Pre-65 Bikes

  1. Started by mcman56,

Is there a recommended process to make a C15 not a big oil leaker? When running, my C15 leaks oil on to the bash plate and then to the ground so it is unclear where it is leaking from. I don't see any obvious leaks from gasket areas. After parked for a couple of days, it starts to leak which I believe is wet sumping. All check balls and springs were replaced but during the rebuild most everthing was corroded so the condition of the ball seats is unknown. There is a tube fitting on the head which I connected to the oil tank so there is no real breather...is this correct? The frame has a right side kick stand that would seem to make the leaks worse with all of the ven…

  2. Hi Guys Thinking of building a Trials Bantam/ Cub & my first issue is front frame modifications. Before I decide which way to go I thought that there must be members out there who have already been down this road. Headstock angle I have a D10 front frame & want to sharpen the headstock angle, been advised to change the front down tube for a C15 tube which is one inch shorter. What headstock angle are we trying to achieve? Please suggest how best this can be done Engine mounts It's usual to move the engine mounts to the left to aid the chain run with a Cub Engine in a Bantam frame, Does anyone have the details? Also what other front frame mod's should I be…

I am considering building a bantam for pre 65 trials, what is the standpoint on eligibility of four speed bantams, I know that they were not made before 67 so how come I see them in some big pre 65 trials ?? what is the standpoint of the scottish two day, the manx two day and the the yorkshire classic club ? (these are the organisers I would most likely be entering trials with). want clarification before I start spending my few quid (I am a yorkshire man !)

I wonder if someone could tell me how to get the little clutch operating pinion off the clutch lever, I know its threaded onto it and I've had a go at trying to get it off but it wont shift. Is there a trick to it or maybe its a left hand thread? The clutch lever is the one that sits behind the kickstart sort of vertical in the right hand case (timing side) its a very sloppy fit as there seems to be no bushing in the worn alloy case , any suggestions on how to correct the sloppy fit? any advice greatfully accepted.

Hi all, Will kindly ask you for some tips or guidance where to find a skilled workshop who might be able to cut gears for 1-3rd gear, one off for pre-unit gearboxes? (not for Burman GB11/GB47 ) Cheers, Pat

Since my little chance meeting with a post at the Hanbury scramble I have a fair bit of spare time on my hands at the weekend, and no, this does not mean spending quality time with the wife christmas shopping. Was thinking about putting a BSA unit into a Bultaco or Fantic frame, so has anyone got any tips or pointers as to the best direction to take? Does anyone have any photos of similar projects? I simply want a build a cheap (ish) bike and ride in local trials, so not worried at all about eligibility etc for the flag ship events. If anyone has done this before and I'm sure people have, what makes the best combination in terms of frame and engine? Thanks in advance…

I need to drill a hole in the rim of the front wheel for the rim lock, how do I work out exactly where to drill it? I've been told the correct position is four spoke gaps behind the tube valve in the direction of forward travel of the wheel, thoughts please gents.

Hello, im building a BSA Bantam D1 rigid trials bike and im at the stage of welding on some modern fold-able foot pegs to it. looking at where the pegs should go and the original ones are way too far forward, ive looked at my TY175 and they are now (after they have been moved back to improve balance aka Sammy miller type bolt on brackets) 25% from the rear axle and 75% from the front axle. Is there a magic measurement/percentage to give the best weight balance? Any suggestions or photos of your own mod that works would be great! Thanks Owen

Hi All, Project Bantam is coming along very slowly. I'm now looking for a 3rd Kickstart after the first 2 i made failed. I've seen several pre65 Banatms with spangly folding kickstarts (usually off other bikes). Anyone got any ideas as to what fits? I'm struggling to find a 3/4" splined version of anything Cheers Chris

I'm in a fortunate position where I have a rigid pre unit frame and a 350 goldstar engine and gearbox. This is at the planning stage and would appreciate any suggestions. Also is it worth it? I could sell the lot and get a b40 special. I'm in the midlands and will attend a bmca trial to see what's occurring.
