Hi Chaps Another new owner question... Can anyone enlighten me, what is the problem with the plastic tanks and ethanol?? I'm pretty sure my 78 model 199 has a plastic thank that's been painted by the PO, I attach a pic FYI (can anyone confirm, is it plastic of fiberglass?). Not sure when it was painted, I was told it had not been used for the last 10 years, so I don't think the paint is recent. I have heard about the ethanol issue with paint and decals falling off due to the fumes migrating out. The reason for my question is I noticed a small blister on the tank yesterday had appeared... I did have 10% ethanol gas in there for about a week, but no longer, I can …

I have a blue 199 Sherpa with frame number JB 19902239. It has tubes under the engine and no gusset on the swing arm. It has blue frame, tank and mudguards etc. Can someone confirm whether or not Bultaco released blue frame 199 Sherpas.

Hi all, Does anyone know if you can use the 30mm bearing instead of the 20mm one with the 2 alloy spacers? I was supplied 30mm one with a new Mahle piston and wanted to check it was OK to use before I fit it. Thanks. Mark G

Hi, just talking to a friend on the phone and he has a 198 red plastic tank that is leaking around the fuel tap area. I know these are different to the later A and B models which have the two 6mm screws, but we are not sure what the actual tap screws onto, plastic or a metal insert? and he is reluctant to try to over tighten it without knowing what he is dealing with. Thanks Greg

I finally had the 199a out for a ride around the "backyard" section so I thought I would post a few pics.I noticed a few things on it,s first ride.It likes to kick back when trying to start and when trying to skim the front wheel over a log it wanted to deflect off course more than my TY.I think that it could use some new springs because it sags quite a bit on it,s own weight or maybe a better pilot!

Is this the correct way to mount the rubber intake boot to the airbox on a 199a? If so,does the flat side of the mounting plate face down,up or to one side? I want it the correct way before I start drilling holes in a new airbox.

Hi all, I,m new to the site and this is my first post.I just picked up a 199A.The air box isn,t stock or really any good.I have re-engineered an old style model 92 ai box to fit. It,s pretty small compared to a stock one and I,m wondering if it will affect performance or jetting? I will probably by a new one when I can afford it as all my mad money went into getting the bike. Thanks in advance and man, what a great site!

Hi. Just got a 199A and the throttle seems very heavy and the carb spring quite strong, stronger than I remember. Does anyone know what the free length of the spring should be, the number of turns and the wire diameter. The old twist grip is knackered. Anyone recommend a fast or slow domino right angle twistgrip and suitable cable. Thanks Tony
