ACU Discussion

Does anybody have any names for anyone i can contact at the ACU. Myself and my father sent our 2009 applications of in the same envelope along time ago. We both got the usual email messages to say they were being done, my father received his but mine never arrived. Nobody is replying to the emails I've sent and I'm not usually free in the day to call so does anyone know whose the best point of contact in the licence department? Cheers

Coming at this afresh, I cant help but notice that the ACU gazette could be updated a little. A commendable update on the website, however could i please make a plea for a key or glossary ? Those that know, know, but those that dont find it really frustrating to find out. Entries such as CR, RI, RR, are great if you know what it stands for, but all i want to know is can i ride in it or not? That leads me to classes - yes, i fully accept i should RTFM, but its stopping my door from closing at the moment. I'm a beginner and frankly not that great, but i'm keen and will have a go. All i want to know is "can i enter", but under the list of classes this varies from "B" Cla…

As has recently been communicated to Centres, the Trials & Enduro Committee will be holding an Open Trials Forum at ACU House on Saturday 8th August 2009 starting at 10.30am prompt. Issues relating to the British Solo Trials Championship will be discussed at a separate forum at a later date. You are cordially invited to attend and put forward any views or suggestions you may have for the 2010 season. I notice that Guisborough have been given the date of 25-07-10 for the John Hardaker Trial. This date clashes with the Reeth 3 Day weekend, as I guess both Trials will be directed at the same riders somebody somewhere is going to loose out.

Just picked up this comment from a previous post about 'cheating' in a Youth A&B event .... I dont condone cheating of any description but you can see why this comment above is an issue. Nowadays there are a fair few of British youth riders riding under FIM rules in Europe and World events and then having to switch when in the UK. I am not arguing for or against FIM rules in this post, but would just like to hear the ACU's view on this subject please?

Possibly one for JC? I got Shirty's little Gas Gas report on the 2nd round of the Youth A&B. Okay I've been mega busy work-wise, but I never even realised Round 1 had taken place, let alone Round 2. I've always struggled getting results from Youth rounds and if these lads are the future of Trials in the UK then we need to be doing what we can to promote them in my opinion. Dave W does a great job with the Brit Championship - is there a Youth Championship equivalent I should be speaking to? i.e. someone who collates the results and sends them out?

Following concerns expressed at the recent British Trials Champ meeting where the T & E were asked to be more selective in the choice of eligible Youth riders, and also due to the fact that in 2006 there were two A Class Championships running in parallel, riders eligible for the Youth Class in the British Championship will be decided after the first 2 rounds of the 2007 A Class Youth Championship. Credit where credit is due! I applied for my licence and my two sons licences on the 28th of December and sent off the parental consent form on the same day, I received all three licences back today. Considering the time of year and the number of renewals that must be in the system, brilliant thank you.

Have any dates been set for National Clerk of Course seminars? And have the Claasic and Miller series dates been decided yet?

As you may or may not be aware the FIM changed the date of the World Trials in Japan last week

What a pleasant suprise to find the new look ACU SportMoto magazine waiting in the letter box today. The new size and the superbly written articles combine to make a magazine that really is worth having. I have to admit that I was not a fan of the old magazine and considered it to be a waste of licence/affiliation payers money, but this is good. Well done ACU. One small point for the next issue..... don't spoil it with too many pictures of JP

I believe the British Trials Championship forum went ahead on 12 Jan. What was said, decided, as there has been no mention of it since then. has anything changed or is it just a case of as you were.?

I am the Membeship Secretary for the Stratford-Upon-Avon club and one of our members has recently had a problem with his affiliation renewal and I thought that I'd maybe jog some memories It turns out that; through a genuine mistake (not the riders!) his application form wasn't processed by the ACU as it had not been signed by a club. He had ridden in an event and the ACU picked up on this. With the change of name to this championship I with others was concerned if there were to be many rule changes, I spoke to the acu stall at the dirt bike show, and as I understand, the rules are very similar to last year. They are to introduce a over 60s class ??. Class F. They will give oganizers the chance to have 50% of the sections with an alternative easier route. classes B ( twinshock)... C ( aircooled mono),,,, and over 40 ... to ride harder route, all others to ride 50/50 route. It was felt that at some rounds there were some riders taking part who are not up to the level required to contest a British Championship, at Expert level and these riders tended to ride together and numerous failures tended to cause a delay for other riders. IMHO the system is in theory something like this rider => club => centre trials sub committee => centre => ACU national council => FIM => T & E committee => UEM for a variety of practical and theoretical reasons this doesn't appear to function well in practise IMHO how can 8 people relay the view of us all when there are 21 (?) centres out there, when the scope is so wide; club to international, a plethora of championships and governing a second sport (ie a trials only centre votes on enduro issues when they don't run enduros) how do other nations do it? …

My sons birthday is 24/04/96 , to save you doing the math he will be 16 in April. Would he be able to ride as an adult when he turns 16 and would he just get his license changed from Youth A to an Adult? Or are you a youth till the year ends of the year you turn 17.

I now confirm that due to the recent change by the FIM of the date of the Japanese World round - the following dates have be changed. The new dates are: June 3rd Cumberland County MCC - Alan Trophy Trial - Novogar June 10th Lighweight MCC - Colin Appleyard - British Solo Trials Champ The T & E wish to particulary thank both clubs for being so flexible and resolving a very difficult sitaution and ensuring that riders were still able to compete in these events. I hear the Alan is going to have a bumper entry - so get your entries in early ( wish I were younger)

Entered a trial via the ACU portal. Now, at least a week later it says that my entry is not valid, due to my not having a rider number. Never been asked for this before. Spent ages on the website, trying to discover how to do this, but with no luck. Anyone know how to do this?

A big thank you to the ACU and both Pippa Laverty and Simon Welch for organising this. The first event was at Keypitts in Ilfracombe and my OH was very keen to go. It proved to be a very good weekend. Everyone was delighted that one of the trainers was Billy Green, who turned out to be a really nice bloke and a mega bonus for all the riders. It is also a great venue - I wish they would look at pay and play - I would love to ride there. If anyone is thinking of going to the other events I can tell you it is great and well worth the effort. There were a lot of youngsters at the Ilfracombe event and it was fantastic to see so much youth talent coming into our sport…
