Hi All. I have a yamaha TY175 fairly local to me, which from pictures looks fairly tidy.. I want a bike i can use and not worry too much about cosmetic condition but don't want a rat. The bike in question hasn't been used for 10 years. The seller started it up today and said it is running really well. Now if it hasn't been used for a long time i heard that the engine seals harden and although it may run ok for a few weeks it more than likely going to be a problem in the not too distant future. Hello esteemed, revered and acclaimed masters of mechanical know how! i have found tillerman6's posts/replies enlightened learning and would like to thank you all for your input. I am looking at buying some exotica parts for my TY175, seeing exchange rates are favourable for me at the moment. I am tossing up in deciding between a WES pipe or CDI conversion. What should I go for first, what is the better of the two for bang for bucks? My engine is standard otherwise at present. I was thinking the ignition may pay benefits overall, and the pipe, where does this improve power, more mid range to top end? Appreciate anyone who has first hand experience with these parts.

My TY175 has the side stand coming off the left hand foot rest plate. Perhaps someone could explain the science behind an airbox, and why a simple air filter isn't adequate enough. I have a 76 TY175 and have read on the forums here that the stock airbox does not provide adequate flow and should be "opened up". After taking a close look at my airbox I agree it could benefit from some extra venting but am considering removing it all together in exchange with a filter - no box at all. As this seems all to simple I pause to wonder why it isn't more common place? Is there some science involved with the airbox or what?? Thanks from a newbie!

I have a couple of TY 250 ( 2A and 1B ) and I am pretty sure that I could do better with the air intake. I run Mikuni round slide ( std VM 26mm ) with the exhaust is clean on my rider and a KT250 motocross silencer will be install on my project. I finaly found the correct jetting on the Mikuni VM, now low end and midrange torque are a lot better than with the small 26mm Mkuni of the B model and the poor KT carb from the A model, and throttle response is quick and predictable. But, I think that the air flow is not as good as it could be, so I am thinking changing the standard air filter system. Availability is not so great in Quebec and I don't want to order 265 thousand …

Im in the process of building a replacement airbox for my TY250E, so I have bought a standard TY foam filter to get an idea of the size required. I needed to make a new cage for the filter (the wire mesh bit which goes inside the foam to keep it's shape) and had looked at various very expensive sheets of wire mesh down at the local Halfords. Anyway, the answer was staring me in the face (well hanging off a tree actually). Go down to your local pet shop/wildlife store and have a look at bird feeders. Can anyone tell me where hose from rear of carb on exhaust side should be routed? Bike is 250c & standard vm26ss mikuni Appears to connect to the emulsion jet & I assume this is the air valve mentioned in the carb specs, at the moment the hose is approx 100mm long & have looped around front of carb to keep from being kinked shut What effect does this have?

Hi all, Im thinking of upgrading my old sammy miller fuel tank/seat unit and was wondering if anyone knows where I can get an alloy tank from?

Has anyone tried an alternative front wheel for TY250 mono? As I have a gold one which is rotten and beyond repair I tried to get some new Z spokes but they no longer make them, has anyone tried a DT wheel etc to pick up the lug on the fork bottom.

My Pinky is going to have a full stripdown and service at the end of the month, two names spring to mind for the engine work...Nigel Birkitt or Mick Andrews. I know NB is still about cause I saw him at a trial on Saturday, but what of Mick Andrews?? Anybody got any contact numbers?? cheers guys

You certainly have to be careful buying bikes on E-bay.If the special Fantic wasn't enough, this guy's trying to sell a TYZ with no airbox or cooling fan. Hi there ......... I was glad to see a couple of posts on the site from last year regarding the Whitehawk TY models. A friend of mine (without internet access) has just got his son an 80cc version on approval, but is concerned about the lack of spares availability and suitable tyres. I was just wondering if anyone had managed to track down any sources or further info? Mick Whitlock of Hampshire and JK Hirst of Bradford were mentioned ........... were they ever tracked down and tested?? This tank just came up for sale and the guy only wants 100 bucks for it. i was thinking of it as a spare but i am out of my depth in assessing the rust damage on the underside of the tank. the seller says it has pin holes leaks and will need work but i think it looks in ok condition other than the outside rust? if that rust went all the through then would it need to be welded and would this strip off the last of that nice paint? .Hi All. I'm think I am going to purchase this bike...Link Below...I am wanting a TY250 mono and thought this was good value. The tank decals are wrong but I've also noticed seat looks smaller than normal and also some of the engine bits like grey cover and silver bit up the top of engine looks different to all the bikes I've seen on google. I've been told it is an 86 which is want i want and was going to change the tank decals but now I'm not so sure if this an 86 or if a lot of the parts are wrong? Any help would be appreciated. Came to fit a new rear tyre to the pinky today. When i finally got the knackered tyre off found that the rim was very badly corroded. Outwardly it looks perfect but around the rim locks the alloy has corroded and just flaked off. Got it back to bare metal but the rim is probably only half the thickness that it should be in that area. Bugger and twice bugger So two options 1. get a good second hand wheel. Doubtful as i have a spare wheel and that is just as bad plus the last mono i had also had the same problem although not as bad as this one. 2. get the hub rebuilt onto a new rim.
