My Montesa Cota 348 (1978) has allways worked fine without any problems until yesterday but now there's something wrong with the intake. The carb is Amal 2627, and I haven't done any changes to the standard jets and settings. The engine works poorly with low rpm's and I can't find good idling with low enough rpm's. I can set the throttle top screw so that the engine revolution at idling is high but can't get my target speed for idling. The engine will stop when I lower the rpm's. Ofcourse I've tried to turn the air screw left and right but without succes. When I turn the throttle grip at no-load operation the engine revolution increases normally but when turning the gr…

Hi folks, I would like some feedback in regards to rear shocks. I have restored a couple twin shock bikes, and I ride vintage trials. But I will be honest and say, I really don't know the difference between good shocks and bad, or what they should be doing, besides holding up the seat. Or I should say, I'm not a good enough rider to tell the difference when I try different ones. What should a good pair of shocks do on a twin shock trials bike? What is the difference between a pair of rebuilt 70's shocks and a pair of $300.00 modern shocks, designed specifically for trials? I fully understand that you get what you pay for. But what am I looking for? I'm not looking for …

I have a little slice of land with some good riding potential and want to make my B25 really quiet with minimal loss of low/mid power. I started to build a glass packed silencer for behind the seat stay tube (for stock header) and now see resonators being used before muffler. I would like to hear something about your experiences. I can bend and splice tubes so building from scratch is no problem and I would rather get this done before paint, Let me (not) hear what you have! 1981 248 Montesa, same bottom end as 349. I’ve owned since new, got rebuilt about 15 years ago, done little since. It’s been a few years since I rode it and can’t remember if it always sounded like this but I think not. Any thoughts as to what this rattling is from those of you with better memories or bikes that do/don’t make this noise? Thanks. Hi there. Has anybody sucssefully re-packed the silencer on their two stroke ? Is it possible to over pack it and so reduce the breathing of the exhaust? What is the best material to use? Where can I get some? Any hints or tips on this matter would be appreciated. The end of the back box IS detachable Thanks Frank

A little background: Me- 6ft. weight 175lb with gear. Bike- 1970 Montesa Cota 247 with unknown brand of rear shocks. The shocks can be adjust, but I can't turn the adjuster. See photos. Skill level- beginner. where- riding in vintage trials competitions in woods with a lot of uphills and downhills. Goal- keep getting better and score more points. Budget- unfortunately tight. I don't want to spend more than 200GBP include shipping to USA. At first I was intrigue by the OZO "Expert" shocks. The price is 90GBP before shipping and they seems good upgrade for trial competitions. Then I start reading and found out a world full of…

I have a pair of Rear Shocks for my SWM that I'm not able to identify (see pic.) Each have a hose fitted on it of about 150mm in length. The end of the hose is plugged. There seems to be no pressure in the hose. Does anyone know these schoks and what these hoses are good for? (if of no use I would like to remove them)

The chrome springs of the original Betor shocks are badly rusted so obviously I have to get new shocks for my Montesa Cota 348. What shocks work quite well but are not very expensive? How important is the rebuildability? I think it's however quite expensive for me to get the shocks rebuilded abroad and I suppose the finnish shock repairmen don't have spare parts for this kind of shocks.

Hello On an old 349 I'm picking up in a few days the rear shocks can be disassembled, but depsite that and some fresh oil there is no damping... No idea if they are original or not, but does anyone know anything about such things? I assume there are not many makes you can actually take apart easily. Thanks for any help! Steve
