OSET Electric Trials Bikes

  1. Started by rynhardt,

Hi everyone. My first time posting in this forum, excluding the one in introductions. Recently got into trials after 20 years of road riding. Got an Oset 12.5 for my son (4), followed soon after by an Oset 20 for myself. Which the wife then appropriated Anyway, am having some difficulty adapting to the clutchless electric thing. Plus the 20 is very potent.. My reflexes feel too slow and my muscle memory too deep to adjust easily. I've had a few "whiskey throttle" incidents, especially when attempting standing wheelies. The motor is stronger than the back brake, so I have not been able to catch the bike once it starts getting away from me. So. I made a mod. I put a …

The Stratford-Upon-Avon Club will be running a Saturday afternoon trial specifically for Conducted riders with class D and the NEW CLASS E licences. The trial will take place at Saintbury Quarry near Broadway on Saturday 19th June starting at 2pm. There will be two routes on offer with trophies presented on the day to the best rider on each route. The emphasis on the event is to provide a FUN afternoon with sections suitable for the smallest young trials riders away from the distractions of a normal club trial. Similar aged riders, easy sections, no pressure equals FUN. The following day will be a normal Club trial, so any small wheel riders can make it a two day mee…

Hello Just got an Oset 20 for the kids. It has standard wheels and tyres. What pressures do you run at? Looks like no chance of running them at normal trials bike pressures. Thanks Dave

A (trials riding) friend has asked for any pros and cons of the Oset bike against the Mecatechno bike as he is looking to buy his 6-year old son one to replace his current PW50. Any information would be really helpful.

Has anyone had a Razor, and if so, what do you think? Compared to Oset.

My sons Oset recently lost all power, the problem was traced to the relay mounted under the rear fender, there was voltage across the two small spade terminal wires entering but nothing on the main switch wires and no audible "click" when switching on. Although this appeared well protected being shrink wrapped in plastic and housed in a velcro pouch, on removal it was found to be open to the elements where the wires entered the wrapping and I was surprised to see that the contacts for the switch were visible through a large opening in the relay body, I.e open to the elements themselves. Wd40 sprayed into the relay and it worked again. I have ordered a replacement incase …

I have an early Oset 16 for my boy and the throttle response is awfull when the batteries are fresh. He rode his first oset trial yesterday and all of the other kids bikes were smooth and progressive where his was just plain uncontrollable. I have been reading that the Kelly controller might be the best option but I have also been looking at other 36V E=bike controllers available at a fraction of the price. Any thoughts?

I have used the search facility (but as a techno phone ) without success.. Does anybody use a 24.0 R for adult trials ? Is it compliant with regs (minimum weight , tyre size etc) As a worn out old codger I was considering having a wobble around easy rout adult trials on something really light , and by the looks of them , well capable trailer .. Thanks in advance D.

with the bike dialed in to have a low top speed, i find the throttle impossibly sensitive for a 3 year old - for him it is basically a digital on and off switch - providing a near instant 0-5mph acceleration. great torque but intimidating for a 3 year old. I would have hoped that with 2007 electronic technology the throttle reponse would be smooth and linear over the length the throttle turn. Clearly, this isn't so easy to do. Anyone have ideas for a work around?

I am looking at chainging the colour of my daughters 16" Oset as she would like a more girly colour, I was wondering is anyone has tried spraying a trials bike mudguard? Is there a paint that is flexible enough to stay on without cracking? Pete

Looking for advice on what petrol generator will power the charger for my Freeride E. I know it's not a trials bike but there is so much knowledge on here regarding E bikes. So I want to take the bike to my local MX/Enduro bike park, they don't have electricity so I can't recharge between rides. I can easily get 60 mins+ continuous ride time when I am not gassing it MX style so my plan is ride for a hour, have lunch and recharge the bike, then ride for another hour, and repeat. The charger needs 13 A steady output to fast charge, and 10A steady for normal charging. I found this article that talks about charging the battery with a petrol generator on the KTM bl…

I have bought the KTM Freeride - E. I know it's not a trials bike but after seeing my son take his Lipo'd Oset 20 to places a petrol bike can't go I was sold on an e bike. Almost bought the EM5.7 but the lack of dealer support put me off, the KTM has a 3 year warranty on battery and charger and a 2 year warranty on the bike itself plus the backing of the biggest player in dirt bikes. Anyway, my van has a 12v power output and I was thinking I could run an inverter to recharge the bike whilst I have a break - full charge is just over an hour. Realise I am likely to have to run the engine as I do this. On fast charge I need a constant output of at least 13 A and on normal…

hello, I've read about Ian experimenting with nicer Kelly controls... and Li-xxx battery packs. I work at Caterpillar in powertrain engineering. I work in the same industrial park as firefly energy. http://www.fireflyenergy.com/index.php?opt...ge&Itemid=1 if you haven't heard about them, and I'm guessing you haven't... they make a structurally different (but chemically same) lead acid battery. they can be fully discharged (to zero) without damage... last 4x more cycles than anything, etc..... the problem is, they currently only sell "group 31" size batteries for on-highway trucks. anyway, getting them to offer a motorcycle sized battery is likely years of…

Hi, Here is my situation. Ive got a KTM exc 200 and a scorpa sy250 for myself and have until recently enjoyed the odd play in the woods on the scorpa. My start in trials was predominantly to make me a better enduro rider but i dont get enough time to do or be good at either so im fiarly basic levels of both. My son (7 yo) has a 50 cc quad bike that he is growing out of and doesnt have much interest in anymore. I had planned to get him a 50cc moto but then the local coucil put a big sign in the woods on ANY type of motorcycle will be conviscated. This is due to more scrotey kids on mx bikes im sure but i aint taking the risk. So im thinking, kill two birds with one stone…
