  1. I have done the same mod on my 175 (190 ish cc) that has a bit of port work plus higher compression, electronic ignition, wes exhaust and lightened flywheel, I used a DT 175 reed block and DT 175 carb so as to keep it all in period, lots of work cutting back the intake to accept bigger reed block, also fitted boyesen reeds, works very well with the higher spec engine but not sure if it would benefit a standard 175.
  2. who is doing the longer stroke conversion for the 175 ?
  3. Can anyone tell me if spokes are available off the shelf to rebuild the front wheel for a beamish/rl ? or if not best place to get it done near Leeds in West Yorkshire, Thanks ps it,s for a conversion on my TY/Majesty 200 clone, I am putting a beamish front end on it.
  4. Just found out we have received a volunteer to run the small wheels class at our next trial (next saturday at post hill) so that must be good news.
  5. This subject was discussed at our last club meeting (West Leeds) and it was suggested that we should also put on a conducted course, the problem was the usual one of not enough volunteers to help out, we struggle to get course markers and observers to mark out the 10 sections of a normal club trial so any volunteers to help please hold your hand up at the front of the class.
  6. I have rock shocks on my Majesty, it had betor gas shocks on before the rock shocks and have to say the rock shocks are a big improvement over the betor shocks, also same as others who have bought them I cannot praise the service enough, cannot see how falcons (or any others for that matter) can be worth the extra expense or hassle ?
  7. A message to you woody, just had call back from Moira she is sending a letter from Yamaha confirming age of bike, it does cost now though
  8. Thanks Woody, I have not tried to ring them but thanks for that, I will try customer services, yes it is a modified yamaha frame and matches engine number so should be ok there, a bit off topic I know but anyone know best way to rig up speedo and horn for test, it has electronic igniton so no field coils to power a horn, is it easiest to get a speedo for a pushbike from halfords or something similar.
  9. I want to register my TY/Majesty Yam and have written to Yamaha uk for confirmation of age but have been ignored, does anyone know where I can get proof of age that the DVLA will accept ? I have matching frame and engine numbers for bike.
  10. My thoughts, is ignition system ok ? don't know who it was but only one person suggested testing ignition system, when an engine eats plugs it is usually a weak ignition unless it's throwing oil up the bore, can you get an iridum plug for it ? any iridium plug requires far less voltage to create a good strong spark, the denso one's are the best in this respect (have a look at the sparkplugs.co.uk site for the full explanation). I know it's not rectifying the problem but if it keeps bike running it must be worth a try for nine quid, I always run iridium plugs in my bikes and they last forever. (not literally before anyone get's smart)
  11. "Good quality standard chain, WD-40 or Tri Flow, blast it clean and re-treat after a ride" I second that copemech, no need for x ring or o ring chains on a trials bike, good maintenance will see a chain last a season for most riders and an annual renewal is best as sprockets also wear.
  12. Just to add my two pennarth (if that's a word) I recently bought a + two mm piston for my 175 (now 185 with the big piston) and got it from one of the suggested reputable sources, it was not cheap at
  13. I have not ridden for a couple of years (due to injury) but looking forward to riding this year, great trial and love the island just such a pity that the steam packet have to rip you off so much to get there, it nearly stops me going but cannot keep away from the island, good luck Marky G sure you will love it.
  14. Have to agree, did you see the vid of narita riding the beta ? awesome almost like watching bou practice (sorry it's off subject but it wasn't me who started it)
  15. HI I would suggest that amal carbs themselves are a better place to start, amalcarb.co.uk they are much cheaper than surrey cycles and you can deal direct with them.
  16. I have used it when doing big trials, i.e. manx, white rose and found it works well, stops the usual problems with tubeless trials tyres of always having slight leakage from bead, yes there is a bit of slime in tyre when you come to change it but in my experience this wipes off easily with a cloth, not much of a downside to it.
  17. Thanks for replies, Stork 955 you said you used a standard kickstart, what was it from ? Andy T thanks for that, RD kickstart does look suditable and with being a metal one I can bend and shorten it if needs be, looks like I will be ebaying for one of those, Cheers to both
  18. Does anyone know of an alternative kickstart for the 175, the one on my bike is worn and rather than mess about welding and bushing etc or replacement with a new standard kickstart at about
  19. As you said they need to be run at slightly lower pressures and agree that IRC (my favourite) and Mich are better but they are nearly twice the price, in my and some of my friends opinion they are the best budget tyre and not that far away from the more expensive tyres, it depends whether you are trying to win a championship, make your living from trials (not likely !) or as most of us riding for the fun of it.
  20. A few of us came down from leeds and were really pleased to see Dibbs ride so well, what a difference in a couple of years, only two things wrong, first the massive stitch up over the non appearance (or non ride rather) of Danny macaskill, we were all persuaded to go this year to see him ride, secondly and more of a reason not to go again was that we were unlucky enough to get in a block with a load of p*** heads who could not stop getting up to go for beer climbing all over the seats and then if not going for beer going to toilets, we missed a lot of the first hour, they should adopt the system that snooker uses, you can go out but you stay out till the interval. Rant over it was a great night and only question now is will anybody win anything in 2011 apart from Bou !
  21. Another vote for the Nippon Denso iridium plugs from me, only plug I have ever fitted that did actually seem to make a performance difference (that was on a highly tuned race bike engine), but always perform well, and require less voltage for a good spark plus long lasting, only downside is the range is not as big as the NGK iridium plugs, NGK iridium being second choice, in the long run no difference in cost.
  22. Sounds to me like it is short of fuel, check fuel line i.e. pull pipe off of carb end and check for plenty of flow, next step is strip and clean carb, probably dirt somewhere between fuel tank and getting into engine so you might have to systematically go through it. hope that helps a little.
  23. Says it all really, unfortunately the boxing day trial at post hill has had to be cancelled. (yet another one !)
  24. Four TY'S JON ? you must be a glutton for punishment or have a money pit ? I noticed that the clamp retaining screws might come loose so have put spring washers on hopefully that will do the trick.
  25. Thanks for that, I plumped for the domino levers, not cheap but feel and look real quality.
