I am trying to remove the rear spring of a R model shock with the remote reservoir. When I unscrew the preload retaining collar it will not slide off as it catches on the damping adjuster. What do I need to do???

Is it worth loosing the back mudguard loop, a la Majesty? Is there anything needed to brace the two sides in lieu of it? I kinda like having it for dragging the back about, but I'm also keen to shave some weight ...

Got a side stand off eBay that was billed as a 175 side stand. It looks like one but is far too short. So don't know if it's been cut down or is off a TY80 or something. Would one of you with an original side stand on their 175 be kind enough to measure it for me? I'm going to cut it and weld an extension in. Thanks Dave

Same TY as I had the petcock question. Hasn't been ridden a lot in a few years, but getting it out and going again. I am 6 ft 0 inches, 200 lbs, ride pretty moderate easy stuff. Ride a 200 GG in modern, so I am used to minimal power, but motor is fairly fresh and surprisingly strong. Occasionally ride it, trying to improve it a bit but on a fairly low budget. Has the SM peg kit slightly down and back. -Front forks: I have a set of 250 yokes and forks to RB and install. Have had 10 yrs so not sure of shape. Beyond normal rebuild, what are the mods good for me. Preload spacer, oil viscosity and amount, tubes above top of yoke, possible replacement springs, any ori…

I keep coming back to the idea of replacing the stock right-side crankcase cover with a single-piece unit from a YZ or IT. I've seen pictures of bikes with this mod and love the clean look. A while back I found some info on this but could not currently locate the thread. I remember that, as the YZ/IT motors changed, one model's cover was a direct fit while others needed to be modified (JB welded and filed - I've never had great results with JB weld). Has anyone out there done this modification? Does anyone know which model of YZ or IT would bolt right on? Thanks,

So I pulled an old ty175 from a garage a little while ago and found inside the tank was lots of bits that looked like it had fallen of the side wall, any idea what it is and how to fix? Its a sammy miller tank amd seat combined. Cheers, josh

Hey All,. I just rescued what I thought was a 74 ish ty 250 to clean up and resale. The more I looked at it I thought the wheel base was a little long it measures 50 inches from the lower front shock mount to the lower rear shock mount. That is 2 inches longer than my other 74 ty 250 I bought new. Everything else on the bike is exactly like my ty 250 except the angle of the front steering tower. I'm curious if the vin number might tell me something if anyone can help it is 434-008998. THanks for any info. Jbird

Hi again, what is the front brake like when new/properly set up? I have scuffed drum with emery cloth, chalked and removed high spots on shoes all afternoon, centred brake before tightening wheel spindle etc, adjusted cam lever, adjusted cable bottom and top. Will this bike ever nose wheelie or am I expecting too much? It doesn't really feel like it would stop me on a steep downhill. Frustrated. I probably need a new cable? Should it have the same stopping power as my mate's mid 80s mono ty250?

Hi all, have searched but no joy. Has anyone opened up a wes or sammy mid box and taken pics or measurements? I would quite like to fabricate something similar as I cant afford to buy fancy parts and also enjoy that sort of thing. Or some good info on what exhaust characteristics the ty250 ts enjoys. Have the '74 model but may change barrel and head to the c or d as I've read they had better porting etc. Thanks.

Just took my heavily modified 78 175 out for its maiden run yesterday. Thrilled with how it runs and performs now but the chassis performance has gone all wrong. Hoping to get a new gameplan to make it work like it should. Steering has become incredibly heavy and floppy from side to side. I've lengthened the swingarm as per standard 1.5 inches +/-, lowered and moved rearward the pegs and moved top shock mounts forward about 2", running 13.4" betors. These mods are proven successful by many others already. Where it goes wrong is in the forks and if I hadn't already given away the wimpy (but working geometry wise) standard forks, I'd just put it back to stock... The f…

Hey Guy's It's been awhile , but here is my question ...The clutch push lever on on my 84 Ty easily lifts up to the point that I can completely remove it from the left side case ..Is this normal ? I've never noticed this before .. thanks

The front brake on my recently acquired TY 175 is beyond poor, even for a "modern" drum, much worse than I recall from the day. All seems OK with plenty of meat on the shoes and careful setting up but I'm going to try new shoes. Does anyone's experience with these show that one make of replacement shoe is better than another and, if so, which is the one to go for? Thanks

I had considered this project pretty much finished. She has had everything replaced from new carb to full engine rebuild. All cables etc, seals. There is basically hardly any original left. She was starting great and she had new points, condenser and coil. Points were set to 1.8mm btdc at 0.35mm. I have had a few runs on her and she was lugging me around, all 15 stone of me. She does have a new 60cc barrel kit as the 50cc was badly worn and scored. Just recently a friend came over and asked "does it run"? I promptly went to start it and that's when the trouble began. It ran for about 30 seconds then fluttered out. Since then it won't start. Although she is getting a nice …

I suspect the previous owner of my '80 TY fitted el cheapo brake shoes, there's very little going on back there even when it's stone cold (and I can't hit the brakes hard as I have right knee and ankle problems) So, what shoes should I replace them with, and is there anything else I can do to improve the brake performance?

Hi, I'm sure I've read this already somewhere so apologies if it is a repeat. Can you replace the crank seals in situ - i.e. without splitting the cases? I've seen mixed opinions on this......

Here are my two TY250A's. I ride them a couple of times per week on average and tend to alternate between the two. I usually thrash one, while I prepping the other. It's amazing how different their personalities are. Lemmy is a growler that does it's best work from bottom to mid-range. And Rob Halford pulls strong from the bottom to a screaming top end. Their names definitely fit their personalities. Neither is super trick, but both are well set-up for my needs.
