Photos here: http://s1083.photobucket.com/albums/j381/Senor_Esteve/Talmag%20Trial%20Hungry%20Hill%20Aldershot%20January%202012/ Unfortunately it was not very bright under the trees and 1/40s at F2.8 doesn't really cut it for action shots; underexposed and blurred - but I included some anyway; its not everyday you see somebody showboating a Douglas.... NB I retain copyright, but PM me if you want an original 6Megapixel file; no charge, gratis.

Std brake shoes are 138mm o/d x 25 width Does anyone do a set of 140mmo/d x 25 mm shoes The i/d of the hub is slightly below 140mm(139.8) The brake is very vague and spongy so i thought a larger dia set would be better Any advice?? Marty D

What is the general consensus re heat dissipation. I am building a B175 engine for trials, I am using a modified Fantic 200 cyl head which has a larger finned area etc, they can get hot during trials in the warm months and they are centre plug head. On the Fantic they were black, just wondering is it best to paint or get blasted to bare ally. ?? I will be painting the barrel and using a Suzuki TS185 piston. Thanks in advance....

Hello, Can anybody specify the width of a Bantam D14 4 rear hub and/or specify the part number? Had got a hold of a Bantam rear hub to put in my trials Cub, with the idea it is a bit wider/stronger wheel. Ordered all the parts from CWC accordingly, build it up and now spokes are sticking out inside the rim for about 4-5mm... so am a bit baffled what went wrong. Hope someone can tell if my D14 4 hub is not what I bought if for (only have a bunch of Cub part catalogues) and suggestions for solutions? Thank you in advance!

  6. I am interested in building a B40 on a new frame and don't really fancy the Miller 'Hi-boy'. Does anyone know of another frame maker other than Cheney? I have a lovely Cub with a hand built frame that I believe was by Roy Burgess - is he still making frames does anyone know and how to get hold of him? Any help and advice appreciated!

  7. Hello Everyone, I've just taken on a 1959 Triumph 3TA barn find, and I hope to turn it into a trials machine. My sort of riding is just having a bit of fun on the white route, so I'm not after much competitiveness, but I am interested in keeping it period, and I'm hoping to do as little (if any) permanent modifications as possible. Here's some pictures of the bike in question: Triumph 3TA My first question is the hubs, before I get the bits to lace the planned 21" WM1 and a 18" WM2, what hubs would be appropriate? From reading around it seems a Tiger Cub front hub is common choice, do these come in 36 or 40 hole (or does it vary, if so, which is better?). With rega…

Hello, Further to the other 3TA thread, I have a question about shocks. I've had a read of all the other threads, and Falcon shocks are the ones I'm looking at getting, since they're made in England too, but what 'type' should I be looking at? Do I go for the pre-75 shock designed for limited suspension travel, or actual trials shocks? I'm looking at just the steel ones too. I also don't have a clue about what spring rate and length I should get. I assume it goes on rider weight etc, so I weight about 165lbs in trials gear. A quick google tells me a 3TA weighed originally 340lbs, original shocks were 11.9" long and spring rate 135lbs/in. Wild guess here, but ima…

I've just acquired a Bantam trialler, with a view to replacing the SY250 heap of engineering sh*te that I got the other week. The new steed is a 1969 D14/4, I understand, a bit heavier, like me, but at least the plug can be changed without removing the tank and radiator, and the float bowl removed without the prior removal of tank, rear mudguard, air filter/box, muffler, aluminium spreader plate, and gas shock. The frogs must be taking the pus. Back to the plot - I don't know what petroil mix to feed the Rooster on. I was using Morris' "Sport Action 2" synthetic oil in the sulking frog, but that is a lot different to the "Gloopy" stuff that we used to have 40 years a…

I am sorting a front hub to build the wheel. The spokes are small (2.5) guage. Has anyone fitted 3mm, or drilled the hub for bigger?? . Also what rim size are people going for (wm) . Thanks in advance...

Does anyone know where I can get hold of a fibre glass cover for a primary drive cover? I'm looking for one with a flat bulge (if that makes sense) at the crank end? SM Products sell some but they have a huge round bulge on their ones. Thanks

Hi there, have acquired a 19" rear wheel which appears to be from a lightweight British bike. Brake plate is marked TF Blumfield. I know they did some front hubs/brakes for Velocette Venoms but this is not off a small Velo.. Can't get any more info on 'net. Any ideas if it's something rare before I start hacking about and swapping to alloy rim etc.Pics here Thanks in advance, much appreciated. http://www.loydee.blogspot.com/

I have a pair of Cub wheels fitted into my Panther trials bike.Amazingly the front wheel is the same sizes brake as was originally fitted back in the 30's.After spending a few hours stripping the wheels down to dry the drums and brakes after our very wet and swampy trial last weekend I noticed the front wheel bearings are a bit sloppy one side. can any one supply the bearing sizes so I can purchase some ready to fit after our next swampy trial. Cheers

As many readers of Old Bike Mart may have seen, there is a proposal from the EU to drop the need for MoT tests for vehicles registered prior to the 1st Jan 1960. The Federation of Historic Vehicle Clubs are one of the consultees and have a questionaire on line to see what people feel about the proposal. Visit the FBHVC website or the survey on this webpage to cast your vote before the 10th Jan. It will be one less job each year for riders of vehicles that qualify. Something good to come out of an EU Directive? That will make a change!

When using the Norton Roadholder lower fork legs how are you anchoring the brake plate. Are you using a brake plate with a lug that engages in the slot between the raised alloy bars on the fork leg or a bolted on metal strip, presumably to the two bolts that secure the mudguard stay. If using a brake plate with a raised lug to engage in the fork leg, which hub/brake plate is most suitable.

I have been watching my Christmas pressie DVD of the 63 Scottish and at a minute and nine seconds in there is a London registered Cub with a frame I don't recognise, what appears to be an alloy silencer and suspension that seems to be about ten years or more ahead of its time - let's say it would attract comment if it turned up at some of today's pre'65 trials and probably be rejected. Many of you will have this DVD and some the event programme. Does anyone know anything about the bike and its rider?
