Well my 158. That I have owned for about 5 years and done nothing to it. Always been too busy. Proper chuffed kicks up on the 1st kick every time BUT now I have a petrol leek it’s an alloy tank but never looked very good on one side so off it came and stripped it. Wow what a mess someone has done just wondered can it be salvaged ? Nice to know what you guys think would really like to save it. Here’s a picture

Asking for a friend...for those who by necessity or design choose to install a mikuni carb on an earlier Alpina or Sherpa T what have you found to adapt the airbox side 1.75"o.d. carb flange to the 2" i.d. rubber airbox intake hose ?Thanks Alpthusiast?

Just fitted a in motion electronic ignition with lights. Got spark fuel but will not start do I need a condenser with this ignition ?

Just bought a electronic ignition for one of my bikes and a kill switch from in motion 2 wires on the kill switch black with white stripe. And black with yellow stripe. Should it be black yellow earthed to frame ? Greg

Hello there, I recently bought a Bultaco cross motorcycle 1970 Sherpa S model. It has three wires running out of the engine left cover and it goes directly to a red box which I assume is the starting coil because it goes to the spark plug cap. So here it goes, my question is if I can install a headlight and a back light without modifying anything inside the engine. I thank you in advance for any reply, Jaime.

Ok, I have m M-27 spokes all cleaned up and zinc plated...ordered some aftermarket 8G brass nipples off ebay..from Taiwan ...thinking 8G "4mm" metric nipples should all be about the same...they arrived, look great, don't fit..sure looks like same thread and will go if forced..but I think spoke may just be cutting new threads in brass nipple..I read somewhere, on a Husky forum, that some older spoke threads are rolled, not cut, which makes them an odd size..anyone know what thread size/pitch is on these early spokes/nipples?...and where to find them? thanks!

I think it's sherpa pre 70 but not 100% any ideas? 140mm dia at brake drum I am looking for a brake plate if anybody has one Thanks

Got my model 158 started today first time in a number of years. i was putting a kill switch on and putting the earth wire to the frame there are 3 colours on the frame but the bottom colour was dark blue. I think that was original. as it was a bugger to get to shiny metal. The bike was 1st registered in 1976. Would be nice if someone new the answer. Greg. R

Hi Chaps I am looking for info on my M49 which I purchased in 2016. What I know so far is it was first registered by Sid Moran LTD (Windsor comp shop badge still attached to rear mudguard) on 16th October 1969.Reg No MPP8H frame No B4900477 engine No a few digits earlier. It was then sold to Robert John Swift on 29 October 1969 who appears to be the only owner until I purchased it. Not sure why frame is yellow but removed some of the paint and it doesn’t appear to of ever been silver. Am not going to restore it but use it as is as it just looks so good with all its battle scars. Am looking for any information on the bike or The Rider Robert Swift. Regards all David

Hi All Hoping to benefit from your collective experience. Getting on OK restoring my Sherpa 198A and am currently working on the wheels/brakes. Front wheel all sorted and rebuilt. On the back wheel though the steel brake liner pressed into the hub has a highly polished, almost mirror like finish. I thought this should be roughened up a bit with some wet and dry before reassembly. Problem is the surface is beyond glass hard and wet and dry doesn't seem to touch it. I've never personally come across this before. Any ideas on how to get under this hard glazed surface, or should I just leave it as is? The bike was a non runner when aquired so never ridden so no…

I want to clean out my Sherpa exhaust by the caustic soda method but reading up on it is a bit confusing... use of a rubber/potato bung, etc etc... If anyone has got any experience of doing it this way could give a step by step guide that would be great. Cheers Tony ?

Hi all I know its a longshot but does anybody have the side panel/airbox cover assembly for model 49 they no longer require and wish to sell, battered doesnt matter as i can repair or make up in fibreglass if reqd. In motion sell them but out of stock at the moment. There is one on ebay with a fuel tank but at £185. Thanks derek

Hi All - A friend fabricated a wrench to help disassemble my OEM m80 Betors for rebuilding and is having a heck of a time removing the threaded body cap to access the internal seal, shaft assembly and components. I can't imagine Betor would choose a left-handed thread for this, would they? I didn't see any evidence the caps are peened or spot welded in any way. Any ideas? Christian

Hi All, While doing a little cleanup around the house over the weekend, I decided it was finally time to address a pile of old tires that had been collecting out behind the garage. They were mostly unusable motocross tires pulled from earlier restorations but, while loading them into the truck for disposal, I took a pause before throwing in the old trials tires that came mounted to my recent m49 and m80 purchases. The m49 had an ancient Pirelli MT 08 Trials up front and a Dunlop Trials Universal in the rear - both tires severely cracked. The m80 came with Dunlop Universals both front and rear and are in slightly better shape. I decided to hold on to the better of…

Could someone verify shock length for m-27? .. I have some 340mm on order.. Because I saw somewhere that that was correct...after digging out and measuring what I thought were original Betors I'm having doubts...they are 325mm thanks!

Hi Guys and girls I have just acquired a model 92 350 Sherpa for restoration/rebuild. bike seems to be mostly original but requires some refurbishment, Any pointers to UK suppliers and tips on what to look out for would be great fully.

In my model 49 parts book beside the front wheel spokes it has written in pen, probably by my dad: "use 86-04-003/5" I think this might be because the rim he was using had a different ERD (effective rim diameter) to the standard one. Does anybody happen to know (or can look up) the spec for these part numbers. It should be spokes, and presumably there are two different angles for the inside and outside spokes. Thanks!
