Pre-65 Bikes

  1. Started by nigelog,

Front wheel chrome is rough on my C15 trials and I have been looking for alternatives, forks are B44 clamp type at bottom of fork leg did any japanese/ european manufacturers ever use a 40 spoke alloy rim in 21" that I could change to I can find a lot of alternatives in 36 hole, and have toyed with the idea of lacing the 40 hole drum to a 36 hole rim, but sourcing the odd length spokes may be a problem any pointers appreciated

Planning to rebuild a C15 to trials spec. Is there any value in pushing the engine out over 250cc which I believe you can do with a Triumph piston or is it best to use normal oversize.

  5. Sadly as yet no news is bad news and no sign of either the stolen van or the pre 65 parts that were inside has been recieved so not looking good and sadly it is beginning to look as if these were possibly stolen to order which is an option that not only saddens me but deeply worries me as Classic and pre 65 Trials riders i have always thought were a good bunch. In a previous post i informed as many as i could about Alan Whitton having his van stolen and that inside the van was the Bantam rolling chassis he had on show at Telford as a showcase for the parts he sells. Alan didnt have any photos at the time of this but someone has kindly responded to our request for a piccy…

"I heard a rumour, it was just a rumour..." great song btw. Siouxsie & the Banshees... Sorry back to topic. Does anyone have any news regards tubed tyres, are they being phased out? I understand stocks of tubed IRC's are far and few between. Would be interested to understrand the options, tube in non-tube tyre, tubeless??

  7. Started by old trials fanatic,

Sorry to post this in this forum but i've just had a call from a distraught Alan Whitton who this morning has had his van stolen a white Transit connect LWB reg NC 56 KKN now Alan is less bothered about his van because insurance will sort that out but inside was his Bantam rolling chassis that he had on his stand at Telford show along with some Triumph Tiger Cub heads and various parts. Alan doesent have any photos of the rolling chassis and needs some for the Police so if ANYBODY has any piccys at all of the Bantam frame from Telford show could they please either post them on here or let me have them and i will forward them to Alan. Obviously if you know of anybody off…

Hello all, Been having a nosey round this awesome corner of the forum for some inspiration and advice. As a direct result of my mate Petorius' purchase of a Tiger Cub project i am now the proud owner of a Bantam project. I'm not new to the world of bikes (i'm on 6 and counting) and projects but i am somewhat new to the world of trials and in particular pre 65. The sorry looking pile of parts currently consists of a D3 1956 swingarm frame, a 1959 D7 engine, a chrome tank, and not a lot else. One thing i have found is a casting on the underside of the head "GT100B", i was led to believe that the engine had a Todd centre plug head, i was wondering if this casting corres…

I spent a very enjoyable afternoon in the workshop today doing a dry build of my HT5 gearbox with the new gears as supplied by Mick Ash.All fitted together beautifully, and was a joy to put together - till I got carried away and mounted the new Jawa speedway clutch to the end of the mainshaft..... Its too long by around 10-12mm,so the outer cover of the clutch fouls the end of the mainshaft. So my question is,from memory Sammy Miller used a shorter mainshaft to narrow his bike down. What were the standard lengths of shaft ? Mine is 1 and 1/16" of an inch from the end of the clutch splines to the very end of the thread. There is room to cut the end off the shaft and put a bit…

  16. Started by yeogene,

I have come across a BSA motorcycle that the current owner believes is a mid 60' BSA MX motorcycle. It is almost all there (in boxes of course) how do I tell which model it was? I believe the engine is a 441 from my limited BSA knowledge. The tank is alloy with a Blue stripe, seat looks like a trials seat. No lights or indication it ever had lights. Did BSA make a trials bike in that era? I am looking for a 60's vintage BSA/ Triumph/ AJS for vintage competition. Has any done a BSA MX to trials conversion? Does it make sense? Thank you in advance Doug yeogene@yahoo.com

Hi Have started the rebuild of a 1964 BSA B40 and have 2 questions 1st the bike has a high level front pipe from s/miller but needs a new rear part of the exhaust, has anyone had the silverback exhaust of e bay http://www.ebay.co.u...=item27cdc599c6 or do you have any other surggestions. Having spent a small fortune on the engine up to now and still not running would like some help with engine oil, what is the best full sinthetic you can use in the old thumper, eg 20/50 full or part sinthetic. thanks simon

Hi there Back again with more questions Got the chance of a bored out Cub barrel but don't know which piston to use? The Barrel is 68mm from 63mm & I would like to avoid any issues with a change of stroke. Is there a straight replacement at 68mm? Thank's Frank
