Hello All carb/tuning experts!! I've got a Kevlar Airbox cover (Mitani) for my 315 and as its a lot loss restrictive (In theory anyway I'm guessing..) the bike will be getting more air so will be running leans thus the mixture will need richening?? If my presumption is correct how do I go about doing this?? the bike seems to run ok at the moment. Mixture/carbs/jetting has always been a bit of dark art to me, the bikes an 04 BTW Thanks in advance B

I need to replace the kickstarter (alloy lever section) on my 315R, but am having difficulty finding anything that's readily available - save the usual second-hand stuff. Does anyone know of an interchangeable/compatible kickstarter?

My 315R will not turn off if the engine is revving at high rpm with the kill switch. It works OK at lower rpms. Any ideas? Thanks.

My 1998 315R seems to be knocking on top end revs, is this a common problem?

  6. Started by oldnslo,

Good fuel is very hard to come by in my area. Any easy way to reduce knocking? The only ones I can think of is adding base gaskets or retarding timing. Thanks.

Maybe one for Sanifords, or even a general one.... I bought a 315 Montesa2003 at easter and brought it back here to ride. I quickly glanced at the logbook and thought no more about it as the last 6 digits on frame and logbook matched. (I also got all the old mots etc) When trying to register it here I find the frame and logbook VIN numbers are slightly different. The frame says VTDMT03AO3E and then the last six numbers, which match anyway. the logbook says WTOMTO3AO36 and then the numbers which match the problem is they wont issue me a new logbook here and let me reigister it because of the differences Question to 2003 owners: How does the VIN on your bike and log…

  10. I have a 2002 315R that shows an intermittent problem: Every so often the engine note becomes a lot more 'poppy' i.e. more pronounced pop, pop, pop... than usual (it does sound like a lawn mower) and the power drops to about half of normal. Usually just cutting it out and then restarting it makes it go away fro a while - but that's not much use when you're in the middle of a climb on a section as happened yesterday. I've had the carb apart (a Keihin PWK 28 copy (Koso) put on by the previous owner) and have cleaned the jets out but it made no difference. Has anyone experienced this or have a clue as to where I might look for a solution? Many thanks

Hi all Could you give me your comments on the following please I have just bought a 2003 315R and when it is started i leave it to get warm before riding it whilst i am putting my boots on etc If i blip the throttle when hot it makes a weird noise like a knock and i have been told it is Pre Ignition and the Montesa do suffer from this, they do run better on Optimax feul rather than standard petrol. Is this normal with this bike? I have had loads of Karts,Crossers etc all two stroke and never heard this noise on any of them Its ok when you put it in gear and ride it. Thanks

Hi all, I'm returning to trials after a very long absence and looking to get a decent clubman bike. I am increasingly interested in getting a Mont 315R as they seem to offer a good compromise between purchase cost/reliability/rideability. Several people have told me to try to get a 2000-2004 model due to the uprated forks and brakes. But, for an average rider, is there a great deal of difference in the ride between the -1999 and 2000-2004 models? Is it worth the extra expense to hold out for a decent later model? Were there engine mods on the later ones too? Cheers

Guys, picked myself up a shiny 2004 315R at the weekend, and really don't fancy scratching it to bits with my boots. I'm wanting to get a clutch cover and a flywheel cover and perhaps some frame protectors too. Can anyone point me in the direction of someone that sells, protective covers / guards for the 315? Thanks - Matt.
