Trials Gear

Man it's cold up in them hills..... My regular riding gloves are nice and thin for a good feel on clutch break and throttle, but...... They're c c c cold!!! Can anyone recommend something a little thicker or better suited to this weather...... But not to thick so's I can't feel things? My right hands got a few hinges instead of knuckles after a decent road bike crash so I feel the cold like bloody tooth ache in me bones.....

I have wanted a boot dryer for ages. There are dozens of different sorts online but the only ones that possibly appealed to me were very expensive, and I still couldn't be sure they would be right when they arrived. So finally I made my own, which saved some money, exactly fits my requirements and it was satisfying to make something rather than just flashing my card. The hair dryer was under £10 from Argos and I'm running it on low setting. The rest is 40mm waste pipe. Any advise on good gear to protect the shoulders, arms, chest and back? I have been using a Motocross chest protector, which is very restrictive, hot and clunky to move around in. Would prefer some downhill mountain bike gear but don't want the full suit gear. G-Form has some cool technology for their pads, which when hit, stiffen up to protect you, then go back to a more plyable state after...all on a mositer wicking shirt. Anybody thry these for Trials? Dougies foot injury in the Scott and a similar injury to another rider I know got me thinking. More years ago than I care to admit I hit a boulder hidden in bracken on the Scott. Really hurt my foot, bent the gearlever and footrest. Although my foot went numb I was able to finish, no bones broken and no nails ripped off. I was wearing two pairs of thick socks and old fashioned boots which were much thicker (black) leather than the modern ones. Had I been wearing modern boots which have very thin leather i am sure my foot would have been much worse. Why are not thick leather boots available, preferably with plastic or steel protection for the front of the foot. If it …

Hoping someone can help me with a boot sizing question: I tried on some gaerne classic and oiled boots today. The 44's were great for width but my toes were touching the end, the 45's were way too big. I have very narrow & flat feet. Alpinestars always used to fit me quite well for enduro/mx boots so thought they may be ok but the dealer has none in stock. Are the gaerne's likely to give a little once they are bedded in? How are alpinestars for sizing, are they true to size (i've read the uk10 is a 44.5 so would be spot on and give me that little extra room. Thanks Hugh

Hi, After finally settling on buying some Gaerne Lorica trials boots online I would be interested to know what experience others have. Should I go for a size larger than normal to account for thicker socks. Obviously I won't be able to try them as there aren't any stockists local to me. I ride an old twinshock. Thanks for looking. Anyone know what forma boots like at breaking in and stretching? Bought a 43 & 44 in the boulders and don’t know if I need to break one pair or wear thicker socks for the other… one’s a bit big and the other a bit tight round the instep, my feet appear to be half a size in between. 😐

Opinions please !! New to trials and need a pair of boots, probably sooner rather than later, but like all things, depends on how deep your pockets are...

I'm going to take the plunge into the world of trial riding soon and whilst I have plenty of off road gear I have nothing specific for trials. I've searched on here and also been googling but so far drawn a blank. I know I could go mail order but the main things I'm after are boots and helmet and I really would like to try them on before buying. I just bought some Hebo Eco's off fleebay as they were a bargain and my first boots. Now they've turned up and i can't get my calves in them! Well i can, JUST about, but not with pants/socks on! I'm not overweight but with cycling/training i've got a decent set of calves on ma, although nothing abnormal, but could anyone recommend boots with room for the larger calf! I'll also be wearing MX pants so i want space. I am looking around and have read maybe Diadora could fit the bill a little better?? Bongo

Long time no posts… I finally got round to buying a new lid, can’t find the old post I started but just wanted to share that I bought an Airoh TTR-S (convert red, white & blue 🇬🇧) and it is indeed very well vented. My first Airoh, tidy lid. Stacks up ok along side the Arai and 6D lids in the fleet. Cheers for the pointers.

Hello, I've swapped sides and binned the enduro bike for a gasser... Hurrah!! I hear you shout. The problem is I've now got a trials bike and a stack of enduro riding gear. I can make do with the boots for the mo' (though I have been advised that trials boots are like slippers in comparison) my query is helmets. I have been told (by our enduro sec) that Trials can be ridden with a "safety helmet" which isn't necessarly an ACU stamped lid. I have a MX lid, which is pants for looking down, I also have a Bell safety helmet which is basically an open faced lid with minimal padding... it'd normally be used for downhill mountian biking type stuff, I got it for roller blading…

Im looking to upgrade boots in the near future and was wondering about Sidi's trial boots. Anyone have any experience with them? Pros/cons? Cheers.

Would a "half" helmet be accepted at a trials competition. The kind that just cover the top of your head. I use one for practice and really like it. It is DOT approved. I'll be riding in the lowest skilled sportsman class.

I recently tried a Hebo lid, sized XL and was surprised to find it a reasonable fit. I usually wear medium, 58, in road lids. Is this the norm for trials lids?

I have a NZI fibreglass? helmet and was wondering, just with normal usage, roughly how long can I expect it to last before it needs changing ? I remember reading somewhere that road bike helmets need changing quite regular, because a helmet is like an egg shell and tiny cracks appear with usage, which cause the helmet to possibly break with an impact ! So if anybody has any ideas ? Phil

OK...my red, white and blue "Captain America" Alpinestars from the 80's finally gave up, and my spares are too clapped out to wear. I crashed, ripped off a sole and broke a toe. I've always got used boots before...this is my very first pair of NEW trials boots. The Novogars look good for the money...as in, they're the cheapest. Got the "carbon" look...very cool. My feet are 8.5 EE or EEE, almost as wide as long with very high instep and arches. I got the 43 (about 9.5) and they're a tad snug in the width, but I walked around in them for awhile and they now feel super comfortable. I had to let the lowest strap WAY out so I could buckle it. The soles are WAY stiffer…

Hi all just writing to say after my trials accident few weeks ago, collapsed lung and broken ribs, been looking for some protection after seeing on Internet miss bristow has this to, its a company called forcefield body armour and its the pro shirt Mega for trials has back protector, elbow, shoulder and chest protector nothing like what you would think (motorcross) its a jacket you put on made of material that keeps you cool all protection can be taken out and trials top on top you can move fully easily not bulky at all max movement and flexibility washable to protection in prone areas , after my accident has made me think how easy things can happen I know in trials ten…

Is there any shops in Manchester that sell trials gear?
