Twinshock

I was marking a board at the local mid wales trial yesterday and after seeing what must have been a million Gas Gas's come through and couple of guys on twin shocks came through...one was a Ossa with some very trick looking yokes, billet type alloy jobs, looked like the Scorpa ones...all in all a very sweet sounding and good looking bike. The next was a TL125 which again sounded very sweet, that had a very nice alloy tank sprayed blue and silver, both bikes really took my eye!. My point being now I can see why these boys must spend what must be a huge amount of money on old bikes.....there was more folk looking at these bikes than all of the rest put togethor, it was gr…

A 'Which Bike' test of the 1978 Monty 247 which I now know was called the 247C, the 'C' standing for competition. So it must be suitable for trials I guess cota 1.pdf

Having found a rather sweet (read: immaculate) Sherpa 125 my major concern is tyres. They use a 17". Before I commit myself I need to know whether these are readilly available?

Hello, I'm currently restoring and early Puch engined Dalesman. Can anybody tell me how many teeth the front sprocket should have? The original is missing. Also the rear rubber drive damper is somewhat past its best. I've trawled the Internet but can't find one anywhere. Any ideas? It's a Puch rear hub setup. Thanks! Martin.

Having bought a Ty 175 earlier in the week I have now bought an old H reg Mont,it looks exactly like the one on p70 of vol 2 of 20yrs of twinshock trials - with Dave Rowland riding it. Its in a bit of a state,having been left out in the rain for a while,but its complete apart from an air filter and a few little bits.The engine wont turn over,but I'm not worried about rebuilding the engine except for knowing the best place to get bits from and are they easily available? What are they like to ride,will I like it compared to my TY250 twinshock ? Is the gearbox a 4 or 5 speed ? Hi all I currently compete on my mar and this winter will be taking a close look at the cylinder, piston, rings etc and clutch to freshen up. What do you suggest i use for the clutch, surflex?, barnetts?, what springs etc, any suggestions for lightening the pull. Any porting alterations or better alternatives over the tarabushi pistons / sleeves. Just looking for your experience and suggestions. I using the ossa works manual for specs. just as a side note i've raked some rock shocks to the 1976 position, lightened the bike a bit, lowered the pegs and fitted a 28 mm oko, not interested in fitting a reed case. cheers bob

I've got the above mentioned bike in what I believe to be classic Ossa green, it's still running, just needs a bit of a clean-up; I've got the original handbook, MOT certificates from the 70s and, obviously, the registration document - I'm only its second owner. I've decided it's time for the old girl and I to part ways but don't have much idea of how much to charge for her; I've tried to have a look around to see how much they're going for but she must be rarer than I thought as I can't find one for sale! Can anyone give me a ballpark figure at all? Thanks guys!

I recently purchased a 74' TY250 which the prior owner rebuilt the forks. The forks feel very soft and offer a very flat rebound feeling. I decided to rebuild them again since the stanchions are rusty. I ordered new replacement stanchions and new aluminum damper rods "including all the factory works modifications" 🙂 for what that's worth. I also ordered a set of OZO Pro Trials rear shocks (340mm and set up for a 230 pound rider). I am looking for a set of replacement fork springs and possible rebound springs (if necessary) that will work with the above setup and my weight and I am having trouble locating them. BJR doesn't have any stock on fork springs at …

The skid plate for my 74 TY250A is missing. B&J Racing has aftermarket plates, but the owner got hurt and is unable to ship. Are there other options for a skid plate, possibly from a different bike that will fit, or aftermarket that will fit with a little modification? Thank You Glenn

I rebuilt my forks with the magical dampening rods, magical springs, and adjustable pre-load bolts. I added 167cc of 10 wt. fork oil. I set the adjuster at minimum 20mm, and the fork caps add approximately another 28mm of preload (around 48mm total). I weight 225 with gear on, this is the reason I felt a little more pre-load maybe ok. When cycling the fork with no spring and fork cap off there is a sucking sound of the oil, sounds like it is getting some air. Is this common? The dip length maybe different with the magical dampening rods as the length is different than the stock rod. Suggestions for fork oil amount? General suggestions? Thank You Glenn

Hi im interested in adding a 1979 montesa cota 250 to my collection i remember my cousin having one back in 81 and it seemed a stonking bike , really zippy revved well? would this be badged as a 247 cota or a 249??? were they any good i remember it being superier to my 76 ossa at the time though i suppose it was a much newer model better tech, etc!!! only real problem i suppose is actually finding a good one only ever see 248 /349's and earlier 70's cotas but never late seventies 250's cotas WHY? imho the above bike looked stunning! but this was 26 yrs ago!!!
