I am really having trouble finding used fuel tanks in decent shape for my '76 TY projects (250 and 175). Are there other options if I want to stay with steel or aluminum? Thanks, Tom

evening/morning all, finallyfinallyfinally I have bonded with the TY! It happened on Saturday at RTC practice track. All of the piston/leb/clutch/swing arm shimming/wheel bearing/chain slider/carb rebuilding/etc/etc trauma has paled into insignificance. It just all 'clicked' and I now love riding this bike - talk about slow burn! A big up for the other members of the RTC, namely - boghopper, benboss and alex-de-beta for the ongoing support/p*ss taking

Well this old bike is still giving me surprises and while I'm waiting on the cylinder re-bore and new piston, I thought I should look at how much crud was hiding in the tail pipe. Not to be disappointed, the tail pipe decided to cough up a couple of peanut sized chunks of pure carbon. So I know there is more in there somewhere. took off the expansion chamber too of course and it was not as bad ( I think) but the engine (when it was together) would belch 2 stroke smoke from all angles when it first started up. Could be that this carbon was what was causing the detonation during deceleration? Something was definitely going on in the cylinder. (see pictures below) …

Hi, first post, other than the introductory post in the other forum. I am in the process of getting my TY250 in good running order. In the process of checking the timing and the points gap, I notice that the points don't seem to open at all, no matter how they are adjusted. What am I missing? The bike starts on the first or second kick and runs fine up to half throttle. (I just installed a new carb and ditched the autolube pump, so I have some smoothing out to do. But I wanted to dial in the ignition before I go too far messing with jetting.) Mystified.

Hello Everyone, I just posted my intro a few days ago, and in part of that intro I showed my current project, my son's TY250. My question regards the flywheel on the TYs. This TY is a 493-200127, which makes it a 1977 vintage. Were the flywheels made extra heavy for them, and are they distinguishable from other 250 Yamahas of that time frame? I ask this because somewhere around 1992 or 93 my son bought this bike. He rode it for a while until one day it quit on him, no spark. My brother-in-law and I came to the conclusion that it was a problem with the points an no matter what we tried, could not remove the flywheel. I recall we messed up a wheel puller in the pro…

I have no manual and plan to take my forks apart, clean them and then install the new "Magical" fork springs and adjusters that I just received from France. Does anyone know what the original spec. is for the amount of, or level for, the forks on this bike? I'm assuming that the spec. for oil weight is10w30 or 10wt (I'm 130lbs so a light rider)? The springs and adjusters did not come with any info. so I'm assuming that I set the adjuster length so that the combination of the adjusters and the new springs match the length of stock springs? Thanks for your help.

Hey everyone this is my first post so I hope I am in the right area. I just recently acquired my TY80 that my Dad bought for my sister and I when we were kids. It has been well over 12 years since it has been touched so I don't really know where to begin to get it started again. I don't even know the proper mix of fuel/oil I would need to run it. I lack the knowledge and tools to tear into it. Thought about taking it to a dealer but don't want to fork out too much cash for something I possibly can do myself. Here are a couple pics of my bike. A little beat up from me wrecking a couple times but not too bad of shape. Not even sure of the year but from others I have seen si…

A good few years back (about 5-6 years ago) I sold a TY Majesty (mini iirc) on eBay, and I'm looking to trace the bike just out of interest to see what's happened to it. I'm hoping the owner's on here. Here are some definable details: - The bike was located at my parents house in Bradford - Engine was a 125cc bored out to 175cc - The bike sold on eBay for ~£940 - The person who bought the bike sent his son to collect it - There were no decals on the tank at the time if i recall correctly Would love to find out what's happened to the bike so if the owner recognises the above details please get in touch. I have some images somewhere I will try to dig them out so eve…

Hello, I'm new to this and I posted this in the wrong place, so i'll try again. I have just bought an'85 TY250 mono and when the engine is warm either on overrun or light load, you know how they only fire or pop erratically well each time it "pops" there is a loud metallic knock. Is this normal because I thought something was going to let go! Any help would be much appreciated, thanks Mike.

I'm restoring a '74 250 and when I disassembled it I noticed that the rear mud guard is completely worn through on the left side from the tire rubbing it through the years. I've tried to get it centered better than the original holes will allow but the tire still rubs. Anyone one experience this and if so what did you do? I've seen used mud guards on eBay and some of them have the same wear as mine. I'm interested in any suggestions or solutions will be appreciated. I have no problem modifying if necessary. Thanks in advance.

Help, every time I think I could have fixed my ty175 I then do a trial on a warm day, like today, and it starts to cut out,no spark. As far as I know I have checked or replaced every thing that could go wrong so now it looks like I will purchase an electronic ignition. So the question is should I go for the one sold by Trail and Trial or the one on the Majesty trials site, looking at them they dont look the same and from the spec they give different advance curves.Anyone got any advice? please. Just wondered what oil you were all using in your gearbox ? What weight and what brand ? Fully synthetic or mineral ? I use ATF fluid in my Beta to good effect and was wondering if anybody uses this in their TY 175? All opinions welcome Gareth
