This very unique home made trials bike has recently surfaced at a local trial in Connel Washington. It was built by Frank Theim of Idaho and uses a KX 80 bottom end mated to a very customized Hodaka cylinder and head. Apparently Frank made his own frame and almost everything else!

I bought an original 1986 Gas Gas Halley on tinternet. Matey said it was complete......but it wasnt, the silencer was missing I need to fabricate another one to match the original exactly. The body of the silencer will be hard anough to replicate the original . I also need to source some internal baffle pipe which i can run through the centre of the silencer. Does anyone know of a company or person selling any ? Is it available ? It would save me drilling hundreds of holes in a bit of pipe which would be pretty grim Ta

Decided to do an air cooled mono, after spotting a frame, tank and seat for an Armstrong at this years Telford Show. With only 80 ever made, it hasn't been the most straight forward renovation, but its getting close to completion. Everything mechanical has been done and its all running and riding.....however 2 parts have eluded the search. Its missing the airbox and sump shield. I have resigned myself to the fact that both will need to be made from scratch, unless anyone out there has anything they want to sell ? Some of you must of encountered thie before. I need to change the rear wheel bearings of a Mecatecno Dragonfly im restoring. The trouble is that the long spacer inside the wheel that the wheel spinde slides through is fixed into both wheel bearings.It wont budge at all. Id normally tap the bearings out with a long screw driver from the opposite side of the wheel. With this wheel the screwdriver just slides through and there are no ledges to get a purchase on. Any ideas. I dont want to have to resort to picking the bearing apart . LOL

I'm thinking of going the aircooled mono route. I'd like - 2 stroke, disc brakes at both ends, electronic ignition, not too exotic so that spares are available. Which is best? I've seen a Montesa 310 and a Fantic 305 for sale but don't know anything about either of them. Any info appreciated? I've also seen a Honda TLM220R - this only has disc on front - do later ones have F & R discs. My thinking is that I can ride the air cooled mono class at the "classic trials" and have a go at "modern trials" on the same bike. Any info/advice greatly accepted.

Hi all As anyone who has owned an early Beta knows (and has scars to prove it) the kickstart is very ordinary. Has anyone drilled and tapped the kickstart shart and fitted a later model kickstart?

Im restoring this 1986 GasGas 325 Halley at the moment and Ive run into a problem. The rear wheel around the bearing is cracked beyond repair. Weld would simply break at this stress point and in any case the metal does even take weld, particularly well. Welding is out of the question. It is a Nagesti 120mm internal diameter drum rear hub. Nagesti were absorbed into Akront. Merlins were fitted with 110mm Nagesti's so this is not good enough. Does anyone have any knowledge of other bikes that this rear hub was fitted to ? A friend's father has a can-am mono that he might sell. I don't know the year of it. Can anyone one give me any advice when looking at it. He says he has not started it in a couple of yrs. and it has sat most of the last 15-20 yrs. Only starting occasionally. Any problems with the mono can-am's. All I know about them is that they were made by Armstrong in England until 1987 and they had a Rotax motors. I know chassis parts will be difficult to find. Are these bikes competetive with other mono's of the day. Also, what size rotax motors were in these bikes? Thanks for any info you can give me. Cheers, Fergie.

While pottering around on the dunes with my son, my bike, a gas gas 125 has decided to kill itself. While in top gear (and thankfully on a straight bit of beach) the throttle seemed to jam wide open, with no response from throttle, clutch or kill switch (once I`d wrestled it to a halt.) After continuing to scream it then rapidly died. And surprise surprise it isn`t keen on starting, just sounds horribly rattley on the kick start. So my questions to you clever people are What caused this,what`s the damage likely to be and once rebuilt how do I prevent it happening again? I had just filled it with fresh fuel containing 63ml of putoline. Thanks, Jac…

hi any info on chapman bsa as just got mine out of shed after 9 yrs looking at v5 and frame no /engine no all match no 0618 not sure if it is no 6 or 18 the first keepers f lewis of worcester as reading forum they say only 20 were made

Does any body have any information on the 175 Chapman-BSA which was produced in a small batch, and used the Yamaha DT175mx engine.?Any help would be very much apricaiated, i know there where only around 25 made in total. jh

its a moto morini engine air cooled with manual clutch and four gears and a backwards kick, crank case inducted with a 14mm dellorto carb, does anyone know the engine model?, looked on various websites like harglo etc but nowt exact it looks like a very early one and i am worried about getting service parts etc, engine no is fgm30*000126

I posted a topic in yamaha forum asking if anyone knew where I could get the extended arm type clutch lightener for my TY250 but no joy, thought I would try posting it in aircooled mono forum as it seems to get a wider audience. A couple of people suggested making one but I don't have access to metal working equipment. I am sure that someone somewhere must be still make these in a little workshop as so many bikes seem to have them (except mine!) I have just finished restoring my TY back to it's former glory which I posted in the Yamaha forum recently and am looking for the clutch lightener to further improve the riding experience, and my skills!! Hi all, I have just purchased a TY250. When it arrived the numbers indicate its actually a 1986 TY350 frame and engine bottom end with a 250 barrel and head. What are the differences in the bottom end of the 250 and 350 engines? Do they use the same flywheel weight and gear ratios? For example I thought the 350 had a heavier flywheel? Regards, Peter.
