Anyone out there know the SWM factory mechanics who wrenched on the Works bikes ? Might be interesting to pick thier brains about engine mods ,ect. Has anyone tried one of the flatslide carbs on a 320? Cheers ,Jim

Hi all, I would appreciate any ideas as my Jumbo is now generally running fine but when going down a hill or slope with the throttle closed it needs the clutch pulled and a bit of revs to clear it out before going on. You can use the decomp.-valve to clear it but a few revs are better. One thing I must add is that it has a rear silencer from the TL320 which has 2 smaller exit tubes (th Jumbo should have one bigger one). The silencer is not restricted though. The carb was jetted according to the works specs. without reed valves as from the engine number it should be a late bike.

Hi all, I have the following problem. I need 3 x new shocks for 2 x TL320´´s and a 350 Jumbo. I thought they were all 340 mm but Inmotion say they should be 360 mm ? On swm-moto.org data sheet it says 340 mm for all mod. I can remember Martin telling me 340 mm also. I then measured some of my old ones and found that a very early TL320 "Gunaco" I have (which has the old red shocks with the external resevoir on it) are 360 mm. On a 1981 TL320 (which has Marzochi units) they are 340 mm ???

Hi , i am halfway through re-packing the mid box and seperate silencer on my TL 320 . Have cut open the mid box and de-coked it ,re-packed it and am going to weld it up -ok. I have now cut open the back of the rear silencer (the side that usually rubs on tyre) to find that inside it only has baffle plates and no core or packing- Can anyone please tell me if this is correct and should it have cores/packing and has anyone re-packed theirs? Thanks

Hello everyone, well after 20 plus years, I finally did it...I just purchased a well sorted TL320. I have been wanting one of these for years. I'm sure I'm going to have a load of questions for you in the future. I have already reviewed all of the SWM posts and I'm getting quite the education. So, a humble thank you is in order for leaving such detailed information in this Forum. I just wanted to take a moment and introduce myself and wish you all the best, Carl...from the East Coast, USA.

My old friends riding veteran mx and enduro on international level are using the Spanish developed HFS parts for their front forks with very good results. If you look at their web (www.suspensionhfs.com/en) there are some trials kits, too. Has anyone tried them out?

In amongst the van full of bits I collected from Italy last weekend were a selection of "works" modified front pipes. The top picture shows a standard chrome finish front pipe with the modified ones either side. I had a quick attempt at fitting them on my bike, but both would need the fins removing from the head before fitting...which I might try at a later date. The third pipe fitted straight on my bike, and has a couple of extra bends before it hits the middle box, and looks similar to the production front pipe on the Jumbo 350's. It looks neater, but I cant say it runs any different.

My TL320 ran really well when I was riding at around 4000 feet above sea level recently. When I got it home to 7000 feet, I have no power at the low end, just off idle. I tried dropping my needle to lean out the mixture. I only had one notch available to drop the needle, and it didn't make much difference. I assume I will need to change the jet(s?) and wondered if there are any high-altitude riders out there who could suggest which jets I should buy to get me close to correct mixture at 7000 to 10,000 feet, which is where I expect to do the bulk of my riding. Also, can anyone suggest a source for jets? Martin, do you carry them? Thanks for all the help you guys have b…

  12. The TL 320 I recently purchased has no rear brake stay. The only thing that keeps the brake backing plate from rotating is the torque from the axle shaft nut. There don't appear to be any bolt holes indicating that a stay is missing, so I'm inclined to think that this is the way it was designed. Because every other bike I own has some sort of a stay to keep the backing plate stationary, the lack of such a stay on the SWM gives me concern. Is the torque on the axle shaft really the only way the backing plate stays in place? I also ask because I have some sort of drag on my rear wheel, and I wonder whether the extreme tightness of the axle shaft is causing the drag. Any t…

Hi All, I just bought a 1982 TL320, and would like to change the fluids. I searched the web, but wasn't able to find the info. So the question is, how much oil for the gearbox; and how much oil for the Betor forks? Thanks.

Any ideas on how to break my SWM 240s countershaft sprocket nut. Penetrating oil is doing nothing. I stuffed a block of wood between the rear wheel and swingarm, sat on the rear tire, applied heat with mapping gas to the nut, and had a breaker bar with a long pipe on top of it and the nut won't move. The chain is still attatched and another block of wood is behind the rear tire and it just spins the rear wheel. I can't see the nut being reverse threaded. I haven't heated the nut cherry red. I think it will hurt the countershaft itself. My impact gun isn't doing half of what the breaker bar is doing. Any ideas?

I have acquired a TL320 this summer. I know these things are quite noisy - and nearly bullet proof. Inspections of clutch (to try solving the clutch'problem') and inspections of barrel and head, indicates that the engine is very fine. Anyway - it has a lot of mechanical noises and there seems to be some play either at the top-end or the big-end of the rod. I haven't measured it and it is just recognisable. (A lot of the noise is transferred by the fins on the head I have noticed) Do anyone know where to find the specifications of service limits, wear outs etc. for the Rotax engine?

Hello fellow SWM riders, Long story here. In full disclosure this is an account of my distant memory and my fathers account as told to me recently. He has told me this in full frustration pent up for 30+ years. As this goes here is the story: In Western NY USA as a child I found myself excited to follow my father to each and every trials event. In this story I was about 6 years old. I was instructed on how to follow a "Loop" and that i was only allowed to be on the loop or in the pits if I were to come to the event. Mom was very burnt out with motorcycles at this point so it was only he and I. This was the golden year of 1982... Three weeks before this d…

  20. The reed induction 350 engine fitted to the SWM Jumbo and Armstrong 350 trials bikes was also used in some trail bikes I believe and possibly some motocross bikes as well. Does anyone know which other bikes used these engines? I think they were fitted in some Armstrong/CCM trail bikes but not sure which. I'm hoping to find a spare clutch cover but it doesn't have to have come from an SWM Jumbo engine, it can come from anything as long as it fits, I don't care if it doesn't say SWM on it. If I knew what other bikes these 350 engines were fitted to I could ring around some of the bike breakers and ask, but at the moment I don't know which bikes to ask about. Anyone got an…
