Pre-65 Bikes

Evening All During a day of riding on a family friends farm, we all tried to identify a bike which didn't have any clear branding on either frame or engine. All i've got is the description, no photographs as we we're all in the gear, sorry. A schoolboy sized bike, with a racing/mallard green and yellow striped single piece seat and fuel tank (metal fuel tank under fiberglass). The Engine was hung under a single tube down pipe from the head stock The engine itself is a rotary disc valve unit (looks like a 75-125 sized) with a czechoslovakian downdraft carb There is a right hand side rear brake system with crossover bar, similar to Sprite frames as i've seen on the …

Just collected my C15 back from Rupert Ratio,(AKA Dave Smith) its a Sportsman motor in a Victor GP type frame.I took it apart last summer to change the box ratio's to WD B40 ones, which were supplied by Dave. He had all the bits I needed, was well chuffed.Brought them back, shoved them under the bike in a box and nothing happened.Typical... Then a little while ago I had the brainwave to call Dave and ask him to sort it out for me. Which he has done, very quickly and for a very reasonable sum, he has rebuilt the gearbox, sorted out the clutch and various other bits like fitting a valve lifter arm after rebushing the rocker box and remembering to fit the camplate upside down s…

Does anybody know anything about this new frame/subframe/swingarm for a Triumph Tiger Cub from a company called Armac Design - I saw it in a classic motorcycle mag a few months ago. It seems to be excluded from some events (classic SSDT?) because of this, but I wondered where else it might be excluded?? Thanks.

I've seen pics of a few HT's in UK and European trials with these big squarish mags mounted on them. I thought maybe a BTH...but perhaps not? A more modern aftermarket electronic one (with a battery pack?) guys are using? I had a devil of a time sorting out my OEM Lucas competition item, which seems to by working well after one final overhaul. Just curious as to what is being used out there and advantages. Regards, Doug

Any thoughts on the ideal length, is there a magic number? Just in the process of building an Ariel short stroke and was just wondering if there was a figure to aim for. I seem to have a figure of 52 inches or is it 50?

Hi Guy's, I own a beautiful 1961 Matchless G3C that isn't running at it's best. I think it's the carb but before I go out and buy a new carb I wondered if anybody could recommend somebody in the midlands that would be able to tune my bike? It ias a AMAL MK1 Concentric carb, after about 5 mins of running it appears to run out of fuel and you have to tickle the carb again to be able to start it as if it is getting air into the carb from somewhere. I have a Domino fast action throttle on it and wonder if that contributes to the problem as when you open it up quickly it appears to jump straight to the main jet. Desperately want to get her running nice as at the moment she i…

Hi, I have a Bantam with Wico-Pacy-55 generator and ignition. All coils on the stator have been removed except the Ignition Coil at the top (with HT lead connected). My question is around where the (low-tension) current is generated.... - is it generated in the missing coils, that would presumably also have powered the lights - or is it generated in the Ignition Coil itself (i.e. does this coil generate the current, as well as creating a HT feed when the points open/close). The reason for asking is to understand whether I can forget the missing (lighting) coils, and just run with the Ignition Coil. Yes, I might go down the electronic ignition route at some stage, …

I'm thinking of moving into the 21st century and getting electronic ignition on my C15. I've looked at the various options and I'm thinking that the crank driven type is what I'll be going for. I don't need a battery or lights so it seems the easiest and best option. I've identified three that look suitable, the PVL from SM, Electrex World and Rex Caunt. The PVL is at least one that I've heard of and looks and seems decent quality, I can only seem to find them at SM though. The Electrex World is a good deal cheaper but seems less trials oriented. The Rex Caunt also sounds ok and has the advantage of parts of the kit being available separately but it's more expensive. Al…

What size taper roller bearing do you guys use for villiers services yokes, they did not have any and meriden is out of stock as well?

  17. Has anyone done this, any issues with fitting it in terms of chain alignment and rubbing the tyre?

  18. Started by b40rt,

Chain / tyre clearance on my B40 is minimal, I dont think the rear whel can be dished enought to give adequate clearance. Has anybody put a spacer between the sprocket and hub, then made new axel spacers to effectivly move the wheel away from the chain by a corresponding amount ? There is plenty of clearance to the right of he tyre. While I'me picking your brains, I've noticed that if I leave the bike with piston at TDC that it doesn't wet sump as quickly, is this something to do with where the oil pump positon in its stroke ?Thanks in advance for any thoughs / observations. Hello, my first post on here but been lurking around the forum for a while. I'm in the middle of restoring my 1962 C15T and have come across a bit of a problem. The rear wheel is quite a bit out of line with the main frame loop and after a lot of checking and measuring it seems to be that the whole swinging arm is out of line. The lug that the swinging arm spindle goes through is twisted over to the left of the bike compared with the bottom frame tube. I've found a thread on here with someone with a similar problem, in fact it looks exactly the same in the photo. Here is a link to it: http://www.trialscentral.com/forums/topic/27793-c15-frame-alignment/ All the brazing …
