changes because I believe the sport should follow the lead from the world championship and believe that more new riders, particularly youth want stop permitted), less time wasting in sections, even Bou goes backwards in sections when alternating between front and rear wheel hopping.
  25. Have a friend who had a gasser (coincidentally) that did a very similar thing, that farted about and then refused to start, turned out to be a duff ignition, if I remember right it was either stator or pick up which was throwing the spark all over the place, this could well be whats happening with yours, if you don't get it going soon try someone elses stator and pick up (assuming you have a mate with a similar age gasser), my mates went down a week after being loaned out and coming back with igniton full of water, has yours been left with water in ignition ?
