I have a friend with a mint original TY 125 looking world wide for a mirror ( Round, chrome and stem ) . He has had no luck sourcing in France, could anybody point us/him in the direction, preferbly the Uk, if not further afield. Apparently these were particular to the Ty range unless anybody knows different. Thanks

So I have been experimenting with different fork spacers, stock vs different shorter ones as I weigh only 150lbs. The stock spacers are great for drops etc. but I find softening the fork action with shorter spacers makes the front deflect less and soak up bumps a lot better. Also been playing a lot with handlebar rotation and found that the further forward I rotate, the lighter the steering becomes to the point that I am fighting the wheel to not turn so easily. I notice that a lot of TY's have the bars quite far forward. What are your findings and opinions on this? I have Falcons on the back with the top mounts dropped forward 4 inches. The forks are set at 20mm pr…

Hello, I recently bought a 78 TY 250. It is next to impossible to start cold unless you push it. Once it is running, it goes great. I cleaned the carb and checked the compression. The compression is 90. I have a new top end off a 2nd donor bike that is new I was going to swap out. I cannot find the specs for compression anywhere. Is the 90 compression the problem and if so, I have not been able to find the head gasket and bottom gasket. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks! Don

Getting ready to send my head and cylinder to BJ Racing. I have bought many parts from them but never had any machine work done. Also thinking of sending a carb and reed block to them for work. Anyone here had experiences with their porting and head work. They seem to be good honest guys from my parts dealings. Thanks

Hi everyone. The 2 exhaust studs on my TY175 have been butchered by the previous owner so it looks like I am going to have to helicoil them. I just thought I would check on here to see if anybody else has done them and if there is anything I should watch out for.Thanks.

  8. Hi, Iv'e started restoring a Yamaha ty175 1976, this is my first bike and my first restoration project. I'm trying to restore it to its original looks to then bring to classic motorcycle shows. When starting it in the past it has kicked back at me and smashed the cluch/crankcase cover. I have repainted it and now starting to rebuild it but finding it hard to come across parts in my price range will a Yamaha DT175 kickstart and crankcase cover fit my Yamaha TY175. I will try and post some pictures of it on its way to a compleded TY! thanks,

Hello I have just picked up two Yamaha TY250 Twinshock bikes today. 1 Is Complete the 2nd is a bit of a basket case but even the better out of the two bikes needs a fair amount of work to get it going. Had a little play about once I got them in the garage and one of the bikes is leaking fuel from the carb. There is two Pipe nipples on the carb, one is located at the back of the carb low down by what looks like a jet (this is a brass nut at the very back of the carb just under the air inlet)and the other is low down on the carb on the opersite side of the choke lever, Should these be connected to anything? The AutoLubes have been ditched on both bikes, I was wondering if…

The part number on CMSNL is 3221536300, but on there it looks like a plastic one. - I want to make sure I have the right quantity of gearbox oil in there. Thanks for your help!

  16. Hello everyone, I am planning to rebuild my engine later on in the year, and was wondering about a few things. I am going to give it a new big end and little end, along with main bearing etc, the plan is to do it all at once then I won't need to strip it again for a while. If it needs a rebore, I want to take it out to 270, but I also will want to get the inlet shortened and get the head and the top of the barrel machined down a bit to raise the compression. I have heard that Birketts are the best place to get this done, but do they have a website I could look at? If not does anyone have a phone number to hand for them? I also have a very large amount of modifications…

Hello to everyone, This is the first time that I have used a forum so please excuse any mistakes, I have a Yamaha Majesty (250) that is fitted with a Yamaha OW 10 Works engine. I have had the bike for 25 years it was completely striped 24 years ago ready for a rebuild, when Mick Andrews visiting the engineering firm I work at saw the bike and confirmed that it had been one of his bikes. I also saw his new TY mono shock and decided to buy one, the Majesty was carefully packed up in box`s until last week when I decided to have a clear out. So 25 years on can anyone help with any information at all, I have already spoken to two kind gentlemen who have provided me with lots o…
