Pre-65 Bikes

What would be involved in converting a road version tiger cub ready for trials? Is it cheaper to buy a road tiger cub and convert in to trials trim - or just buy one already modified off a well known internet auction site?

What a mare i am having with my tank off my Panther.I got a decent tank last year at the Stafford show(its one of those centre mounted trail bike type jobbies off a 250 bsa). So I had to manufacture some ali mounts to sit it on the bike,A bit of bashing of the lower surface allowed it to mount lower down.So I decided once I was happy to get it blasted and then paint it.So i dropped it off at the blasters and then my dad picked it up the following week. When I saw it i was horrified.they had dented it 3 times on the top and RH side.So after much moaning they at least gave me my money back.So I decided to leave it for last season and then get the dents knocked out in the c…

  4. Hello I am working on a D1 Bantam which has been converted to a rigid rear end, i want to increase the ground clearance and to my way of thinking, the best way to do it is basically cut the bottom of the frame off and weld it further up and thus moving the end up towards the tank etc. Has anyone got any suggestions or words of advise on this sort of thing. I appreciate its not to everyone's taste but its a spare frame and the bike needs to be a bit more usable or the project will die a death in the corner of a garage unless some new life is breathed into it! At the same time, we'll be improving the fork angle, any angles that are considered the "golden angle"? Thanks…

Looking at my increasing collection of Cub spark plugs that have virtually no wear (less than 8 hours use) but have been removed because they are 'sooted' up, I decided to take the plunge and invest in a Spark Plug Cleaner. Basically it is a mini bead blaster that plugs into a compressor air line. Before you respond, I am also taking steps to resolve my dirty plug habit! I note that the cleaning medium is cast iron balls rather than sand (silicon) and have ordered a spare bag as I have no idea how long it will last. Does anyone have any experience using one of these devices and/or any tips? (not spark plug tips!) If not, I'll let you know how I get on. These tools …

Has anyone tried the Mikuni off a Beta on a C15 or other Pre-65? The 26 mm size seems somewhat appropriate but I'm wondering if jetting would be a major effort.

Hi, am working on a 30C engine (similar to 8E) . Just put new mains in the crankcases, and drew the 2 crankcases together using longer bolts. Now the r/h crank web (Ignition side) is touching the inside of the crankcase. There were no thrust washers on the crank when I stripped it,and online diagrams show none present. What determines the 'end float' / centralisation of the crank anyway? Once I tighten the primary drive sprocket fully will that pull the crank away from the opposite case, a quick tighten has already moved it a little.... Thanks in advance, for any help to ease my frustration with this

  13. Started by brucey,

After stripping and checking my cub engine I was disappointed to find I had much the same running problems with not revving past 1/3 throttle and sooting up plugs on reassembly. Convinced I had a problem with my new 20mm Dellorto carb, I tried a friends 22mm Dellorto carb (from his 250 Serco Cub). This appeared to work much better. The engine revved pretty cleanly and the plug even appeared to go from black to straw colour! I must admit we didn't do an extended test due to time constraints but the bike was vastly improved. Bob at UPB kindly exchanged my carb for the larger one. The only difference is that my new 22mm carb has a 100 main jet and the main j…

I have now removed the previous topic relating to this. There are certain parts of things that, from information received from multiple sources, do not stack up. As the two parties in question are now in contact and will, hopefully, resolve the matter amicably there is nothing to be gained from continuing the debate.
