Youth Trials

On the 7th of June this year RMC will once again run the Mintex Trophy Trial in it's original format, Time & Observation for Schoolpersons. Open to A Class, B Class & ACU approved C Class riders the event will be run on a two lap format. The planned course will form a lap of approximately 15 miles & will provide a true Scott style test. Hi, My 9 year old is taking an interest in trials and I'd like to get him started on a reasonably priced, geared bike. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Just checked the ACU list for the A and B class nationals and it seems we will be back at Bracken Rocks in May. I've never seen two National events at the same venue in the same year before and is surely overkill? On the Plus side Scarborough's excellent IRC trial has made it into the list.

The tyres that came on my lads GasGas TXT50 Boy are pretty naff! Has anyone found any better replacements? They are 16" front and 14" rear.

A question to all you parents out there. My 13yr old daughter is showing an interest in learning to ride a bike and getting into trials, but as she has never riden any kind of motorcycle before I am not sure what best to start her on. Although she is tall, she is not very heavy or strong, so I guess lighter and easy to start is important. main thoughts / questions: 1) Clearly one of the auto clutch bikes would be much easier for her to learn on, but are they too small for a tall 13yr old, and would she out grow it too quick? - which are the best auto options for her size and lack of skill? 2) Are TY80's already too small for a 13yr old, or too restricted in what they…

Hi Guys I was just wondering what the sections were like in a National D class trial? Are they very hard? My lad is nearly 9, just upgraded to a GG Cadet 50 and fancies having a go at a national. Any advise or experiences would be appreciated Thanks Tom

On February 10, 2009, a new law called the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act went into effect. This law was created by Congress last August as a knee-jerk reaction to hazardous toys being imported from China (remember the Fisher-Price toy recalls). It bans all products sold for use by children which contain above certain levels of lead and phthalates. Our little un is getting on great with his 2008 beta 80 and i have'nt had any problems with the bike apart from the carbaration. I cant seem to get a consistant set up. Everytime i think its right it goes pear shaped. occasionally the bike races on tick over, occasionally suffers fuel starvation in a sections and has to be started on choke half way through a trial it then runs ok. To be fair if i clean the carb after every ride its better, but i cant help thinking, im missing something. I am using a 66:1 mix as recommended in the handbook and putoline oil and standard unleaded re-routed the throttle cable etc. Does anyone whos had beta 80's for a while have any ideas. Che…

Just to confirm that round one of the 2009 championship will be in the Isle of Man, the first time we've held a round since the early 90's, can't remember the exact year but I rode so must be a while ago!!! Anyway, just wanted to say that so far the planning is going really well and it looks like it is going to be a brilliant trial. The sections will be based in a large quarry in the middle of the Island and should provide a real good mix of sections. I am wanting to get my son a beta 50 or gas gas 50 (with gears) He is 8 years old and about 4`2 so i take it this would be a good starting bike. As for how much i am going to spend really just does depend on whats available and in what condition. I live in N.Ireland. If anyone can help i would really appreciate it..

The ACU have bowed to pressure and switched the Youth and Ladies national series to FIM rules for 2009. Hence Stopping is to be allowed.

Hi, my son seems to have some ideas about getting a motorbike to learn to ride, and I'm trying to get him to try go in the trials direction.. Could anybody give me some ideas of what would be a suitable bike sizewise for him (preferably at the lower end of the price scale..). He's 12 in mid-September, and is about average for his height, maybe a few cm more. Thanks, Kevin

Well done to Dai And Kay Bedford and the club members for putting on a great trial on a great bit of land with a good variation in sections. Yes it was tough, it is a British Championship after all! The breeding ground of future Dougie Lampkins! This trial justified the considerable expense many parents incur getting their offspring there. It can be frustrating travelling to a national and finding a more testing trial could have been ridden locally! It was great to see the top lads have a five without the trial being lost. The hard sections brought out some awesome rides.
