Hi all. I had a strange thing happen to my 4 ride (67reg) yesterday. I was just checking it over pre mot & It started 2nd kick like normal so I tested the horn & it cut out & won’t start now ! That’s never happened in the 3 yrs I’ve had it . Thinking it could be the kill switch so I disconnected it but still the same. I checked it for continuity which also seems fine. I can’t work out why the use of the horn has killed it unless there’s a short somewhere perhaps. I have ordered a new plug but don’t think it’s that. Any of you guys & girls out there got any ideas cos I’m baffled, with thanks ,Andy

Hi, I have recently purchased an 81 349 and would like to know if anyone has experience with updating the swingarm to the later 84 349 MK/4 modifications with the shock mounts moved forward and swingarm angled. Also, with lowering the footrests. I have seen photos of 81 349s with these mods done and if anyone could give any dimensions or advice it would be appreciated. I always wanted to have an 81 and always planned to do the swingarm to those factory machine specs. Also, does anyone know if the later MK/4 swingarm would retrofit? I never heard whether or not the width at the pivot is the same for both.

Hive mind can you help me please. 247 with Electrex ignition and properly jetted OKO carb. Starts and runs fine but when riding it if you open the throttle there's not much snappiness about it and it seems a bit sluggish. Could this be it needing new piston and rings (hope not, too pricey), it doesn't smoke much or maybe a case of the exhaust needing a good decoke and air filter cleaned/replaced? Thanks in advance

MfG Benjamin Gems

Hi Guys. I noticed the other day that my front brake is binding on my 4 ride & been getting hot which is not good. I assume the Caliper pistons need a clean & are perhaps corroded. There’s plenty of life in the pads . Mileage is nearly 1400 Is this an easy job as I’ve not tackled this job before. Any advice would be great, thanks in advance , Andy

I have some damage to my engine casing as pictured, that could do with repair. I know the outer covers are magnesium, but not sure about the engine casings themselves?

Had a nagging oil leak since I got the bike a couple of months ago. In fact, quite a few slow (and not so slow) leaks so changed all seals in clutch case - gear, clutch arm etc. New cover gasket, too. Looked to also be leaking from a couple of the cover screws/bolts so added a few o-rings on these. Finally, found that one of the screws at the bottom of the case is all the way through the case and protruding just in front of the gear box drain plug underneath the engine. I'm guessing that the original cover screw was a shorter one and a previous owner has mistakenly inserted a longer one and pushed all the way through. Unless, of course, the original screw should have gone…

Hello, when starting the kickstarter always blocked on the footrest. Please your advice. Should I change the footpegs or the fork? I have the short lever and that works fine form me. Who has a long fork and who has a short one? Regards, Luc

Evening all. Went out for a play on the Montesa yesterday and one of the rear shocks cried enough. My dad got these with it in 1986. Presumably swapped to the ones on it because the valve parted company on one and the oil escaped. I haven't seen shocks like these before. Are the valves just for oil, or do you pressurise with air as well?

I've just put new shoes on my front wheel and had planned to swap the bearings too. However, removing the old ones seems a little tricky as there appears to be a full width sleeve fitted between the existing bearings and the wheel spindle. Am I right in what I see? And, if so, are there any easy ways for removal other than drifting the sleeve all the way through using gentle application of a lump hammer? Apologies if t.his has been asked before but I've done a search and nothing comes up TIA

Hoping someone can help diagnose a no spark Cota 248. I have tried 4 old stators plus one brand new one, 2 flywheels, 3 coils, various new points, new condenser, new woodruff key on flywheel, new plug caps, direct earth of coil to the engine, various contact gap settings Absolutely refuses to spark although I can feel a weak shock from the HT lead if I hold the plug business end. Current setup is brand new stator and wiring, new points, new condenser, new plug, all gapped correctly but absolutely nothing. Only things left to replace are the coil (just ordered a new replacement from InMotion) and the flywheel. Has anyone ever heard of a flywheel losing its mag…

Hellow, does a titanium front pipe provide better cooling of the engine? I've read that the radiator would then turn on less. Greathings, Luc

I'm thinking about getting a spare wheelset. I see jitsie are currently doing them. My current bike is a 2020 4rt 260 with the tech forks. Obviously a set of wheels is a major investment. What I want to know is will these wheels fit newer 4rt 260's and 301rr if I decide to change or upgrade my bike. Most of these have showa forks. Will I simply be able to fit the original spacers from any possible new montesa into the new jitsie wheels? I wouldn't bother investing in the wheels if they are not transferable.
