I've recently heard, from two seperate sources, that the definition of a section boundary is no longer what it was. For ease of example I'll take a single route section, marked with blue on the left, red on the right markers. In the good old days, the blue designated the left hand boundary of the section and the red the right hand boundary. By definition, this meant that the boundary was the invisible straight line between each blue marker on the left, and each red marker on the right. Hi All, I've just returned to trials after 12 years away and brought a couple of shiney newbies with me. I think we need to look at the steps newbies have to go through and ask if there's a better way. The three of us have recently acquired bikes around November time. 2 of us are Cambs area, one is Gosport on the south coast. I had ridden many trials in the early-mid 90s and so had a fair clue as to what to do. My newbies were relying on me. Well the Bill got through it's first stage yesterday and is now to go to committee. It's on it's way. So John what EXACTLY is the ACU doing / going to be doing to represent the interests of it's license holders? A road based trial with 20 sections and 2 laps. Each rider has an individual start time. All the riders started at the correct time. After the 2nd lap has started 3 riders (riding together) get pulled by the police. He informs the competitors that until he has checked all the bikes they cannot leave the scene. All the bikes are checked and nothing is found to stop them continuing. The police allow the bikes to continue. Having just seen the final rounds results, is now the time to question the class structure? Those of you who know the riders in both the unit class and the brit special/twinshock class will have noted that all the specials riders are now riding in the unit class because they feel they are not competitive against the twinshocks, hence the guys in the unit class on standard bikes have no chance against the specials so they dont bother entering. IMHO i think these classes need tiying up, so folk know who and what they are competeing against. Splitting these classes into 3 should?? sort the immediate problem. In Feb 2005 i attended a one day ACU coaching course in Devon at my own expence, the course had nothing to do with how you rode a trials bike but more of the H.S.A, child protection, and legal side of things which was all very intresting. Next i get a little book in the post which requires that you spend 25hrs with an experianced trainer and then i can apply to become a ACU coach, now if i lived in yorkshire fine, but as i don't think there are any ACU coaches in the Southern centre, let alone on the IOW i'am a bit stuffed. Ok, time to give credit where it's due after some criticisms I have made on here re SACU licences. Just read on the SACU website that they're going back to £10 day licences for club and some nationals. Hopefully should attract occasional riders back into the fold, might even get out there myself... Now apart from the Pre65 elegibility issue which i have voiced before, which incidentally the ACU apparently have no position on?????, one issue that is affecting all of us whether you ride modern or like me "Classic Pre65" trials is the lack of observers. Almost all the events i have ridden in this year, my first year back at trials since 1985, have had a shortage of observers with usually 50% of the sections unmanned. Last Sunday there were only 3 yes 3 observers. Now to me this ruins the event. I've just renewed my trials registration for 2024 and the ACU have come back asking for a medical (because I'm over 70) and an eye test (because I am over 55, though never needed one before). They have to be filled out by a doctor and optician, which is obviously going to be an expensive business. Is this for real? Or another quirky mistake from the Sport 80 system? If it is real I think I will stick to AMCA in future as the cost and hassle won't be worth it for just a couple of trials a year.

Following on from the no-stop or stop British Championship issues is there a good way to communicate with and get the views of the riders and other interested people. Historically the meetings at Rugby to discuss such things are often poorly attended due to many reasons. A few are listed but I guess there's loads. It's too expensive to go. I am too busy to attend. If I go is it worth the effort. Will my views be taken into account as they are all old codgers. They only listen to what the top lads think. Hello, I am intending to start trials riding again. I haven't entered a competition since the 1980's and that was at a club meeting, I was never asked for a licence. The only licence I can find is the ACU Competition Licence international trials, is this the licence I need? I will only be doing club events. Thanks currently restoring a Montesa 349

Why does the ACU send out the hand book I have requested not to have it in any form (CD or Book) but they keep sending?

Not quite sure how many years its been since I had an ACU licence? maybe 4? so renewing it wasn't something I was particularly looking forward to doing based on previous renewals or new licences. I have been very impressed though at the new online system which from start to finish only took possibly 3-4 minutes tops!!! well done the ACU, easy to reregister, brought up all my old info (including a dodgy photo)and reapplying was effortless.

I must admit to being bored. I canot believe that everything in the ACU garden is rosy - never has been- never will be - but there are so many items for discussion and debate - and yet np posts? I never came into this for an easy time - so lets get some issues going - even if I live to regret it
