Aprilia

Hi , recently got into trials riding so purchased a Aprilia climber to start off on as it was cheap and in need of a bit of tarting up . I have stripped the forks down to find nothing about what oil to put back into them . They are Marzocchi 35mm stantions , they are on a 93 model too. Any help or info about this bike would be welcomed . Michael.

I converted my engine into 280cc and kept the same carburetor settings, the bike has plenty of torque but top speed is slower, do the jets on the 280s are different? anybody know the sizes of them? Thankyou

Ok, continuing from my previous post. Thanks to a top man on this very here TC, I've got myself a left side crankcase (Cheers Ross). My question is about setting the disc valve timing. Where does the valve sit in relation to TDC and which way round does it sit? Never been into a disc valve motor before. Cheers Graeme

Having issues bleeding rear caliper any one come across this before any hints I've bled all bikes in past never an issue but this thing will not take fluid to the caliper I've even tryd a pressure bleeder

Does anyone out there know what jetting there running in the Dellorto carb. I've got a 85 main and bike seems to load up and run rich over half throttle. Have gone thru carb, and have points and timing set correctly. Bike starts first kick runs great on bottom but loads up when you need to ring it out on a uphill section. Plug is dark. Just don't want to burn up the motor.

So further to my earlier post, I acquired a climber 280 cheap as it had been standing for a while and possibly messed about with, or stuck in a shed due to a fault. The clutch appeared seized, not a great surprise if its been sat around, so I stripped it and checked it over and all seemed good and free and clean. However, when I reassemble it, its locked solid. the clutch actuating arm moves and you can feel the springs against it, but you can't disengage it. after hours of fiddling about I tried assembling it with only 2 weak springs (cross flow rocker shaft spacing springs), and then it works ok but obviously not with the engine running. Ive got the chance of aTX311M but don't know a lot about them. I was after a air cooled mono for our clubs pre 90 route and was after a Fantic but the Aprilia has been offered me. Can I get parts for the Rotax motor ok and are there any known problems with them as this bike has a issue with the kickstarter. Thanks

I am having troble finding parts for my aprilia climber 280r i can only find the basics such as brake pads and spark plugs. Where can i find air filters etc for the bike??? At the moment i am in great need of a new airfilter?? I would be very greatfull for advice many thanks Henry

Hi I am new to this, Last time I rode a trails bike was 1972, I found a nice old Aprilia 311 in good shape. Just a few questions to start, What fuel mix should I run in the bike? Is there anyplace in the Us that has any parts? I started it on a 50 to 1 mix seemed to run ritch, but everything seemed fine. There is also a engine compression adjustment device on the front of the engine, I have never seen one? Thanks for the help, Mark

Hi all, I stripped down the forks of a 1993 Climber I am restoring to find a problem. As I have been unable to find any parts listing that shows the broken bit, I thought I should ask here. I have attached a photo for clarity. Also if anyone has any written (as in workshop info) relating to Foral forks, as fitted to Climbers until the last version in 1994, when Marzocchi's were used, I would be very grateful. Steve

I went riding on the aprilia and noticed the front tyre was flat. So i got the bike home and decided to put in a new innertube. Then i thought, while its hear i will get the exhaust off and pull that dint out........ So i ignored the front wheel for the moment and undid the first exhaust bolt, then my cheap allen key snapped off in the second exhaust stud so i couldnt get it out. A Bit miffed i decided to take the tank off and see if i could get better access to the offending allen screw. When i got the tank off i noticed 2 things. 1 - the tank was beginning to melt onto the exhaut (thats what the smell was!) and 2) there were some cracks in the frame, about 7 or 8 cracks…

hi all can anyone tell me what the ign timing should be on a 280 watercooled engine, in mm btdc please. i've just found that the ign coils on the inside of the rotor cover had come loose. hence it was backfiring and obviously wouldn't run . iv'e set the coils in the middle of the adjustment limits, and got it running, but would like to get it right before using it again.....many thanks

Hello all Looking for advice on the best plan of action to repair/ replace my kickstarter ring ( the part that clamps onto the splined shaft coming out of the transmission). I noticed it was cracked into 2 peices . I had previously noticed the kick starter hitting the skid plate at the bottom of the kick stroke so I ground away some of the plate. It doesn't really engage until it the kick lever is parallel to the ground. Is it possible to advance the shaft ( counter clockwise ) when remounting the repaired kickstarter so it engages sooner and stops before hitting the skid plate ? or is this normal and not really what caused the crack? how much gear oil is needed and what grade for a 92 climber 280? i have a funny grinding noise from the engine as if the kickstart is being engaged when running. starts and rides perfect so dont think its anything major. was in a bit of a sorry state when i got it. so possibly may just need an oil change. now running it at 50:1 as previous owner told me 70:1 so decided to play on the safe side. any help including a manual would be hugely appreciated. thanks in advance guys
