I'm shortly getting the top end done on my TY 250 Mono. Its currently on a .25 oversize piston and I've had two opinions on where to go next. One guy reckoned moving up to a .50 would be fine but another said I would need to go to at least .75 to make sure it was over any previous wear. Does anyone have experience or any recommendations they would like to share? Ta.

I have a couple of old TY's now and was wondering what other people do about the condition of their fork sanctions. Do you paint them or what ?

Hi I have purchased a 2nd hand exhaust for my TY250D from america, and need some advise on removing carbon/ oil deposits from the in side of the exhaust. I read some where that heating the exhaust on a bbq can burn off these deposits, but I am concerned that the heat might distort the exhausts shape. Is it ok to heat my exhaust on a bbq? I just bought a 86 TY350 that's in excellent condition. It's has a Falcon mono shock and a aluminum silencer but appears otherwise stock. The previous owner claims it has a new rebuild but the bike wouldn't start. I cleaned the pilot jet and noticed the needle has a funny shape, almost a bulb on the tip of the needle. I assume this is normal? Anyway, after cleaning the carb it started up and runs great EXCEPT, a horrible knocking engine noise. I first thought it was the piston pin but after reading about "pinging", I now wonder if there's too much distance between the piston crown and head? I understand how to measure the distance but how much clearance is critical? Tha…

Hi Can anybody advise me where to buy a Ty80 exhaust silencer please,I’ve just got hold of a 1975 Ty 80 and the silencer is missing off the end of the box and I’m struggling to find one.Somebody has previously jammed a length of copper pipe into the exhaust and it needs a proper one sorting.Im in Uk.

I've recently bought a 92 250 pinky, the clutch cover is pitted along the bottom edge and has been patched. I used to own a 94 pinky (in 94), it did the same after a couple of years. The reason i've been told is that the magnesium cover slowly dissolves in water. Is it true that earlier, pre pinky monos used aluminium covers rather than magnesium, if so do they fit exactly onto the pinky? Thanks in advance.

Hi all, I know that the front wheel of my 74 TY250 was not on correctly when I bought the bike. I have looked at the pictures in the book but can't see what spacers/bearing/washers go where. Mine has a split spacer on the right side between the pinch part and the fork tube- the split spacer/tube is longer than the fork tube bottom..... is this correct? Is there a spacer between the edge of the fork tube bottom and the wheel hub(around the axle)? On the left: If there anything between the brake hub and the edge of the fork tube(around the axle)? Hi all, Will kindly ask about available replacement ingition covers for TYR?? Have done some mapping of bolt patterns TYR/IT by pics but want to ask if any of you can confirm if any IT cover (as clutch cover, and cases -82) do fit TYR?, simply because of available NOS/used IT250-490 parts.... Bolt patter ign covers -82 IT 3 holes and TYR-84-> 4 holes. I

has anybody fitted the mikuni vm24 carb to the ty 175 to improve performance or is it not worth it.

I have notice that the rear shock top mount have been moved down . Does anybody have info on this mod ? Thanks

I'm looking for a throttle cable assembly (from the carb top to the adjuster nut at the twist throttle) and the carburetor spring for the carb slide of my friend's 74 ty 250. Where is the best place to find these parts? Do these parts interchange with any other yamaha model? Thanks, Doug

Group, I have looked at the pictures I could find on the Web but can't find a good 'close-up' picture of both sides of a TY175 gas tank. Would someone mind posting a couple of pictures? I'm looking for the steel tank pictures, not the fibre one. Mine is a '76, but any year will do. Thanks Alan

hello friends, sorry to be a nuisance but was hoping if someone would confirm that the original gearing on a '74 ty250A is 14/53....i often see it said 13/53 was the original gearing? the bike has 12/53 on it now. my question is, if i put a 14 on the front how many link chain would i need..is it 110 or 114? would the bike then suck at trials tho? seeing as im going through the hassle of getting it road legal be good to keep up with traffic! many many thanks from an mechanically ignorant green horn in NYC!
