Hello all, I am new to this forum and (hopefully) about to buy my first trial. A friend of mine offered me his 2001 beta rev 3 250 for a good price and I am tempted to buy it. However he said that it needs some maintenance/repair and I am having troubles to estimate how much money and time this would require. According to him the following things need to be addressed/changed: - replace chain - clutch is stuck (though i found some solutions for that here in the forum) - Air and oil filter - spark plug - brakes need to be bleed - Suspension service I have no former experience with motos or engines in general but I am comfortable servicing my mountain bi…

Hi there, First time trials owner, first time poster. Just picked up an '01 Rev 3 in excellent condition and so far its been a blast. As I'm getting more and more familiar with it, I'm starting to compile a list of questions I need to ask sooner or later. This one is regarding the sag in the front suspension. I'm going to call it "static sag" which is bike-weight only sag, no rider... It seems like the portion of suspension between complete extension (wheel off the ground) and the static sag is very sloppy. In other words, if I pick up on the bars to unload the suspension, then set it down if feels as if there's zero resistance before the static sag engages. The rest of t…

Thanks for the help with info on the 2000 model pro and cons. Decided to pass on it because I just don't like USD forks. I have found an '01 250 and wondered if anyone could tell me an characteristics or things to look for on this bike. Help me one more time and I'll quit bothering you. Any tips appreciated because I'm going to buy this one unless there is a problem I don't know about with this model. Thanks for any help, there are just no trials ridrs where I live so there is nobody to ask.

I am looking at buying a 2001 rev 3 270 from a mates dad, I had a go on and I liked it a lot, when cold though the clutch has to be tightened up on the cable and then after riding for a while needs to be loosened off. Is this a major problem and what is the cure? When were hydraulic clutches introduced and can an after market one be fitted? I was looking at getting a 250 but I know the history of this bike from new and it has only been in a few trials so is in good condition and therefore would be a good buy i feel. Are there any problems to look for on this model or year of bike? I have ridden trail bikes but as this is my first trials bike I thought maybe a slow actio…

I need a new hose from airbox to mikuni carb and have seen silicon ones for 12/15quid or so listed for my bike. But looking further generic bits of silicon hose can be bought for a fiver, I've had a quick measure with callipers but before I take a flyer and hope I'm right does anyone know the exact hose dimensions I need to buy?

I'm just about to do a pre-purchase inspection and test ride on a 2001 REV3 200. Is there anything special to look out for with this bike? I am familiar with 2001 REV3 270 and the well known Beta problems with ignition stators and carby connector failures. What I'm after is any problems particular to the 200. I'm told that the bike has recently had new rings fitted and that the reed land needed trimming to remove a bump. Thanks

Hiya chaps, I bought my 2001 250 back in January 09, its my first what you would call modern trials bike after about a 15 year lay off. I was never convinced that it ran correctly, but had every intention of going through the bike bit by bit and thought I would get to the bottom of it soon enough. After all the usual stuff, carb rebuild, repack exhaust, change oil, plug etc, I still could not get the bike to rev under load. It would be reasonably fine on level ground pulling good 3rd and 4th gear wheelies no problem, but show it a decent climb or rock and all you would would get was the initial drive then the engine would just misfire and not rev any harder. I found myse…

Yesterday I had a chance to ride this bike for the first time after a year spent refreshing it. I discovered that it dosent feel all that much different than my 290 Evo. I really like the smooth power delivery of this motor however i would like a little more power. I would like to try to recover the power lost to high altitude. The engine easily loses 20% of its power at the altitudes i ride at. I am considering advancing the ignition as far as is safe or to the stop if possible. Anyone know how far it is safe to advance the ignition? It does have an extra flywheel on the clutch side of the crank. removing this would speedup the rpm spoolup. I could also shave the head to…
