Just started sorting the 'new to me' 1978 247C. Current gearing is 10/43 and feels a tad high. Whats the recommend gearing gentleman? Did fork oil earlier 190ml of ATF and now have some forks that actually move....not sure what was in them before, it was clean but must of been a lot heavier weight than the ATF. Brakes are in good fettle no wear on cams and back plates.

Can anybody please explain how the chain plastic/rubber tubes fit at the front end. I can see how they fit over the rear wheel sprocket using the alloy T bracket, but at the front the top run just rests on the swinging arm, and the lower run just rests on the frame. Is there supposed to be some bracket ? I have not fitted the chain yet, but even with that fitted, it looks like they will just rest on the chain. Any clues?

Re-assembled the clutch with new plates and fitted the cover, but the arm seems to be too far 'in' and will foul the gearbox filler plug. It seems that the arm should be further out? I marked the position of the foot on the bottom of the shaft and replaced it in the same position and clipped the circlip in place. Can anybody take a photograph of the arm on their machine and post up on here please.

Hi all, Frustration with my 248. Just rebuilt with new piston, rings and rewound ignition. ran ok at first, but after around 10 mins,it just cut out. Plug saturated. Now, with clean plug, it starts first or second kick, runs for a couple of secs, then stops. Plug saturated with fuel. The carb is an Amal concentric mk.2. The float is good. Float needle fine, and fuel shuts off about 3mm below top of float bowl. Am I missing something? If I put a mikuni on, what size and jetting. Any thoughts welcome.

Can anybody post up pictures of how the rubber front sprocket cover fits please. I have the cover, below but the fittings to attach it are missing. I can see from the instruction manual that there are some fittings, but the pictures are too small to see clearly. Does it push onto some studs? If you could include some pictures of the cover removed in order that I can see the fittings that would also be very useful. Thanks

In my search for another twinshock project I've been offered an early 80's 248, it's a non runner but basically all there, any opinions on what to look out for on this model? strong vs weak points etc..? And I know it's subjective, but how do the early 80's Cota's measure up as a twinshock? Thanks.

Hi guys, Have just started trials after a long gap, on a fairly tidy 248. Can anyone give me any recommendation for final drive sprockets. I'm thinking mine may be a little tall in first. Cheers

Hi Guys, I've only owned my bike for a few months, so not overly familiar with it. Its a 2014 260 4rt which started running rough when I give it full throttle, at lower revs it seems ok. I stopped the engine and did the reset, full throttle and 3 kicks, then i started it up and it ran fine for a bit then went back to running rough again.... anybody experienced this with their bike..? I'm kinda confused as to why it went ok after the reset for about 5 mins then started playing up again... Thanks for any advice. Rab.

If i give little fuel straigth to throttle body engine start but running only few seconds. Then after 15-25 minutes waiting engine start and running like new. I already adjust idle speed to around 1850rpm, also i check throttle cable freeplay, then i reset ecu many times but nothing help:( Would someone help what I need to do next?

Has anyone tried a 260 head pipe on a 300. It looks a good bit smaller and I wonder if it would soften the response. I would like my 300 4RT to run more like a Beta 300.

“You made that look easy!” observer section 5 & “the Cota is a better bike than a Repsol” – that from the mouth of a trials legend! Add those two comments together and I think it is fair to say that my first trial/shake down of my new 2014 Montesa Cota 260 could not have gone better had I scripted it myself. It started badly though. I only had it out for a brief one and a half hour practice the week before and you could never say that we understood each other yet. Yes we enjoyed each others company but it was after all our first date. After that life got in the way. We had not really seen each other until round 4 of the Autowbars series at Lady Lane, Bingley, a…

Just bought 2021 4RT 260 which is somehow messy and I start servicing it and got shocked 🤣 Im used to simple 2 stroke, and I couldn't believe all the hoses and wires running under the tank! what a mess! On the wiring side, I want to leave the bare minimum. I dont need lights and horn. I just want kiill switch and what ever the engine need (ECU, Fuel pump, fan). Any advice here? On the hoses side, that double fuel tank vent left me confused. What the lower one is good for? Can I remove/block it or it will have some unwanted effects doing so? The head vent goes into big catch tank. Is it ok to remove it and just route the hose into the ground? …

Does anyone know where I can buy the seat that comes with the 260? I heard that it fits the 300RR and want to use it to access trails by riding on the street and I'm thinking the seat will help keep me from getting stopped, along with the fake lights I will put on.
