Twinshock

I had a good day at the Stafford show yesterday, reasonable selection of twin-shocks to look at and took a few pictures which people might find interesting ...arun1664 flickr Regards, Mike

Has anyone tried riding trials on a KT250 using only three of the six clutch springs? I've done this with a couple of TY250 twinshocks and it works out very nicely. Before I try it on my KT, has anyone already tried it?

Can anyone give me any suggestions what bike uses a simple 'bung' type petrol top of roughly 41mm diameter. The top I got with the bike is of a hard rubber/artificial rubber material with a plastic top, this has Chinese or Japanese style writing on it but no-one seems to know what it comes from. I am pretty sure its from an obscure bike oil tank or petrol tank. Unfortunately this is too worn to seal, hence the car cap I am using. Alternatively has anyone any suggestions what I could use - or modify to use as a top. I have just machined the original top for 2 O rings but am still not happy with the seal on this. I have been using one of those emergency car petrol ta…

Hello.. A Mildrewism. I don't bloody belive it. A lot of Mr Schreibers old bikes popping up all over California thesedays What do you think...! http://www.ebay.com/itm/1972-OSSA-MAR-formerly-Schrieber-owned-AHRMA-Trials-TL-RL-TY-Mick-Andrews-SS-1-/280969804102?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item416b1af946&vxp=mtr 1972 Ossa MAR Trials machine in need of resto. Non running. Formerly owned by world Trials Champion Bernie Schrieber. A good friend of mine Steve Elliott's Father bought 3 bikes from Bernie when he lived in LA Canada, California in the late 1970's and this is one of them. Note that all cables are …

  6. Just thought I'd drop a quick line here to thank the guys at In-Motion. Was having issues trying to source the correct cable for my Cota 247C. Was on the phone for 20 mins today whilst the poor guy at In-Motion went thru the possible cable Montesa permutations (lots!) and even went and got a bagged up cable up to measure the free cable for me, on the one we thought should fit, may not of been correct, he wasn't to know before opening it. Great service and thanks PS...now if you guys could open a well priced Trade Motor Factors near Diss with '30 minute vans' I'd be in heaven...

Hi everyone. My Dad has bought a Yamaha TY175 and is currently rebuilding it. It looked as if it hadn't been cleaned for about 5 years, so he is cleaning and polishing along the way. He bought it cheap from Ebay, and although it was a runner it was a bit of a mess. To my mind it rode quite well, even with the gearing much too high, slick tires and rock solid rear shocks. We are a puzzled though, because of some of the bits. It has magnesium hubs which (to me) says it might have been a special model, or were these fitted as standard? The side panels are missing, and the exhaust is completely different to the others that we have seen. ON the plus side though it has…

Hi, I' am looking for someone that can manufacture custom made sprockets to my Panda. The bike has a Franco Morini engine, the shaft looks very similar to the one from Fantic's 125 and 200 Minarelli engine but is different in geometry. Any resources as I need just 3 sprockets with 11 teeth for a 428 chain? I have just now a used 11 teeth and a used 13 teeth which comes from a Swedish 125 Monark which had used that engine too. Left to right: - section through the front sprocket, - front sprocket 12 teeth with right shaft diameter but for 50cc Malaguti/Aspes for a Moped chain, - front sprocket 13 teeth for F. Morini with inner dimension, - front spr…

Does anyone have any good advice on fitting a tubeless 4.00x18 rim to a Sherpa rear hub, 36 hole?. eg where to get a suitable rim, could a Montesa type rim be fitted as the Sherco system doesn't seem to hold air for any length of time when used hard, any pitfalls to be aware of?. Thanks. PS I've just found an earlier post on this subject with good info from Nigel Dabster. What type of Yamaha hub do you mean Nigel, it must presumably be a 32 hole setup for the Sherco rim?.

This is my first post so hello and apologies if this is a much repeated question. I've done some searching on the forum but thought I'd ask directly: I would like opinions please as to what would be the best 70's twinshock bike to run from a spares availability point of view. I'm guessing it'd be TY 175 / 250 but I'd consider Italian or Spanish too if I can get bits. For peace of mind I would like to know that I can get most engine parts and if not able to get O/E, at least find a cross reference for bearings and other cycle parts. I owned a few twinshocks in the 80's and having just come back to trials I can't resist the look / nostalgia of the twinshock era bikes. …

Hi All, I've just purchased a 1979 Cota 349 as a first foray into the world of classic trials, after years of motocross and enduros. The bike had been laid up for a few years and the owner claimed that it had been completely rebuilt (whatever that means) previous to this. After putting new oils in the primary and gearbox and fresh fuel in the tank, it fired up, second kick, but it seems very rattly! So rattly in fact that its a bit emabarassing riding it in my back garden! The noise seems to be mostly from the top end, possibly piston slap and small end, but its hard to tell. Should this engine be mechanically quiet, or is a bit of rattle normal? If its not normal the…

hello, I'm returniung to trials after retiring 20 years ago at the age of 18 !!. Having spent 20 years racing modern motorcross and enduros its time to return to trials. However the decision has been made to ride twinshocks as these were the bikes I remember, and I have recently switched to classic scrambling and just love the atmosphere that seems to revolve around the older bike fraternity. Having obtained a couple of Montesa 242's one has done next to nothing so will be kept for best, the other has done more work but still tidy. The opinion on these bikes by others seems to be that they are a bit fragile and spares are very hard to find. Having rode them a few times t…

Hi I am looking for some original black VF mudguards in good second hand condition. My Father had a trials special in the 1970's, and He had four inch ones up front and looks like five and a half at the back. We still have the original mudguards, the front might still be useable, but the rear one needs replaced. I know these have been out of production for a long time so not the easiest to get. Any help will be very appreciated.
