  1. Started by chaser,

I have the 2011 280i and it appears to only run one bearing on the disc side, which I have replaced. I see there is a conversion kit to upgrade to a 2 bearing type but can`t find anyone that has it in stock. Anyone know where I can obtain this kit at a reasonable cost with shipping to the UK ?

  2. Started by chaser,

Did a trial last week and while I was checking a section I left the bike ticking over. As I set off into the section the bike just bogged and cut out. I couldn`t restart the bike so I took the plug out to find it was very sooted up. This has happened before when bike was left ticking over to warm up. Even after cleaning the plug the bike is reluctant to start and needs a new plug. Is there anything I can do to reset mixture ? as it seems to run too rich.

Just wondering does the Ossa need a fast tick over like the 4rt? I quite fancy one but I like my bikes set to just tick over. Ian

Hi I have water in my gear oil. I have the water pump out. I think the bike is 2013. There is a circlip behind the drive gear which was tricky to remove. It was suggested that I change the pump seal, although the problem could be somewhere else. How do I remove the impeller? Does anyone know the seal part number? Is the seal a common part? Thanks in advance. Andy Chalkley

Well, I now have four OSSAs in the garage. (One is a restoration project). we did some trading and I now have the 2014 Factory 300 that has been talked about a bit. I didn't have much trouble starting it, but I'm going to do my 'super easy start' mod anyway. I'll check the mixture and all that stuff too. Certainly more power than my Explorer, but it is heavier also. I'm not exactly sure how I'll set it up- some sort of 'long range' seat/tank likely the Betas have I think. I'd like to try one of those and see if they fit. Mark

Is there anything inherently bad with the 350 engine compared to a 250? I thought that I remembered reading that they were prone to running hot and if so is it a real problem?

I just acquired a 72 MAR that seems in pretty good shape. It does smoke a bit and drip some oil so I understand that I need to do the crank seals and gaskets. What special tools do I need to do this? Also any tips would be greatly appriciated. When it is all tight, what is best to run in the gear box? I have some Redline MTL. It was missing the decompressor but I found one NOS. Does the decompressor go in the hole at an angle to the ground? Thanks for any help on this. Jim in Folsom, CA

I am possibly looking at purchasing a 72 MAR from a fellow. The only issue is one of the cross over tubes is loose and leaks fuel. Does anyone know if that is a major issue and a common problem on these? I am not sure if the tube is just loose in the tank or the tank itself has been damaged but if it is just loose it seems like it would be a fairly easy fix. Anyone out there have any experience with this and what steps to take to fix it? Also what other things other than the obvious cables chain sprockets etc are good to check on these bikes. I have limited experience with Ossas but have always liked them. Thanks for any info Sam

The previous owners did a good job of wiping out the exhaust threads on the side of the cylinder. One previous owner had rigged the exhaust ring to be held on with four small springs that also attach to the cylinder fins. The ring is held in place but since there isn't much left of the threads, it does leak some exhaust gas. How bad is this for running since most of what I will be doing is slow speed? Are there any short term fixes and what is the best long term fix? Thanks for any help on this. Jim

Would anyone have bearing numbers for all the needle bearings in the gearbox. I would like to replace everything while I have it apart. Would anyone have recommendations on where to order the bearings from. Thanks in advance.

Can any body tell me if the 76 OSSA MAR was available with a black frame? I am starting the restoration on one and it is painted black. All the pictures I have seen seem to show a silver frame. Either way can you advise the paint type/ colour? I'm also after speedo and lights.

So I assume by now that most people who are experiencing starting issues either have the original LSS type starter pack installed, or have the 9v battery version which is smaller, simpler, and avoids potential flooding by only charging the electrics and not the fuel pump. Just as a matter of interest, if you were to use a rechargeable 9v battery on the 9v system, and say, kept the circuit open when travelling between sections, would the system recharge the battery or would the combo capacitor and 9v battery in the sytem have a negative effect. I know changing a standard 9v battery on this system is no big deal, my questions is more just a matter of interest as to whethe…

Right now to shift into first with the clutch lever pulled, it sort of snaps into gear. Here are my questions: I read where it says that I should have 1/16 inch of play at the clutch lever on the case. I have 1/8 inch. Should I adjust this down to 1/16 inch? If so, how do I keep the clutch from turning while I loosen the clutch adjusting nut. Also, how much play should I have at the clutch lever? If I have the correct play at the lever on the case, is this the play that I should have at the hand lever? Also, my idle might be a little high. So, is my current 1/8 inch OK and I just need to get the idle down? Thanks for any help on this.

  16. Hello, New to trials, not new to bikes. I very recently bought a 2011 280i from a mate, he has not used the bike for some time and may even have lost interest in the bike given it was so much hard work to start. It had the 9volt battery mod but I found that the handlebar push button to engage the battery was not functioning. So the bike took a million kicks to start by which time you needed a lie down to recover..... I replaced the switch which improved things but around 10 kicks to light the fire was not uncommon. I checked spark and it was fat and healthy, I had drained and replaced the pre-mix and I had tidied up the horrendous job that had been done during t…

Not to stir the pot about new bikes and the rules regarding bikes in competition , What are we going to do if the new Ossa (release nov. 10 ... I think ?) http://www.ossafactory.es/v3/index.php#home Is a twinshock ,Watercooled ,manual disc brake machine ... Or if it is just a new twinshock ? Does it get to compete against the old twinshocks like mine , or does it go up against the modern bikes ? Only clue I see about the bike is TR280 injected ....... And is this the same folks that closed the Ossa factory doors in what 1985 ? Glenn

  18. I first will say I appreciate the experience and knowledge here. I grew up riding when these machines were being made, but never considered them as I was a kid growing up racing MX when the Japanese bikes arrived and became dominant. Fast forward to 2016, I wanted a trials bike. Many reasons why. My good friend and riding buddy purchased a 72 MAR about a year ago that was supposedly very nice. He learned it was good but lacking in the fine details and he does not have or own junk. A few weeks ago, knowing he needed some original parts, I noticed another MAR on a Facebook group that was for sale reasonably inexpensive. He acquired it. So he had plans to build a …

My 2013 TR280i has started to smoke recently, any idea what might be the cause? Doesn't run so well as well and it doesn't seem to be the fuel mixture issue, I've tried with a different fresh fuel/oil mixture and still the same. I figure it's maybe a gearbox oil leaking slowly into crankcase room, but where that leak might occur, a bad crakshaft seal in one side? Any ideas?

  20. Well, my wife had a dash on me TRi yesterday and boom, it suddenly locked up. Thankfully while working on low RPMs. Turned out one of the 5 gearbox fixing bolts vibrated loose and did this: The little fecker who's fault it all was is in the front in two bits. "Thankfully" it only damaged the crownwheel, if there were high-RPMs the damage could have been way more catastrophic or even engine career-ending: OSSA doesn't sell it separately, hence you should buy a complete new gearbox. Thankfully Joa has found me a s/h one that they can hopefully replace the clutch basket crownwheel with. Be sure to locktite those gearbox fixing bolts! Do not over…
